This building was originally the century-old "Old Kyoto Central Telephone Exchange". After renovation, it retains the style of an old Western-style house, forming an interesting contrast with the newly added modern building. The first floor was converted into commercial space, while the second and third floors house hotel rooms. This is also the first hotel in the Ace Hotel chain to have a Japanese "Japanese-style bedroom" design. - The rooms are all equipped with Isamu Noguchi paper lamps. - Checking in to the long-awaited Ace Hotel, it's not a big name in Kyoto and is often jokingly referred to as a luxury hostel. In my opinion, under Kengo Kuma's design, it's young and vibrant, while the exterior retains a traditional Machiya style. A record player in the room is a signature feature of Ace Hotel, and you can even choose your own vinyl in the lounge area. The gleaming bathroom fixtures, polished daily, left a lasting impression (although it's only been open for four years, it's incredibly well-maintained! Kudos again). The clever "Now" and "Not Now" messages on the small brooms indicate immediate cleaning or do not disturb, respectively. During cleaning, a blank broom hangs on the door, and there are no cleaning carts in the hallway.
