So here's my genuine experience and real unedited pictures of Val di Funes As a solo traveller I decided to stay in Bolzano (I saw another fellow traveller advising to stay in Bolzano) I took several buses from Bolzano to reach Val di Funes. There was a bit of confusion along the way, and I ended up stranded halfway. Luckily, one of the bus drivers helped me and directed me towards the next connection. I somehow managed to reach Val di Funes, but the long waiting times and delays made me arrive quite late. The buses can be unreliable, and unfortunately, the last bus back is at 6:00 pm, so I didn’t have much time to enjoy the place. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay to watch the sunset because the last local bus was at 6:00 pm. And remember, you need to take three buses to get back to Bolzano, so it’s important to plan your return journey carefully. However, it was worth every bit of the hassle I had to go through. The landscape was absolutely surreal #dolomites #solotravel

Lago di Braies, Dolomites, Italy 🇮🇹🏔️ Lago di Braies, also known as Pragser Wildsee, is one of the most spectacular alpine lakes in the Dolomites of northern Italy. Surrounded by dramatic limestone peaks and dense mountain forests, its turquoise-green water creates an almost unreal landscape. 💚💙 The iconic wooden boathouse and traditional boats sitting along the shore have become one of the most recognizable sights in the Dolomites. On calm mornings, the mountains reflect beautifully on the lake, making it a dream destination for photographers and nature lovers. 🚣♂️📸 A walk around the lake is another great way to experience the scenery, with different viewpoints revealing the mountains from constantly changing perspectives. 📍 Location: Braies, South Tyrol, Italy 🏔️ Region: Dolomites, Italian Alps 💧 Known for: Turquoise alpine water & mountain reflections 🚣 Must-do: Traditional wooden boat ride 🥾 Experience: Lakeside hiking & photography 🌅 Best time: Early morning for peaceful views and reflections Lago di Braies is more than a lake—it feels like a piece of the Dolomites painted by nature. ✨🇮🇹

Lago di Braies is one of the most beautiful lakes I've ever visited, and it's easy to see why it's considered a highlight of the Italian Dolomites. Surrounded by towering mountains and lush forests, the lake's emerald-turquoise water creates a peaceful setting that feels almost unreal. Walking around the lake is one of the best ways to appreciate its beauty. The trail is well-maintained and offers stunning views from every angle, with plenty of spots to stop for photos or simply enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. If the weather is calm, the reflections of the surrounding peaks on the crystal-clear water make the scenery even more magical. One of the lake's most iconic experiences is renting a traditional wooden rowboat and gliding across the water. Seeing the mountains from the middle of the lake provides a completely different perspective and is an unforgettable way to experience this alpine gem. · *Travel Tips:** · Best time to visit: Summer is always the best time as you can see the vibrant colours of the nature. · Visit early in the morning for fewer crowds and the best lighting for photography. · Allow 2–3 hours to walk the lakeside trail and enjoy the scenery. · Check parking and shuttle arrangements during peak season, as visitor access may be managed. Whether you're looking for breathtaking scenery, a relaxing walk, or incredible photography opportunities, Lago di Braies is a destination that truly lives up to its reputation. Its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere make it one of the most unforgettable places to visit in the Dolomites. #lagodibraies #dolomites #alpinelakes #europetrip #italy

