Baofeng Ancient Town: A Gentle Encounter with Time
In this fast-paced era, I always dream of a spontaneous trip to a place full of history, where my soul can find a moment of peace and reflection. So, I chose Yunlong Baofeng Ancient Town, a hidden gem, a place that makes you never want to leave.
My first impression of Baofeng was its tranquility and simplicity. There were no noisy tourists, no commercial atmosphere, only bluestone roads, ancient bridges, flowing water, and mottled walls, telling the vicissitudes of time. I walked through the alleys of the ancient town, as if I had traveled through time and returned to that quiet and distant era.
In the depths of the ancient town, I met an old lady sitting in front of her house, holding a needle and thread, sewing traditional cloth shoes. Her face was full of the marks of time, but her eyes were exceptionally clear. I stopped and watched her needle and thread dance on the fabric, as if weaving ancient stories. The old lady saw my interest in her cloth shoes and warmly invited me to try them on. Wearing those cloth shoes, I felt an unprecedented comfort and warmth, as if every step I took was on the veins of history.
In the afternoon, the sunlight shone through the clouds on every corner of the ancient town, giving the old buildings a golden coat. I walked into a teahouse, sat by the window, sipped local green tea, and looked at the scenery outside, feeling peaceful and satisfied. The elderly in the teahouse were either playing chess or chatting, their faces full of love and satisfaction for life. At that moment, I seemed to have integrated into the life of this ancient town, becoming one of them.
In the evening, I climbed a small hill in the ancient town, overlooking the entire Baofeng Ancient Town. The afterglow of the sunset shone on the roofs of the ancient town, giving it a golden glow. The distant mountains layered upon each other, forming a beautiful picture with the ancient town. At that moment, I seemed to be in a classical ink painting, feeling the tranquility and harmony of nature.
As night fell, the lights of the ancient town gradually lit up, adding a touch of mystery and romance. I walked in the dimly lit alleys, listening to the distant barking of dogs and the occasional laughter of children, feeling touched and warm. At that moment, I fell deeply in love with this ancient town, with its tranquility and beauty.

Baofeng Ancient Town in Dali | With a long history, outstanding people and a tranquil and comfortable environment
Baofeng Ancient Town is located in Yunlong County, Dali, Yunnan. During the Qing Dynasty, it was the administrative center of Yunlong Prefecture, until the county seat of Yunlong was moved 20 miles north to Shimen in the early Republic of China. Walking through the streets and lanes of Baofeng Ancient Town, the old appearance of the bustling market can still be vaguely seen. It is an ancient town with a long history, outstanding people, and a tranquil and comfortable environment.
Baofeng, formerly known as Luoma, Luomajing, and Jinquanjing, is one of the birthplaces of the ancient Yunlong people. In ancient times, Yunlong County was called Bisu County, and 'Bisu' in the ancient Bai language means 'salt producing area'. Since the Han Dynasty, salt wells have been mined in Yunlong.
The residences in Baofeng are all typical Bai ethnic style, living along the Xijiang River and the mountains. The most representative building is the former residence of Dong Ze, which has a history of more than 100 years.
Dong Ze's former residence is the birthplace and growth place of Dong Ze, a pioneer of education in Yunnan Province, one of the founders of Donglu University (now Yunnan University), and the first principal, known as the 'Father of Higher Education in Yunnan', and a famous pioneer of education, finance, and aviation in modern Yunnan history.
The existing buildings of the former residence are basically Qing Dynasty architectural styles, facing east from the west, covering an area of 1023.5 square meters. It is a five-entry residential building group composed of five courtyards, and is one of the largest courtyards in Bai ethnic residences.
In the Baofeng Salt Well Culture Exhibition Hall, we saw the Luoma Salt Well. Under the introduction of the staff, it seemed to see the ancient salt making process. The ancient town is not big, and the people of Baofeng are very kind and enthusiastic. They took the initiative to guide us and introduce the historical sites of the ancient town.
