Bena Traditional Village, Flores
#wecreate
One of the well-preserved traditional villages in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It's an mazing traditional thatched village of Ngada people. The form of the village and the architecture of the houses are still preserved.
This village gives a good idea of how local tribes lived in the past. These homes are still used regularly for ceremonies. It’s not only a picturesque setting, but one that is cherished by regional inhabitants.

The road to traditional village
The beautiful province of Bajawa offers you so many places to have a fun road trip to. Of course, road trip doesn’t mean it’s only by car, because for this one, we rented a motorbike to have a memorable road trip like this one. To get to this traditional village from Bajawa center, it would take you around 1-2 hours. Along the way, you would be able to see the highest mountain in the area, go pass some road full of bamboo on its sides, until you finally reach the place where you can enjoy and take pictures! #roadtrip #urbanexplorer #indonesia #mountainview

Flores Island Wall Art: A Colorful Tribute to Local Culture 🎨🐉🌱
#celebrateit #flores #wallart
During my travels through Flores, I stumbled upon a striking wall mural that beautifully captures the essence of this incredible island. The vibrant colors and intricate details immediately grabbed my attention. It’s like the entire spirit of Flores was brought to life on one wall. The mural showcases iconic elements of the island’s identity—the Komodo dragon, native birds, and local houses, all tied together with a nod to the island’s famous coffee.
What truly stands out is how the artist managed to weave together the natural and cultural landmarks in such a harmonious way. The Komodo dragon, as majestic as it is feared, takes center stage, surrounded by birds that reflect the region’s rich wildlife. Nearby, the traditional houses represent the warmth and resilience of the local people. And of course, the coffee elements bring you back to the island’s rich agricultural traditions. ☕🐾
I absolutely love how this artwork brings together nature, culture, and history in such a dynamic and colorful way. It’s a true reflection of everything that makes Flores so special. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re visiting—it’s the perfect snapshot of island life!

Welcome to Flores: Where Traditional Houses Tell a Story 🏡🌿
#celebrateit #flores
You know you’ve arrived in Flores when the landscape shifts from lush green hills to villages dotted with unique, traditional houses. Unlike the uniform buildings of modern cities, Flores’ homes reflect the island’s deep cultural roots, each structure carrying the legacy of its indigenous communities.
A Land of Diverse Traditions
Flores, part of Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province, is home to several ethnic groups, each with its own distinct architecture. From the pyramid-shaped Mbaru Niang houses of the Manggarai people to the elevated wooden homes of the Ngada tribe, every structure serves a purpose beyond just shelter—it represents heritage, spirituality, and community life.
Mbaru Niang: The Iconic Cone-Shaped Houses
One of the most famous traditional houses in Flores is the Mbaru Niang of Wae Rebo village. These tall, conical houses are built entirely from natural materials like bamboo, wood, and thatch. The design isn’t just for aesthetics—it helps protect against heavy rains and strong winds. Inside, multiple families often share a single house, with different levels designated for specific purposes, from sleeping areas to sacred storage spaces.
Ngada Houses: Symbols of Ancestors
In the Ngada region, especially in Bena and Gurusina villages, traditional houses feature intricate carvings and sacred objects on their rooftops. These symbols represent their ancestors, reinforcing the strong spiritual connection the Ngada people have with their past.
Why You Should Visit
Exploring these villages feels like stepping into a living museum. The warmth of the locals, the stunning natural backdrop, and the chance to witness centuries-old traditions make Flores an unforgettable destination. If you want more than just beaches and waterfalls, take time to appreciate the history woven into these homes—you won’t regret it. 🏕️✨

Martabak Break in Flores: A Sweet (or Savory) Surprise! 🥞✨
#celebrateit #sweettreats #Localtreat #flores
Driving through Flores Island, I stumbled upon a tiny roadside shop selling martabak, and let me tell you—it was impossible to resist! This popular Indonesian treat comes in two varieties: martabak manis (sweet) and martabak telur (savory). Both are delicious, but if you have a sweet tooth, you’re in for a real treat. 🍫🧀
Martabak manis is a thick, fluffy pancake stuffed with all sorts of fillings—chocolate, cheese, condensed milk, peanuts, or even a mix of everything! It’s buttery, gooey, and just the right amount of indulgent. On the other hand, martabak telur is crispy, stuffed with eggs, minced meat, and spices, perfect if you’re craving something savory. 🌯🔥
Sitting there with a hot slice, watching daily life unfold in Flores, made the moment even better. These little roadside stops aren’t just about food; they’re about slowing down and enjoying the simple things. If you ever see a small martabak stand while traveling in Indonesia—stop. You won’t regret it! 🚗💛