Nestled among the majestic Dolomites, South Tyrol is one of Europe’s most breathtaking regions. Here, dramatic mountain peaks, emerald valleys, crystal-clear lakes, and charming villages create a landscape that feels straight out of a fairytale. From the moment I arrived, I was surrounded by postcard-perfect scenery. Wooden chalets dotted the hillsides, church steeples rose above picturesque villages, and the towering Dolomites dominated the horizon. 🏔️ The region is a paradise for nature lovers. Whether hiking through alpine meadows, exploring mountain passes, or simply admiring the views, every corner reveals another unforgettable panorama. 💙 South Tyrol is also home to some of Italy’s most beautiful lakes, where turquoise waters perfectly reflect the surrounding peaks and forests. 🌿 What makes this region unique is its blend of cultures. Italian warmth meets Alpine traditions, creating a destination rich in history, cuisine, and character. 🚶 My favorite moments were spent wandering through peaceful valleys, listening to cowbells echo across the mountains while the fresh Alpine air filled the landscape. 📸 Every season brings its own magic—from vibrant green summers and golden autumns to snow-covered winter wonderlands. ✨ South Tyrol is more than a destination; it’s a place where nature, culture, and mountain beauty come together perfectly. 📍 South Tyrol, Italy 🇮🇹 “Some places are beautiful. A Beautiful Hike Where the Journey Is Just as Special. One of the routes I really enjoyed in the Dolomites was hiking from Col Raiser to Seceda. After taking the Col Raiser gondola up, we arrived near Almhotel Col Raiser, and the view right from this area was already beautiful. The mountains surround you almost completely, and the scenery feels very open and peaceful. I would say that even if you do not plan to hike very far, simply taking the gondola up to Col Raiser is already worth it for the views. From there, we continued walking toward Malga Pieralongia Alm. This was one of my favorite parts of the route. Malga Pieralongia is a mountain hut and restaurant set in the middle of wide alpine meadows, with beautiful scenery all around. The area feels very open, almost like you have a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains. I really loved this spot because it was spacious and incredibly photogenic. After spending some time there, we continued hiking uphill toward Seceda. The route gradually climbs until you reach the area near the Seceda cable car station. From there, we walked up to the main viewpoint and the famous Seceda ridgeline, where you can see the dramatic jagged peaks that this area is known for. We spent some time taking photos and enjoying the view at the top, and then started making our way back down. Our return route was slightly different from the route we took on the way up. Instead of retracing the entire hike back through Pieralongia, we mostly followed the trail downhill from Seceda. This made the second half of the hike feel much easier because most of the walking was descending rather than climbing. Allow around 4–4.5 hours if you want to walk comfortably, stop for photos and enjoy the scenery without rushing. We started around 9 AM and were back at the Col Raiser gondola at approximately 2 PM. For me, the best thing about this hike was that Seceda was not the only highlight. The scenery from Col Raiser, the open meadows around Pieralongia, and the mountain views along the trail were just as memorable as the famous viewpoint itself. Sometimes when we travel, we focus so much on reaching the final destination that we forget to enjoy everything along the way. But on this route, I honestly felt that the journey to Seceda was just as beautiful as Seceda itself. If you have enough time, I really recommend taking the Col Raiser route rather than simply going directly up to Seceda by cable car. It takes more effort, but you get to experience so much more of the landscape along the way. #Hiking #secedahike #seceda #Colraiser

Cinema delle Odle, also known by its German name Geislerkino, is not a typical movie theater but a world-class outdoor viewpoint. Located in the Val di Funes valley within the Italian Dolomites, it has been acclaimed by travelers worldwide as a "natural theater grander than any IMAX screen." Getting There and Hiking Route Reaching this spot requires hiking, as there are no direct cable cars available. Starting Point: Drive to the Parcheggio Malga Zannes (Zans Parking) (parking fee is approximately €8). Distance and Time: The total round-trip is about 9.7–10 kilometers (roughly 1.5 hours one way). Expect a total hiking time of 3–4 hours, depending on your fitness. Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate. The trail is well-kept and clearly marked. While there is some elevation gain (total ascent of about 403 meters), it is quite manageable for 6-year-old children or healthy seniors.

