The excavation revealed five dynasties and eleven layers of road surfaces since the Southern Han Dynasty and the foundation site of the Song Dynasty Gongbei Tower. Today, the thousand-year-old ancient road site, silently lying under the tempered glass cover, has become the "treasure of the street." This reminds me of the ancient road site on the Southern Song Imperial Street in Hangzhou, which has a similar charm. Beijing Road Pedestrian Street is neither short nor narrow, but it is always bustling with people and maintains its vigorous vitality. There are four copper pots arranged in a stepped manner on the street, with water dripping down sequentially between each pot (see Figure 1). This is the Yuan Dynasty timekeeping tool, the copper pot drip. The original is now treasured in the National Museum of China. In 2009, a replica of the copper pot drip landscape was made at the original site on Beijing Road. In 2017, the double-door shape of the Gongbei Tower and timekeeping elements such as the copper pot drip and the twelve zodiac signs were extracted and redesigned. There is also a large ancient Buddha temple on the street, with very prosperous incense. Unlike general temples, the worshippers here are mainly young people. It is about 10-15 minutes walk from the Gongyuanqian metro station and right across the entrance is the XinDaXin (新大新) mall with the Vienna Hotel above it. Great place to eat from street food but nowadays it is not as crowded as it used to be. Half if the shop i knew before lockdown were not there anymore.
