Riding through the straight forest paths at 60 km/h was exhilarating! I was glad I chose to visit the museum and watch the sunset on the first afternoon, joined a hostel tour for the Small Circuit on the second day, and hired a car for the Outer Circuit on the third day. This way, I could mark important points on the map and freely explore the side routes, enriching my understanding of the different periods and kings' aesthetics. I could identify the carvings and stories, and see how Hinduism and Buddhism intertwined. Why do the four-faced king statues on the city gates smile? How do the gods and demons balance each other while churning the ocean of milk? These experiences gave me a preliminary but holistic understanding. Standing in the same corner I saw on the Lonely Planet cover as a child, I felt happiness and contentment beyond my imagination. Siem Reap, as a travel destination, wasn't as dangerous as I feared. Travelers from around the world have made it lively, and as long as you greet locals with kindness and respect, they are eager to share their lives and work with you. They love taking panoramic photos with you, asking if your hometown has four seasons, and how many rice crops grow annually. When I first got on the bike, I didn't realize I had the turn signal and headlights on. A tuk-tuk driver called out to me from afar and stopped to show me how to operate each button. I loved watching the sunrise and sunset. Siem Reap's flat terrain makes Phnom Bakheng a real Mount Meru, and Angkor Wat is built as an ideal Mount Meru, the center of the universe, closer to the heavens. Whether setting out at 4 AM or descending after sunset, you notice the absence of modern lighting around these temples and mountains, allowing you to walk gently in the same light as 2,000 years ago. Walking these dark paths isn't frightening; they are places built for faith, filled with pure and solemn energy. Moreover, many small spirits live here, from the grass to the high treetops, with colorful and lovely butterflies everywhere. After landing, fill out the arrival card before applying for the visa on arrival, which takes about 20 minutes. The second day, we had a female guide who spoke excellent Chinese and was informative. The cost for a day, including a 7-seater car, was $95. Small Circuit: I recommend visiting only Angkor Wat! Honestly, it's a sincere suggestion as other sites might cause aesthetic fatigue unless your guide is exceptional. It's currently the rainy season, so there's no need to climb Bakheng Mountain as there's not much to see, and you won't catch the sunset. Grand Circuit and Outer Circuit: I didn't visit the Grand Circuit, so no comment, but the Outer Circuit is worth seeing. It's relaxed, with most time spent in the car, so there's no need to walk around much. Safety: The locals are very friendly and honest, so there's no need to worry about being robbed; they won't steal your phone. Laundry: Laundry is cheap, costing $1 per kg, and they deliver it to your hotel! Tickets: Buy e-tickets a day in advance using Visa for the best price. This grants you access for the whole day, basically. And I'm sure it's totally worth it. The acres and hectars that directly surround Angkor Wat temple were and still are part of it, and you find probably 10+ (I stand to be corrected) smaller temples with the same characteristics and historic cultural accents. You will still have a great experience, and you'll still leave with breathing photos for less than $10 for 3-4 people that will be in a tuk tuk. I would advise you to use one of the tuk tuk drivers from the Angkor Wat area as they would be familiar with where to find these smaller surrounding temples and structures. If you are in the city centre of Kota Kinabalu, purple sunset is the highlight of the town. 2) Siem reap - It really depends on the luck if you would like to see the sunset through the ancient Khmer empire - Angkor Wat. If you cant see the sunrise, most of the time, you will miss pit the sunset too!! 3) Bali - Sunset can be seen everywhere in Bali but I think Tanah Lot is one of the most beautiful spot to enjoy it and do expect huge crowds everyday in the evening hour😆

Chasing the first light at Angkor Wat again. This trip, we went hunting for the light for two days and two nights. The first night, it rained all night, and when we arrived, the clouds obscured everything. Did we give up? No, we still had one more day. We woke up at 4 AM to secure a prime spot. We waited to witness the first light of the day emerging behind the backdrop of 'Angkor Wat.' I wanted to see with my own eyes if it was truly worth the saying 'See Angkor and Die.' This time, we didn't miss the beautiful orange light. It was breathtakingly beautiful, just as the rumors said. It was so beautiful that we had to come back to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat again. We traveled by hiring a tuk-tuk for 3 days and 2 nights.

I spent 2 days exploring Angkor Wat ～ the biggest site of temples in the world, located near Siem Reap, Cambodia 🇰🇭 📍 Here are some of my favourite locations: 1. Angkor Wat - the main temple that everyone visits. Many people visit at sunrise for a beautiful view. Once inside, you can climb to the top and explore. 2. Ta Prohm - made famous by the Lara Croft Tomb Raider movie, the trees have taken back their place in nature with roots growing into the buildings. This one has loads of cool photo opportunities. 3. Preah Khan - a real hidden gem, there was absolutely no one else there when I visited. It’s a lot older and less restored, but that’s what gives it charm. This was probably my favourite, I was totally amazed here. 4. Royal Palace - once again I was all alone! The long path to the palace is perfect for a beautiful photo. 5. Angkor Thom - another well known temple, located in the Bayon. This was a big temple to explore (and get lost in), but I was actually more excited seeing the gate on the drive out! INFO: 💰1 day ticket is $37, 3 days is $62 or 7 days is $72. 🎟️ Buy tickets online and print it in advance so you don’t have to go to the ticket office on site and queue. 🛺 I recommend spending at least 2 days exploring Angkor Wat. Hire a tuk tuk driver for around $20 per day ～ you can choose where you want to go, or take one of their routes. 🌅 In my opinion, you don’t need to visit Angkor Wat for sunrise. Angkor Wat has to be one of the most iconic landmarks in the world and it’s been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. I’m finally lucky enough to do it! I bought my one day ticket off trip.com, it recommend doing this to avoid queues at the ticket center. You will get contact details, send them information and a photo then they will send PDF ticket. Just show the tickets at the entrances, download the ticket Incase you don’t have service! I flew into Siam Reap then got a taxi to the visitor center, there I had a guide waiting for me. The complex itself is a vast collection of hundreds of temples, in various sizes and levels of decay. My driver took me to various places and gave me a brief history of each I would advise going early as it can get very busy and very hot! Some of the temples offer shade, however most are fully outdoor. I honestly couldn’t recommend this trip enough, however I would say do the 3 day ticket not the 1 day ticket. There is so much to see and do! You can stay in Siam Reap and then it’s 20 minute drive to the complex each day. 🕰️Business Hours: 7:30AM - 5:30PM (some smaller temples open at 5am, your guide should know) 💰Average Price per Person: £37 roughly for the one day ticket, I paid about £40 for a tuk tuk drive to take me around for about 6 hours 🏖️Ambiance/Facilities: Remember even though it’s hot, dress appropriately!