#adventuretrips No car rental, no rushing around - I found out you can totally have a super chill trip just using public transport. This time I stayed in Santa Cristina, which made it super easy to do light hikes to Seceda and Alpe di Siusi. Day Rome → Bolzano → Santa Cristina Hopped on a train from Rome to Bolzano, then caught bus 350 to Santa Cristina. The hotel sent me a free Guest Pass for public transport beforehand, so I just scanned the QR code the whole way. After checking in, I didn't rush into anything - just chilled in my room and hit the sauna. In the evening, I went for a dip in the pool with mountain views, slowly getting into that staycation vibe. Day Seceda (p4) In the morning, I just walked a few steps from La Tambra Lodge to Dosses Square, hopped on the free shuttle to Col Raiser cable car station, took the cable car up, and then hiked all the way to Seceda. There are restaurants along the trail, so when I got tired, l'd grab a cold drink and take a break. It took me a little over two hours to reach the top (about an hour and a half if you're just hiking). When the grassy slopes, wooden cabins, and the Seceda ridge all came into view at once, it seriously felt like I'd walked right into a computer wallpaper. Day 3 Alpe di Siusi (p1 p8) Took the bus to Ortise, then hopped on a cable car up to Alpe di Siusi. This place is way more chill than Seceda, perfect for some light hiking. I just strolled along the grassy paths, found a cute mountain cabin for lunch, then headed back to the hotel in the afternoon to nap, swim, or just soak up some sun. Day Sassolungo → Return Trip (p6-7) For the last morning, I decided to sleep in and take my time with breakfast and coffee. After eating,! wandered around the town, checked out Sassolungo, and then caught bus 350 back to Bolzano. I really enjoyed my stay this time. The pace was just right. Every day after hiking, I'd enjoy a dip in the pool or a sauna session. Opening the balcony to that mountain view - that's what happiness feels like. If you're not super confident with your driving skills, you can totally skip renting a car in the Dolomites. The mountain roads here can be pretty tricky - you might run into situations like passing cars on cliffs, yielding, or even having to reverse. You're better off saving that car rental money and finding a cozy place in Santa Cristina to enjoy your summer days. #adventure #santacristina #pool #mountainview

Some mountains are beautiful. The Dolomites are extraordinary. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dolomites are among the most spectacular mountain landscapes on Earth. Located in northern Italy, this breathtaking region is famous for its dramatic limestone peaks, emerald valleys, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and charming mountain villages. 🌄 What makes the Dolomites truly unique is their striking appearance. Towering rock formations rise sharply above lush meadows and forests, creating a landscape unlike anywhere else in the world. 💙 From the turquoise waters of alpine lakes to panoramic viewpoints overlooking endless mountain ranges, every corner feels like a masterpiece crafted by nature. 🏞️ Whether hiking scenic trails, driving through mountain passes, or simply admiring the views, the beauty of the Dolomites never stops inspiring. Every turn reveals another postcard-perfect scene. 🌅 One of the most magical moments is witnessing Enrosadira, when the setting sun paints the pale mountains in shades of pink, orange, and gold. The transformation is so beautiful that it feels almost unreal. 📸 My favorite memory was standing among the towering peaks while clouds drifted across the mountains and sunlight illuminated the valleys below. It was one of those moments that reminded me how incredible our planet truly is. ✨ The Dolomites are more than a mountain range—they are a living work of art and one of Europe’s greatest natural treasures. 📍 Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site, Italy 🇮🇹 “Some landscapes are admired. Sitting above 2,500 meters, Seceda offers front-row views of the famous Odle/Geisler peaks without demanding a grueling climb to get there. A cable car whisks you up from the village of Ortisei, and within minutes you're stepping out into one of the most surreal landscapes in Europe. Whether you're chasing the perfect golden-hour photo, looking for a peaceful spot to breathe in the mountain air, or simply want to say you've stood on one of Italy's most iconic ridgelines, Seceda delivers an experience that's hard to top. Getting up: Hop on the cable car from Ortisei — it's fast, easy, and skips the need for serious hiking gear. Dress smart: Even on warm days, it can turn windy and cool at the top — bring a light layer just in case. #italy #seceda #dolomites #travel #europetrip #travel #mountainview #mountainview

