Visiting the Asian Civillasation Museum
#europeanarchitecture
Getting There - Take the East-West Line (Green Line) or North-South Line (Red Line) to Raffles Place. Exit from Exit H, and the museum is about a 5-7 minute walk.
Attractions - The Asian Civilizations Museum (ACM) in Singapore has a cool mix of European and Asian architecture. The museum building itself is a great example of neoclassical design, which is a European style. It was originally built in the 1860s and used as government offices, so you can see its colonial roots in the grand pillars, arched windows, and clean, symmetrical lines.
Inside, the museum feels modern with spacious galleries, but you can still spot touches of its old European charm. It blends nicely with the surrounding area, sitting along the Singapore River near the Victoria Theatre and Empress Place. The European architecture gives it a classy, historical vibe, while the exhibitions inside focus on Asia’s rich culture and history, making it a unique place to visit.

One of the few good museums in Singapore
The museum is definitely worth a visit, with many well-curated exhibits on Singapore's history. It houses historical and religious artifacts. The ground floor focuses on artifacts salvaged from shipwrecks in the region, highlighting Singapore's role in maritime trade. The second floor is a highlight as it showcases religious artifacts from different religions in the region. It's fascinating to learn about this as this part of the collection is a melting pot of different religions. Everything is well laid out with many good explanatory notes. We spent about three hours in this museum, which was just the right amount of time.

🇸🇬 | Asian Civilisations Museum Singapore
Visited the [Asian Civilisation Museum]. Although I have passed by here countless times before, it is the first time to come inside. As one of the four major museums in Singapore, ACM mainly studies the history of material civilisation in China, Southeast Asia, South Asia and West Asia.
The museum has three large exhibition zones. The collections in the museum also include Chinese Taoist and Buddhist statues, various exquisite porcelain, calligraphy works and other decorative arts.

wonderful food at Empress
Empress is a very popular place for weddings. In fact i was just there for food tasting. Some of their banquet menu items are available in their day to day menu too.
I especially like their bird's nest soup and mochi ball with black sesame ice cream. Their food is not too salty/sweet so our parents love them.
Staff was very attentive and our water was never empty.
Some might find the indoor lights a bit dim for dinner but i like it as i dont like spot lights. You can choose to sit outdoors to admire the fairy lights! No aircon but there are quite a few fans so shouldnt be too hot!

Asian Civilizations Museum
Address - Asian Civilizations Museum, 1 Empress Place, Singapore 179555
The Asian Civilizations Museum is dedicated to housing and displaying works that are part of the category of Asian antiquities and decorative art! There are quite a number of free-to-view art works, namely the permanent exhibitions. There are also special rotating exhibitions that require an additional charge.
The museum is conveniently located about a 5-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT. Don’t forget to take some photos with the giant metal balls art installation on its front lawn too!
My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Having ice cream with bread

Ice cream uncle
Address: 1 Empress Pl, Singapore 179555
Nearest MRT: Raffles Place MRT Exit H
Do you know about the ice cream uncles all around Singapore? They sell ice cream on their motorbike. A moving refrigerator full of ice cream travelling around Singapore, bringing ice cream to you. Do not worry about unlicensed hawkers because all the ice cream uncles have proper licensing, a right to sell ice cream with the permission from authority.
You can choose between the numerous ice cream flavours on offer and choose to eat it with a waffle biscuit or soft white bread, sometimes the bread comes in rainbow colours too. It is such a happy sight to see them nowadays.
For me, I always see them outside The Fullerton Hotel, near Asian civilisations museum and I feel I am very lucky to have an ice cream with bread and enjoy the views at The Fullerton Hotel.
Now that the tourists are back, I always see a long queue at the ice cream uncle’s store. I am pretty sure the tourists are able to enjoy a different side of Singapore, our traditions and street food.

They all come from a sunken ship from the Tang Dynasty.
About 1,200 years ago, an ancient Arab cargo ship loaded with items from the Tang Dynasty set sail from Yangzhou, China, and resupplied in Guangzhou. Unfortunately, it hit a black reef and sank near Sumatra Island. The shipwreck was discovered and salvaged from the seabed near Belitung Island, Indonesia in 1998. Experts affectionately named the ship "Black Stone" after the cause of the accident.
📷📷📷📷
The German salvage team, the Indonesian government, China, and the Singaporean government all battled for ownership of these cultural relics. In the end, the German side received some cultural relics, and a small portion went to the Hunan Museum in Changsha, the National Marine Museum in Tianjin, the Macau Museum, and the National Museum of Indonesia in Jakarta. Most of the relics, including the best quality ones, are in the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore.
🌊🌊🌊🌊
The Black Stone shipwreck is about 18 meters long and 6.4 meters wide. It is a very rare shipwreck from the same period. More than 60,000 cultural relics were salvaged, including various ceramics from Changsha Kiln, Yue Kiln, Xing Kiln, and Gong County Kiln, as well as various gold and silverware and bronze mirrors. Each cultural relic is a precious historical testament that has been sealed for a thousand years. It is really worth a visit. If you only visit one museum in Singapore, I would definitely recommend the Asian Civilizations Museum.

Asian Civilisations Museum
#singaporetrip Having visited most of the major museums in Singapore, I can confidently say that this one is definitely worth checking out. However, I did find it challenging to navigate between exhibitions. There were no clear instructions on how to move from one to the next, so I ended up walking to the end and then retracing my steps. This meant I could have missed some smaller exhibition areas if I wasn't paying close attention. I had to ask the guards for directions multiple times. Additionally, all the elevators were out of service, so I had to take the stairs. Despite these difficulties, I found this smaller museum to be a nice place to spend a solid two hours exploring everything it has to offer. There is a cafe downstairs and a souvenir shop where I noticed they offer interesting workshops like porcelain decoration on plates and mugs, although I didn't have time to try them. If you've already visited all the major museums in the area, I recommend paying a visit here to enjoy a leisurely walk and immerse yourself in their impressive collections. Don't have to buy ticket in advance, just purchase upon arrival at the kiosk or counter.

#singaporetrip I enjoyed my time visiting this museum. It has amazing collections!! I love the ancient and religions section the most, the room was dim but with great spotlight it showcases the collection so well I love taking a moment to stare at the collections. I also love the jewelry section, some of it is interactive where I can take a look closely about the jewelry in detail. They give you a map and recommend the section you can visit in row.

🇸🇬Asian Civilisations Museum:Must Visit !
#wheretogo
The museum's collection was remarkably impressive. It showcased a great ceramic collection from maritime shipwrecks dating back to the 830s, which were discovered in a beautiful and perfectly preserved state. I was stunned by how delicate the work are given that resources were limited back then! It was fascinating to learn about how Chinese ceramics influenced the rest of the world. I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed such a remarkable pottery collection. Three hours are simply not enough to go through everything! Definitely would be back again! It’s free for Singaporean and Permanent residents so take a historical tour today ! #timetotravel #rediscoversg #rediscoversingapore #singapore

Just right outside of the Asian Civilisations Museum, there are these huge, round, steel looking spheres laying on the lawn. These sculptures by Baet Yeok Kuan are actually interactive installations that act as an audio time capsule, capturing the sounds of Singapore, from hawker centres to public transport! Take a picture of yourself on these reflective spheres and listen to the sounds! #timetotravel #rediscoversg #rediscoversingapore #singapore
