If you’re heading to Sumba, Indonesia, Air Terjun Tanggedu should absolutely be on your itinerary. This waterfall, located about 1.5 hours from Waingapu, is often called the “Grand Canyon of Sumba” for its stunning rock formations and turquoise waters. The journey there involves a bit of an adventure—expect a bumpy ride and a short hike—but trust me, it’s worth every step! 🚶♂️
What makes Tanggedu special? First, the scenery is unreal. The water tumbles over layers of smooth rock, creating natural pools perfect for a refreshing dip. Second, it’s not as crowded as other waterfalls in Indonesia, meaning you can actually enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature instead of a hundred selfie sticks clicking away. 📸
I highly recommend bringing water, snacks, and good shoes because the trek can get hot. But once you arrive, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most breathtaking spots in Sumba. If you love adventure, nature, and places that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard, this is it! 🌊✨

Sumba Island
The river and waterfall in the midst of nature are refreshing.
Sumba Island in Indonesia offers a delightful spot. It's located deep in the mountains, and you need a local to take you there by motorbike. It took about 3 hours from the main area.
The cold water and beautiful nature were incredibly refreshing. I want to go again with a swimsuit and sandals.
Getting around Sumba Island is difficult without a car or motorbike. Some roads are not well-maintained, so it's recommended to join a tour.