When I first saw the photos, I thought it was Switzerland. But once I arrived, I realized Switzerland lacks a certain magical charm. 🌟Real feelings (the camera can’t capture it all) At first glance, I was completely stunned Val di Funes is located in South Tyrol, northern Italy. The moment I parked the car, the jagged Odle Group peaks stood right before me. Lush green meadows, scattered red-tiled wooden houses, and cows grazing leisurely. This isn’t just scenery—it’s like stepping directly into a postcard. The lonely church: the most iconic spot Chiesetta di San Giovanni in Ranui is built in the middle of an open meadow, with the Odle peaks right behind it. From afar, the church is surrounded by mountains and green fields, evoking an indescribable sense of solitude. It’s a 5-minute walk from the Ranui parking lot. Santa Magdalena church viewpoint Walk 20–30 minutes uphill from the village to overlook the church and the jagged peaks in one frame. The afternoon light is perfect, and at sunset, you can see the Enrosadira—the mountains gradually shift from pale gold to rose pink. Arrive about 1 hour before sunset to watch the light and shadows change slowly. It’s more breathtaking than any photo. Easy hike: step into a painting I recommend the Adolf Munkel Trail, about 10 km long with a 400 m elevation gain. Starting from Zanser Alm, it crosses the mountainside. The white dolomite peaks loom overhead like dog teeth, while the other side is deep green forest. The breeze carries the scent of pine resin. No advanced hiking experience needed; a slow pace takes about 4 hours. 🗓Trip plan (2 days 1 night, take it easy) Day 1 Arrive in Bolzano or Ortisei in the afternoon → drive 45 minutes to Val di Funes → head straight to the lonely church for sunset → stay in the valley or in Brixen town Day 2 Early morning revisit Santa Magdalena viewpoint for morning mist → hike the Adolf Munkel trail → return in the afternoon 🍜Simple local food (3 must-tries) · South Tyrolean dumplings: local dumplings with butter sauce, a mountain specialty · Fresh apples: orchards are everywhere in the valley, crisp and juicy · Mountain-top restaurant: Rifugio near Zanser Alm, great views and reasonable prices ⚠Travel tips · Best season: June–September for lush greenery, September–October for golden autumn colors · Best time: arrive at viewpoints 1–1.5 hours before sunset · Transportation: driving is easiest. You can also take bus 360/351 from Ortisei and transfer to 330/331, but service is limited · Accommodation: Brixen town is recommended for convenience and much cheaper than Ortisei · What to wear: slip-resistant hiking shoes + light jacket (it’s cool in the mountains early and late) · Reminder: drones are prohibited, do not enter private pastures; signal is unstable in the valley, download offline maps in advance Switzerland is beautiful, New Zealand is beautiful too. But Val di Funes is the kind of beauty that quiets you and leaves you speechless.

🚠🥾 Early April Renon: empty town hiking in South Tyrol In early April, you arrive at the cable car station near Bolzano train station (Via Renon 12), buy a ticket for the Renon cable car — a 12-minute ride climbing 950 meters to Upper Bolzano (Soprabolzano/Oberbozen, 1,220 meters). As the doors open, the cold wind from the southern Alps mixed with the scent of melting snow hits your face. At this moment, you understand: April in the Dolomites is the melt season, with few visitors entering the mountains and most villages playing the empty town trick. In return, the entire Renon plateau feels like it’s reserved just for you. 