Lamphun, a trip filled with merit and happiness
Almost everyone who visits Lamphun must not miss paying homage to the Phra That at Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahawihan, which is a large and beautiful golden Phra That with a lotus-shaped base, recessed lotus pedestal, followed by a three-tiered round pedestal, and a round bell-shaped top. In addition to the Phra That, there are many other interesting places in the temple, such as the Wihan Phra Chao Tan Jai, Wihan Phra Chao Ong Daeng, the Four Buddha Footprints, the Rahu Deity, and the Navel of Lamphun for you to pay homage to. Another place you shouldn’t miss taking pictures of is the double lion arch in front of the temple.
If you come during the Loi Krathong festival, the temple will hold a hundred thousand lanterns event, decorated with beautiful multi-colored Lanna lanterns. This is another landmark worth taking pictures of.
When you are satisfied with your prayers, come recharge at the restaurants and coffee shops behind the temple. The road behind the temple is a cultural street with many coffee shops and restaurants located on Inthayongyot Road. Let’s start with Signature Coffee Lamphun, a coffee shop with affordable prices but great quality! Next to the coffee shop, we had to refuel at the Thai Chicken Rice shop. The chicken here is really delicious. You have to try it. If you go late, in the late afternoon, sometimes they may run out of chicken. Next to that is the Temple House Lamphum coffee shop, which is a good place to sit and cool off. The shop is spacious and comfortable to sit in. On the upper floor is an art gallery that you can go up and see for free. After we were no longer tired, we walked to the Hariphunchai National Museum, Lamphun, which tells the story of the long history of Hariphunchai. The exhibition is considered very well done. After the museum, we stopped by to eat ice cream at Chompoonuch shop and took a photo with the pink building, which is another landmark before we stopped to pay homage to the most famous amulet of the "Lamphun family" at Wat Mahawan, which is Phra Rod Lamphun, for good luck. Then we stopped to pay homage at Wat Chamdevi, which has a pagoda that is believed to enshrine the relics of Queen Chamadevi. In addition, there is also a shrine of the relics of Khru Ba Chao Sriwichai in the temple area. Before returning, we stopped to pay homage at the Queen Chamadevi Monument. Behind Nong Dok Market, if you go in the evening at 6:00 PM, there is an evening market with a shop called Ja Lao, fried pork, which is worth queuing for because the fried pork with nam phrik num is sooo delicious. A great thing in Lamphun.
