It's essential to wear water-resistant, non-slip shoes as your feet will be wet throughout the trek. We hired a local tour guide from Kampung Sungai Bako to embark on an exciting 6-kilometer journey.The trek took about 2 to 3 hours, depending on our pace. Along the way, our guide explained why the river appeared reddish—the Pelawan trees, with their red bark, occasionally shed into the river, coloring the water. Despite its muddy look, the water was surprisingly clean, and we rewarded ourselves with a refreshing dip in the waterfall's cascade. Our guide, a local Malay who spoke fluent Chinese and Hakka, made the journey even more engaging by sharing fascinating stories of the area's natural wonders. The Telok Pandan Kecil trail, leading to a secluded beach with breathtaking rock formations. One must not miss the chance to spot and sight the iconic Proboscis Monkey while jungle trekking. Our short escapade to Kuching brought us to Bako National Park, which is a real gem. It is a tranquil and serene area, accessible by boat that runs hourly from Bako Pier. The place is filled with wildlife and multiple types of amazing natural vegetation. We also went for trekking at a few trails which have been clearly marked for visitors to follow. Luckily the weather was accommodating despite monsoon season. Such a refreshing holiday. Highly recommended.