🚠 Coordinates and transport chain (guide version) Full route: Bolzano city center → Renon cable car up to Soprabolzano → transfer to Renon narrow-gauge train (Trenino del Renon) → Collalbo (Klobenstein, 1,154 meters) terminal → hike past the earth pyramids → toward St. Nicholas church → continue walking to the small village of Longostagno → bus back to Bolzano. Bolzano cable car station: Via Renon 12, 39100 Bolzano, right next to the train station, a 5-minute walk. Renon narrow-gauge train: South Tyrol’s only mountain narrow-gauge railway, built in 1907. Originally it ran directly from Bolzano city center to the Renon plateau. In 1966, the section was replaced by the cable car, but the train remains the main transport on the plateau. The ride from Soprabolzano to Collalbo takes about 15–20 minutes. Earth pyramids (Piramidi di terra): From Collalbo, follow the signs for a 15–20 to 30–40 minute walk. These are slender clay pillars up to 20–30 meters tall, each topped with a naturally balanced large stone, resembling Gothic church spires. Longostagno: About 6–7 km further on foot from Collalbo. The village has the Chiesa della Santa Ottilia di Longostagno (St. Ottilia church, Dorf Paese, 39054 Longostagno BZ). Public transport: South Tyrol bus system (Südtirolmobil). From Bolzano, take bus 165 to Collalbo and nearby towns. In early April, some mountain village routes run infrequently. Be sure to check return bus times on the Südtirolmobil app before you go. ⚠️ April key reminder: During melt season, many low-star hotels, restaurants, and visitor centers in villages are closed, and bus service is sparse. Be sure to check return trips in advance. It’s recommended to buy a combined cable car + train ticket (about €18), which is about €4 cheaper than buying separately. 🥾 How to enjoy the empty town hike properly ① Cable car + narrow-gauge train: Bolzano’s backyard The Renon plateau is often called "Bolzano’s backyard," with an average elevation over 1,000 meters. The distant Dolomites peaks remain unobstructed. When you take the cable car up, the entire city of Bolzano and the Dolomites unfold beneath you — this "city to alpine meadow" transition takes just 12 minutes. The old wooden train rattles toward Collalbo, with brownish melt-season meadows outside the window and white peaks in the distance. The "Alpine light" season hasn’t arrived yet, but the black, white, and gray melt colors have their own austere beauty. ② Earth pyramids: glacier’s strange masterpiece left on Renon Get off at Collalbo and walk toward the earth pyramids. These slender triangular mud pillars topped with "mushroom cap" stones look like miniature Gothic church spires or the stone forests of Cappadocia, Turkey. They are the result of centuries of ancient glacier erosion and soil erosion. In April, few people are around. Standing among the pillars, you can caption your photo: "The glacier left, leaving this pillar as its calling card." ③ St. Ottilia church + Longostagno: the empty town trick in action From the earth pyramids, continue forward, passing a small mountain village church, and keep walking to the village of Longostagno. The moment you enter the village, it really feels like an empty town trick: The village’s three low-star hotels are all closed, windows dusty; No one is seen on the street, but later you find out villagers are attending mass in the church — the village’s Chiesa della Santa Ottilia di Longostagno is the community’s heartbeat; An English-speaking local comes out and kindly tells you how to take the bus back to Bolzano. 💡 This scene is the most touching detail of the whole story — in South Tyrol’s German-speaking mountain village, Sunday mass remains the community’s heartbeat. As a stranger, you unexpectedly touch the village’s true pulse through a mass. This "empty town + mass" contrast is something you definitely won’t experience during the busy July and August tourist seasons. ④ Bus back to Bolzano Follow the local’s directions and take the bus down the mountain back to Bolzano. In April, this bus may run only a few times a day. Be sure to confirm the last bus time before boarding — otherwise, you might be waiting for rescue by the empty village church. It’s recommended to allow about 6–7 hours for the whole trip (round-trip cable car + train + 6–7 km hike + bus wait time). ✨ Special experience (anti-crowd version) "Melt season exclusive" package: Coming in April means avoiding the July and August tourist flood. You can freely photograph the earth pyramids, and the entire village of Longostagno will play the empty town trick just for you. The trade-off is cold, damp weather, and some facilities closed — but in return, you get the luxury of having the entire Renon plateau to yourself. Best time: Early to mid-April is the tail end of melt season. The snow line starts to retreat, Dolomites peaks remain white, and the meadows at the foot of the mountain begin to turn green. Taking the cable car in the morning, hiking in the afternoon, and returning by bus in the evening is the most reliable plan. What to wear: waterproof hiking shoes + light down jacket + windbreaker. In April, the Renon plateau is about 10–15°C during the day with large temperature differences between morning and night. The temperature difference inside the cable car is about 8°C. Even in summer, bring a light jacket. Language note: In Bolzano city, you hear Italian, but once you enter the mountain villages, German signs and greetings become the norm — South Tyrol is the only area in Italy where German is the daily language. Your cable car + train trip from Bolzano to Longostagno is actually a "crossing" from Italian into the Austrian cultural sphere. 