Driving through the countryside outside Reo is like stepping into a postcard of traditional Flores. The landscape is dominated by vast rice fields, their bright green color shifting with the light. Farmers wade through the paddies, carefully tending to their crops, while water buffaloes lazily roam nearby. Life here moves with the rhythm of nature, and it’s a beautiful thing to witness. 🌿☀️
Along the roadside, small wooden houses with tin roofs sit among banana trees and coconut palms. Children wave as you pass, playing barefoot in the dirt, their laughter carrying through the air. You’ll see women balancing baskets on their heads, carrying fresh vegetables or firewood, while men gather in the shade, chatting about the day’s work. 🍌🏡
The road itself is quiet, except for the occasional motorbike or truck transporting harvested rice. Every so often, a roadside stall appears, selling fried snacks, bottled drinks, and fresh fruit—perfect for a quick stop to stretch your legs and soak in the atmosphere.

Flores Island, known for its stunning landscapes and untouched nature, is home to some incredible waterfalls perfect for a refreshing swim. If you’re looking to cool off while surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic rock formations, here are three must-visit spots:
1. Cunca Wulang Waterfall 🌿🏊
Located about an hour from Labuan Bajo, Cunca Wulang is often compared to a mini Grand Canyon with its narrow gorges and deep turquoise pools. The trek through the jungle is an adventure on its own, but the real reward is jumping into the crystal-clear water below the falls. For those who love cliff jumping, this spot is perfect!
2. Cunca Rami Waterfall 🌊✨
This multi-tiered waterfall is another fantastic option near Labuan Bajo. The large, natural pool at its base is perfect for a long, relaxing swim. My Visit to Manik Cafe: A Perfect Stop in Liang Ndara ☕🌿
#celebrateit #Manikcafe #Floresroadtrip
Driving through Liang Ndara, Sano Nggoang, I wasn’t expecting to stumble upon a cozy little café, but Manik Cafe turned out to be exactly what I needed—a quiet spot with good coffee, fresh air, and a view that made me want to stay all day.
A Café with a View 🌄
The first thing I noticed when I arrived was how peaceful it felt. The café sits among rolling hills, with big windows letting in the breeze and the scent of fresh coffee. Inside, the decor had a simple, local touch—nothing fancy, but warm and inviting.
Coffee and Simple Comforts ☕🍽️
I ordered a cup of locally sourced coffee, and it didn’t disappoint—strong, rich, and perfect after a long drive. The menu had a few traditional snacks and light meals, enough to keep me happy while I sat back and enjoyed the view.
Why I’d Go Back 🚗✨
What I loved most about Manik Cafe was the quiet, unhurried atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you stop for a quick break but end up staying longer than planned. If you’re passing through West Manggarai Regency, I’d definitely recommend making a stop. Sometimes, the best places are the ones you find by accident.

Through the Market Chaos of Cancar 🚗🐔
#celebrateit #Cancar
One minute, you’re driving through peaceful countryside—then suddenly, Cancar’s market appears, buzzing with energy. The road tightens as stalls crowd the edges, packed with fresh vegetables, spices, and today’s best catch. Silver-scaled fish glisten on tables, while live chickens sit in woven baskets, occasionally flapping in protest. 🐟🐔
The air is thick with the scent of grilled corn, dried fish, and the earthy aroma of fresh produce. Motorbikes weave through impossibly tight gaps, and trucks loaded with goods honk their way through, trying to squeeze past shoppers deep in negotiations. 🚛🔊
It’s chaotic, loud, and full of life. Driving through, you can’t help but admire the rhythm of it all—everyone has their place, their routine, their unspoken rules of movement. It’s not just a market; it’s the pulse of the town. And even if you don’t stop, the experience stays with you long after you’ve driven through. 🚗✨

Unveiling Flores' Secrets: A Breathtaking Adventure
#indonesiatrip
I embarked on an extraordinary journey to Flores, Indonesia, and uncovered its hidden treasures. From the mesmerizing 3-colored lake at Kelimutu National Park to the ancient village of Waerebo, perched 1200 meters above sea level, every moment was a revelation.
The 3-day sailing trip on the Andalusia ship was a highlight, with snorkeling in Kanawa Island's crystal-clear waters and witnessing the sunrise on Padar Island – a truly surreal experience. The rugged terrain and narrow roads made for a thrilling adventure, and the warm hospitality of the locals made it unforgettable.
