Originally built in 1898 and known as the "Church of St. Peter and St. Paul," this church was constructed by French Catholic missionaries. Located in the heart of Baoding City, it stands as a quintessential example of Western architecture. Measuring 54.3 meters long, 17.6 meters wide, and 20 meters high, the church is an imposing and elegant structure in the Romanesque style, with a capacity exceeding 1,000 people. Inside, 14 towering red columns support the roof, complemented by 12 meticulously carved white marble columns at the front, symbolizing the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. Adorning the side walls are 14 exquisite biblical paintings depicting the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus. The expansive dome and open space create a solemn and sacred atmosphere within the church. Whenever the organ plays, ethereal sacred music resonates throughout the entire space, fostering a deeply reverent and holy religious ambiance.

It was named "St. Peter's Church." Baoding Catholic Church is located in the center of Baoding City, Hebei Province. To the south is the ancient Lotus Pond, to the east is the famous Buddhist temple Daci Pavilion, and to the west is the Zhili Governor's Office. The church is not only a place for religious activities but also a key cultural relic protection unit in Hebei Province. In 2023, it was included in the "Eighth Batch of 20th Century Architectural Heritage of China." The church is a typical Romanesque building, 54.3 meters long, 17.6 meters wide, and 20 meters high. Inside, 14 towering red columns support the roof, and the altar has 12 marble-carved stone columns symbolizing the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ. On the way to Daci Pavilion, I happened to see the mass at the Catholic Church just ended. Baoding Catholic Church is not in the C position on Yuhua Street, but among a group of traditional Chinese ancient buildings, it is also difficult to ignore its existence. It is in an excellent location, with the Governor's Office of Zhili on the right, and the Ancient Lotus Pond facing each other, forming a character with the three ancient sites. Looking back at it in Daci Pavilion, the simple and rough bricks and stones, and the red walls and gray tiles are surprisingly harmonious in the same frame. It is a Romanesque church built in 1905. Interestingly, there are many Chinese elements in this Western-style building. The brick carvings on the outer wall have lotus flowers, lotus leaves, cranes, and cloud patterns, and the 14 tall and eye-catching columns inside are also Chinese red. Now on the exhibition board on the west side of the church, the "Ode to the Cross" by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty is also written. It seems that the French priest who built this place spent a lot of thought. The century-old church has experienced a century of wind and rain.