🏔️📜 By the way: why is this "German-speaking Italy"? Geography: The Dolomites are located in South Tyrol on the southern slope of the Alps. The Renon plateau averages over 1,000 meters in elevation and is a microcosm of "Bolzano’s backyard" — alpine meadows, pastures, vineyards, and mountain towns sharply contrast with the surrounding towering Dolomites peaks. History: Before World War I, South Tyrol belonged to Austria, with a predominantly German-speaking population. After the war, the eastern mountainous part of South Tyrol was officially assigned to Italy under the Treaty of Saint-Germain. Italy was granted Trentino and South Tyrol. The fascist regime then aggressively pushed Italianization — in 1928, the Italian name "Alto Adige" was mandated, and in the 1930s, German language education was restricted. The German-speaking population dropped from 90% in 1918 to 70% in 1930. Today, South Tyrol (officially the Autonomous Province of Bolzano–South Tyrol) is the only area in Italy where German is the daily language — the English-speaking local you met in Longostagno likely has grandparents who considered themselves Austrian their whole lives. Culture: South Tyrol preserves Austro-Hungarian mountain culture — bright yellow churches, German village names, Sunday mass, Speck smoked ham, Canederli bread dumplings, Apfelstrudel apple strudel. Walking through the empty village of Longostagno, you feel a cultural dissonance: on the map, it’s Italy; your ears hear German; your eyes see an Austrian-style mountain village. World War I memory: The Dolomites were the core battlefield of the "White War" (1915–1918). Austria-Hungary and Italy faced off along three sharp mountain ridges, fighting for three years on rocky peaks at 2,900 meters elevation. The tunnels, trenches, and steel cables left in the mountains today form the "world’s best-preserved open-air World War I Alpine museum." The Collalbo → Longostagno hiking trail you walk on may have been the route soldiers used to transport supplies a century ago. So when you come to Renon in early April, you’re not just "sightseeing" — the cable car pulls you from the Italian-speaking area into the German-speaking area, the earth pyramids remind you that glaciers are the true masters here, the empty village + church mass in Longostagno lets you encounter South Tyrol’s real heartbeat, and the countryside bus on the way back is the farewell gift from this "German-speaking island in Italy." 🚠🥾 🔱 Check in at the world’s most beautiful destinations 🔱

Merano completely surprised me. Nestled between snow covered mountains and surrounded by vineyards, this elegant town feels like a blend of Italy and Austria. The historic center is filled with colorful buildings, cozy cafés, boutique shops, and beautiful riverside promenades that become even more magical during winter. If you’re visiting between late November and early January, don’t miss the Merano Christmas Market. Wooden chalets line the Passer River, serving local specialties like mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, speck, and freshly baked pastries. The atmosphere is festive without feeling overwhelming, making it one of the most enjoyable Christmas markets in northern Italy. Take time to stroll beneath the famous arcades (Laubengasse), cross the scenic bridges over the Passer River, and admire the surrounding snow capped peaks. If you have a few extra hours, relax at the Terme Merano, where you can enjoy warm outdoor pools with incredible mountain views, even on a cold winter day. Merano is also an excellent base for exploring South Tyrol, with easy access to nearby ski resorts, mountain villages, and scenic drives through the Alps. 🇮🇹 Funes Valley|Early Summer in the Dolomites, with the Geisler Peaks right outside your window ⏳ Recommended duration: 2-3 days (highlights tour) / 4-5 days (including Seceda and Alpe di Siusi in-depth version) 💡 Why visit: Early June in Funes Valley is, as you said, "truly beautiful." The lush green meadows, jagged Geisler Peaks, and two secluded churches together create the most classic postcard scene of the Dolomites. Unlike the crowded Seceda, this valley is perfect for staying a few nights to fully enjoy the tranquility and peace—open your window and the Geisler Peaks are right there; the view outside is already the best gift. 