🇹🇭🇲🇾 Padang Besar, usually called Padang or P.B. by locals, means "big field" in Malay. It is a border town in Perlis, northern Malaysia, bordering Songkhla Province in southern Thailand, 35 km from Kangar (the capital of Perlis) and 57 km from Hat Yai. As a border town, the Malaysian part is called Padang Besar, and the Thai part is called Pekan Siam or Siamese Town.
Due to the duty-free shopping center at the border checkpoint, this town is known as a "shopping paradise" and tourist destination for Malaysians, attracting thousands of tourists from Perlis and southern Thailand every weekend and public holiday.
🚄 Padang Besar Port in Malaysia is the port where you can take a train to Thailand 🇹🇭:
This train line can take you all the way to Bangkok, then to Laos, and back to China!

Padang Besar Railway Station, Malaysia side
Padang Besar Railway Station is where we got off the train from the Thai side to the Malaysian side to travel to Butterworth Railway Station to continue on to the boat to Penang. The train fare is very cheap at only 12 Riyals or about 100 baht. The train ride is about 2 and a half hours. The train is clean, comfortable and on time. #Travel by train #Travel abroad #Travel to Penang

Padang Besar connects Thailand and Malaysia by rail
#GetDiscountNotRelyingOnLuck Padang Besar Railway Station is a station located in Malaysia, adjacent to the Thai-Malaysian border.
This station is used as a connecting point for travel between Thailand and Malaysia. You can travel by train by changing trains and checking immigration and going through customs at this station from both Thailand and Malaysia.
For me, I traveled from Kl.sentra. Kuala Lumpur by Malaysian train at 10.41 am (9.41 am Thai time) and arrived at Padang Besar Station at 5.00 pm (4.00 pm Thai time). I went through immigration and customs on both the Malaysian and Thai sides to connect to the Thai train that would leave Padang at 5.00 pm Thai time, passing Hat Yai, Phatthalung, Thung Song, and sleeping all night until waking up in Ratchaburi. The train took less than 24 hours to travel from and arrived at Bangkok Central Station at 9.00 am.
This was another experience of traveling by train across countries :)

How to travel from Hat Yai to Penang by train
#100TravelTips This trip was not what I planned from the beginning, but since the day I finished cheering for football at Tinsulanond Stadium, I could not book a return flight ticket because it was 5 times more expensive than usual, so I had to resort to a new method, which was to take a return flight from Penang, which was very cheap at only 1,000 baht. So I made a special trip by taking the train from Hat Yai Railway Station to Padang Besar, buying a ticket at the station for only 50 baht. When I arrived at Padang Besar Railway Station on the Malaysian side, I was able to stamp my passport and the station. There were both Thai and Malaysian immigration offices next to each other. After the immigration check, I went up to the 2nd floor of Padang Besar Station. At that point, there was a Malaysian train ticket booth where you can pay with a credit card or debit card at the machine. The rest can be paid in cash at the counter or you can buy it on the KTMB website because there is a clear mobile signal from Thailand at that point. If you take the train from Hat Yai at 8:55, the train from Padang Besar to Butterworth will be at around 12:35 Malaysian time. At that time, we still had about an hour, so we could eat at the station. There was a shop where we could scan our TrueMoney Wallet. When it was almost time, we scanned our tickets at the check-in point, similar to the BTS in Thailand. Then we walked down the stairs to the platform to board the train. The train was air-conditioned and the seats were soft like bus seats. It took about 2 hours to travel from Padang Besar to Butterworth. When we arrived at Butterworth Station, we walked up to the 2nd floor of the station. There was a sign that led us to the ferry pier to enter Penang. The ferry ticket counter does not accept cash, but you can scan your TrueMoney Wallet. Or if you have a credit or debit card, you can use it. The ferry runs every 20-30 minutes. Inside the waiting building, there is free WiFi and charging ports for tourists.

Train Trip from Malaysia to Thailand
When you trip from Malaysia to Thailand, which transportation do you take?
Air plane is the fastest and comfortable, the car is convenient. Train should be the most difficult way but it is much more interesting. I would like to recommend train Trip.
☑️ Butterworth to Padang Besar
Take the morning train from Butterworth to Padang Besar. The train is from KL, you can take the train from KL.
The air conditioner in the train is very cold. It is better to wear your jacket.
When you arrive at Padang Besar station, buy the ticket for Thai national railway from Padang Besar to Hatyai.
Padang Besar station is located in Malaysia but all the passenger shall pass the immigration before taking the train.
Immigration opens when the train comes and the train usually comes late.
☑️Padang Besar to Hatyai
Thai national railway does not have the air conditioner but fans. You can open the window and enjoy the fresh air and sound.
When you cross the border, the atmosphere and view suddenly change from palm tree to farm.
When you arrive at Hatyai station, you can enjoy Thai foods, massage, etc.
Hatyai is 3rd biggest city of Thailand but still silent and calm.

It's very easy to go to Malaysia.
Because I wanted to travel to Malaysia alone, I chose to travel by train from Hat Yai Station to Padang Besar Station and get off at the passport checkpoint before crossing to the Malaysian side to board the very modern and developed Malaysian train. At that time, I chose to go on a day trip and bought a train ticket from Padang Besar Station on the Malaysian side to Arau Station. Arau is a very peaceful city. I don't know if I went during a holiday or not because the city is peaceful and there are very few cars. The food is very cheap and delicious.

Padang Besar's Bazaar is heaven sent with goods ranging from traditional to the high-end market.
Great place to get great Thai snacks and shopping for cheap stuff, like t-shirts, shorts and souvenirs.
Make sure you bargain!

Crossing international border 🇹🇭🇲🇾
Everyone can experience to cross the international border easily between Thailand🇹🇭 and Malaysia🇲🇾.
By a car, bus and even railway !!😳😗😊
The easiest way to do it is using railway from
Hat Yai station (Hat yai is the largest gateway city from Malaysia in the southern part of Thailand) or Padang Besar (Thai)station. 🚉 Train brings us to Padang Besar (Malaysia) station. (From Padang Besar Thai to Padan Besar Malaysia, it only takes 2 minutes.)
In Thai side, there is nothing to be checked except for showing passport at the time of buying a ticket.
After arriving at Padan Besar (Malaysia), both immigration procedures is to be done. (exit control and entrance control)
After entering to Malaysia, people can use intercity trains to Penang island (Butterworth), Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.
On the other hand, at another border from Bukit KayuHitam 🇲🇾 to Sadao 🇹🇭, people can enjoy duty free shopping. (From Sadao 〈Dannok〉, easy to do instant cross border 〈leaving and re-entering〉 experience on foot ! ) .
However, just be noted one has to check and know his / her own requirements !
