The Monastery, other than the Treasury, is another AMAZING wonder in Jordan!
Visiting the Monastery in Jordan is like stumbling upon a hidden gem in a lost world! Though it looks like the Treasury, it still offers unique view!
It's a trek worth every step. As you hike up the rocky trail, with every twist and turn, anticipation builds. Then, suddenly, you're greeted by a colossal façade carved into the cliff, dwarfing everything around it. The Monastery, with its intricate details and towering presence, leaves you in awe. Take a breather, catch your breath, and soak in the breathtaking views from the plateau. Explore the chambers, marvel at the ancient tombs, and let the sense of wonder wash over you. The Monastery is an unforgettable testament to the grandeur of the past.

Crossing deserts and mountains
The hike between Petra and little Petra may be pretty long and challenging in some aspects but the views which you are presented with make the effort all worth while.
As you leave little Petra you will cross a dusty desert highway until the views of the towering mountains that surround you come into view. The final climb towards the Monetary is perhaps the best part as you gain dramatic views across the valley as the stunning archaeological ruin finally comes into site #aprilblooms #desert #mountains #petra

Petra: Ed-Deir
The Ed-Deir, (meaning literally ‘The Monastery’ in Arabic) in Petra is in my opinion even more impressive and even more worth seeing than the treasury building which is the one you see and all the advertising for Petra. The hike to get there however is not easy with almost 800 steps but you’re awarded at the top with this amazing structure it’s huge facade. You also get great views of the valleys and gorgeous in the area from here.

The Stunning Backdoor Hike in Petra
The Little Petra to Petra hike is a great way to experience Petra without the crowds. The route will take you to the Monastery, which is equally as spectacular but far less visited than the Treasury. The hike starts at the backdoor of Petra, which can be reached by taking a jeep shuttle from Little Petra. The shuttle costs 5 Jordanian dinars per person and takes you as close as you can get to the steps for the back trail up to The Monastery.
The trail is about 8 kilometers long and takes 1.5-2 hours to complete. The path is in good condition all the way and the first half is flat. The exposed trail and heat in the summer months can make this track pretty tiring. Not only is this a perfect winter getaway but also an area away from tourists and the souvenir stands and you also get to see some pretty wild landscape that you wouldn't otherwise get to experience.