🚗 How to get there? Transportation and parking Self-driving (highly recommended): Funes Valley is located in South Tyrol, northern Italy, part of the Dolomites. It’s about a 45-minute drive from Bolzano or Ortisei. Driving is the most flexible way to explore the valley. · 🅿️ Parking recommendation: Navigate to Parkplatz Filler parking lot, conveniently located near the main attractions. Parking fee is €10/day, payment by card or coins at self-service machines; printed ticket must be displayed prominently on the front windshield. ⚠️ The payment machine interface may not be very intuitive, so prepare some change. · Other options: About 12 free parking spots near St. John’s Church. There are also some private parking lots within the valley. 🚌 Public transport (non-driving option): From Bressanone/Brixen train or bus station, take bus 330 or 331, about 45 minutes to the center of the valley at Santa Maddalena village. Buses run roughly once an hour. A short walk from the stop leads to the viewpoints. It’s recommended to download the Südtirol Mobil App for real-time schedules. ⚠️ Special reminder for 2026: During peak season, roads to Santa Maddalena may be closed during visitor rush hours. Arrive early to secure a good parking spot and enjoy the valley’s calm at a relaxed pace. 🏠 Where to stay? Accommodation recommendations Staying a few nights in Santa Magdalena is a great choice, as the view outside your window is the best scenery itself. · Magdalenablick Guesthouse: Located in Santa Magdalena, offers alpine-style mountain view self-catering apartments with kitchenettes and lounge areas, about 2 km from Funes, with free on-site parking. · Hotel Fines: Located in Funes, features a garden, terrace, and free private parking; the restaurant serves Italian and Austrian cuisine. · Villa Messner: A mountain-view guesthouse popular with visitors. · Hotel Kabis: Located in Funes Valley, with a traditional restaurant, free wellness center, and peaceful garden; free outdoor parking available. ⚠️ Accommodation options in the valley are limited; early booking is advised during peak season. 🏔️ What to do? Key attractions and photo spots 1. St. John’s Church (Chiesetta di San Giovanni in Ranui): The most famous “lonely church” in Funes Valley. This Baroque chapel, built in 1744, stands alone on lush green meadows with the jagged Geisler Peaks as a backdrop. · 📸 Photo spots: There is a fence around the church; the best photo spot is on the viewing platform outside the fence. Another classic viewpoint is about a 1-minute walk along the road. Afternoon visits are recommended for front lighting; the “Alpenglow” at sunset is especially stunning, turning the peaks red-orange. · 💰 Fees: A €5 per person fee applies to the church surroundings. Additional fee for interior visits. 2. Santa Maddalena Church (Chiesetta di Santa Maddalena): Located on a green hill above Santa Maddalena village, built in 1492. You need to hike up a trail to the viewpoint to capture the classic shot of the church with the Geisler Peaks. The best photo spot is the viewpoint above the village for a cleaner frame. 3. Adolf Munkel Weg Trail: The valley’s most famous hiking route. Starting near Ranui Church, the 3-4 hour moderate trail offers close-up views of the magnificent Odle group peaks. 4. Zannes Alpine Pastures Circuit: Starting at Zannes parking lot, about 2.5 hours, passing alpine huts, cattle, and stunning panoramic views. 🗺️ How to plan? Itinerary suggestions 2 days 1 night highlights: · Day 1: Arrive in the afternoon, check in at Santa Magdalena, head to St. John’s Church viewpoint at dusk to catch the “Alpenglow” sunset. · Day 2: Morning visit to Santa Maddalena Church viewpoint for postcard-perfect photos. Afternoon for an easy hike or return trip. 3 days 2 nights in-depth: · Day 1: Arrive and check in, photograph St. John’s Church sunset. · Day 2: Morning hike Adolf Munkel Weg (3-4 hours), afternoon visit Santa Maddalena Church viewpoint. · Day 3: Morning drive to Ortisei, take the cable car up Seceda (round trip about €32, combo ticket €65 offers better value). Return in the afternoon. 