Great Nature Getaway Near Chiang Mai
📍Ob Khan National Park, Chiang Mai, Thailand
Ob Khan National Park is a hidden gem just 45 minutes to an hour from Chiang Mai’s city center. The drive is narrow but not too steep, making it easily accessible by car. No entrance fee, which makes it a budget-friendly choice for nature lovers!
The park is well-known for its stunning rock formations along the Mae Khan River. The river has clear, cool water, perfect for relaxing, dipping your feet, or even swimming. There’s also a small trekking trail, ideal for light hiking and enjoying the natural surroundings.
Facilities include a tourist center with free restrooms and a coffee shop, making it a great place to relax. Camping is allowed, but since there are no trash bins, visitors must bring a trash bag and take their waste with them.
Please note that the best time to visit Ob Khan is during the cool season (November to February) when the weather is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 15-25°C, making it perfect for hiking, picnicking, and camping. The river remains clear and refreshing, and the scenery is lush and vibrant. The hot season (March to May) is still possible but can be uncomfortable due to high temperatures (30-40°C). The rainy season (June to October) is not recommended as trails become muddy and slippery, and rising water levels can make swimming unsafe.
