Tourist Attractions
- Takachiho Gorge: Formed by volcanic activity from Mount Aso, this gorge features 100-meter-high cliffs, primeval forests, and the Gokase River flowing through it. Visitors can take a boat tour to admire the Manai Falls. The fresh greenery of summer and the autumn leaves make it a beautiful sight, with mid-November to late November being the best time to visit.
- Udo Shrine: A rare shrine built on a cliff facing the Nichinan Coast in Nichinan City. The vermilion main hall is located inside a cave in the cliff wall. It is known for its blessings related to safe childbirth, child-rearing, and marriage. The unique way of making wishes here, called "Undama," is very popular.
- Aoshima Shrine: Located on Aoshima Island in Miyazaki City, this shrine is surrounded by a unique rock formation called "Oni-no-Sentakuita" (Devil's Washboard). It attracts many visitors as a sacred place for marriage. The island offers many photo spots and is about a 10-minute walk from Aoshima Station on the JR Nichinan Line.
- Sun Messe Nichinan: Home to the only Moai statues in the world officially replicated with permission from Easter Island. They sit facing the sea, and it is said that making a wish while hugging a statue can bring different kinds of good fortune.
- Toi Cape: Here you can see the Misaki horses, a national natural monument. Standing 130cm tall, they create a soothing scene against the backdrop of the vast ocean.
- Horse's Back: This cliff has the highest elevation in Japan. From the observatory, you can see a panoramic view of the spectacular ria coast and the Pacific Ocean.