👕 What to wear? Weather and clothing · Weather: June temperatures are comfortable, around 15-22°C during the day. June to September is the golden season, daytime 15-25°C, cable cars fully open, alpine meadows blooming with wildflowers. · Clothing advice: Layered “onion” style—T-shirt base layer, thin down jacket mid-layer, windproof outer layer. Comfortable hiking shoes are a must. 🧾 Practical tips|Every word counts · Lighting: The valley is backlit in the morning; afternoon is best for photography. Golden hour for sunset is roughly 17:30-19:30. · Parking: Parking spaces are tight in peak season; arrive early. Self-service machines may be confusing; bring change. · Respect: The church surroundings are mostly private land; do not enter freely. Please use designated viewing platforms for photos. · Accommodation: Limited options in the valley; book early in peak season. · Transport: Non-drivers can take bus 330/331 from Bressanone, about 45 minutes direct. 🌅 Summer in Funes Valley is the breeze over the meadows, the sunset behind church spires, and the Geisler Peaks visible right outside your window. Some scenery photos can only capture half the story—the other half you have to experience yourself. 💬 Have you been to Funes Valley? Was it the sunset at the lonely church or the hike on Adolf Munkel Weg that moved you most? Feel free to share your Dolomites memories in the comments below~

You haven't truly visited the Dolomites until you've laid eyes on this church. When the exquisite little Church of St. Johann in Ranui (Pic 1) stands all alone on an endless green meadow against the razor-sharp backdrop of the Odle peaks, the awe of that moment is simply beyond words. 🌫️ The Looming Sacred Peaks (Pic 2): As the camera slowly zooms in, the rugged crags behind play hide-and-seek in the mist. The biggest surprise? The peaks are still dusted with a thin layer of snow! This frosty, sacred vibe makes it feel like a portal to another realm. 🏔️ ⛪️ A Lonely Vigil on the Meadow: The church's delicate onion dome creates a striking contrast with the rugged, raw rocks towering behind it. Standing right here, breathing in the purest mountain air, you can truly feel the millions of years of natural serenity. 🍎 Simple Joys in the Valley: Beyond these awe-inspiring epic views, the little streets of Val di Funes are also packed with sweet surprises. It's this everyday, down-to-earth charm blending seamlessly with the majestic peaks that makes the Dolomites so incredibly captivating. 🌼 It's more than just a beautiful landscape; it's a profound force that brings peace to your soul. 📍 St. Johann in Ranui, Val di Funes, Italy

When visiting the Dolomites, Lago di Carezza is an absolute must-visit pilgrimage site. We opted for a leisurely stroll along the lakeside trail, unlocking the unique beauty of this "Eye of the Alps" from every possible angle. 🚶‍♂️ 🏔️ 360-Degree Mountain and Lake Masterpiece: As we walked, the reflection of the majestic Latemar mountain range on the lake shifted with every step. The water boasts a striking blend of milky blue and emerald green (Pic 1), so crystal clear that ancient tree trunks resting at the bottom are perfectly visible. When the sunlight breaks through the clouds and hits the Dolomite peaks, the lake truly looks like a glowing, iridescent gemstone. 🌈 🧜‍♀️ The Legend of the Water Nymph: While circling the lake, don't forget to hold your breath and gaze into those transparent emerald depths. Deep underwater stands the legendary statue of the water nymph (Pic 2). Legend has it that the lake gained its vibrant hues when a sorcerer shattered a rainbow into the water. Though the nymph eventually vanished into the depths, her mystical aura still shrouds the entire lake. ✨ 🌲 Soul-Stirring Coniferous Woods: Making our way to the far side of the lake, we ventured into the towering coniferous forest that stands guard over the water. The scent of pine drifted on the gentle breeze, while dappled sunlight danced across the woodland trail. Romance in the woods: Pausing at the forest's edge to look back, we were greeted by a backdrop of rugged peaks and the jewel-like lake. My wife sat on the wooden fence—a scene where the sheer grandeur of nature and the serene quiet of the forest seamlessly intertwined (Pic 5), exuding a premium, cinematic feel. 💑 Hand-in-hand stroll: Hand in hand, my wife and I wandered slowly through the dense pines (Pic 7). In the Dolomites, the most breathtaking scenery isn't just the mountains and the lakes; it's the moments spent getting lost in the woods with the one you love. A walk around Lago di Carezza is an absolute visual feast of vivid colors, enchanting legends, and whispering forests. 📍 Lago di Carezza, Dolomites, Italy
