Located in the heart of the Greek countryside, about 90 minutes from Athens, this ancient site is a must-see for history enthusiasts. The entrance fee was €12, which was well worth it given the grandeur of the ruins and the historical significance. 🏛️ Walking through the Lion Gate and seeing the remnants of the ancient palace was like stepping back in time. The massive walls and intricate artifacts offer a glimpse into Mycenaean civilization that’s both awe-inspiring and humbling. Nearby, the Tomb of Agamemnon (or the Treasury of Atreus) is another highlight, showcasing impressive beehive-shaped architecture. The ancient ruins are incredibly well-preserved, and standing before the famous Lion Gate gave me chills. The panoramic views from the top of the site are breathtaking, and you can really feel the weight of history in the air. 🌄 Nearby, you can explore the charming town of Nafplio, which is perfect for a relaxing stroll and some delicious Greek food. Interesting trails below the citadel lead to beehive tombs-- don't miss these! The museum on the same grounds hold the collections taken from the excavations and gives context to the visit. Don't miss it. Be aware this is a stop on many tourist itineraries and it can be crowded with tour groups.
