The most low-key city in Hebei | Xingtai Bianque Temple.
Bianque Temple is located at the foot of Que Mountain, 26 kilometers west of Neiqiu County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province. It was first built during the Warring States period and has been renovated throughout the dynasties. It is an ancient architectural complex dedicated to Bianque, the ancestor of Chinese medicine. Bianque Temple is the oldest, largest and best-preserved Bianque Temple complex in China.
The main attractions of Bianque Temple include Bianque Hall, Bianque Tomb, Lingbi Stele, Resurgence Bridge, Nine Dragon Cypress, Ancient Stele Corridor, Three Purities Hall, Han Dynasty Divine Beasts, and more than 100 steles from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
Bianque (407 BC - 310 BC), originally named Qin Yueren, was from Danxian County, Bohai Commandery (present-day Renqiu City, Hebei Province). He was a physician during the Warring States period and the founder of pulse diagnosis in Chinese medicine. The idioms "妙手回春" (miraculous cure), "起死回生" (bring back to life), "病入膏肓" (incurable disease), and "讳疾忌医" (conceal illness and avoid treatment) are all related to Bianque.
1⃣️ Bianque Temple, also known as Bianque Shrine, is located in Shentou Village, 26 kilometers west of Neiqiu County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province. It was first built during the Warring States period and has been renovated throughout the dynasties. It is an ancient architectural complex dedicated to Bianque, the ancestor of Chinese medicine. The temple is built on a mountain, with two ridges flanking it on either side. The Nine Dragon River flows through the temple, covering a total area of 150,000 square meters.
2⃣️ Bianque Temple is the oldest, largest and best-preserved Bianque Temple complex in China. The temple features towering ancient cypress trees, scattered buildings, and numerous steles. The eight main attractions of Bianque Temple are Bianque Hall, Bianque Tomb, Lingbi Stele, Resurgence Bridge, Nine Dragon Cypress, Ancient Stele Corridor, Three Purities Hall, and Han Dynasty Divine Beasts. These attractions are rich in historical and cultural significance. There are more than 100 steles from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Among them, the "Lingbi Stele" is the best-preserved. It is an important physical material for studying Bianque's中医culture and the development history of Chinese medicine.
3⃣️ The courtyard of Bianque Temple is filled with towering cypress trees. The most common roof types are hip-and-gable roof, gable roof, hard-gable roof, hip roof, and barrel vault roof. The various complex shapes formed by the combination of these roof types demonstrate the ancient craftsmen's mastery of wood structure. They created roofs with upturned eaves and corners, resembling the outstretched wings of a bird. The curves of the roof and its various parts are gentle and graceful.

The buildings are constructed according to the mountain's contours, with the central axis distributed symmetrically. The scenery is unique and distinctive.
5⃣️ The Nine Dragon Stone Cypress trees grow on the hillside south of the Resurgence Bridge. The nine ancient cypress trees, rooted in the crevices of the rocks and integrated with the mountain stones, have a history of over 2,000 years. They all belong to the Han cypress species.

The Han Mountain in the poem "A steep path leads to Han Mountain in the distance".
The Han Mountain Scenic Area is located in the central and southern section of the Taihang Mountains, in Houjiazhuang Township, Neiqiu County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province. It is 70 kilometers east of Neiqiu County and 65 kilometers southeast of Xingtai City. The area is conveniently located, with the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, National Highway 107, and the Beijing-Shenzhen Expressway running north-south. The Longxi (Longyao to Xiyang) Provincial Highway runs east-west. The Han Mountain Scenic Area is bordered by the Hebei-Shanxi provincial border to the west and Xiyang County, Shanxi Province, and extends east to Liuzuo Ping in Xingjiayu Village, south to the Pingtoupu Village boundary, and north to Xingyu Village. The area covers 15 square kilometers. The main peak of the scenic area, Han Mountain, has an altitude of 1806.3 meters and is one of the highest peaks in the Taihang Mountain section of Xingtai City. In terms of the earth's structure, the scenic area is located in the southwestern part of the Taihang Mountain Zanhuang Uplift. After a long period of geological changes and the long-term cutting and differential weathering of surface water, the red quartz sandstone of the Proterozoic Great Wall System is widely exposed, forming four terraced zongshi rock landforms, which are locally known as "stacks". The cliffs between the stacks are 100-200 meters high. From bottom to top, there are four stacks: the bottom stack, the second stack, the third stack, and the top stack. Above the third stack, the mountain is composed of Cambrian limestone from the Paleozoic Era. From a distance, the red cliffs and peaks are like swords, towering into the sky, presenting a spectacular sight.

The red cliffs and Danxia landforms of the eastern Taihang Mountains, with the beautiful 'person' inverted at Jingniang Lake!
I've been out of Beijing and in the land of Yan Zhao for several days now, wandering through the ancient cities and relics in the long river of history. Today, I returned to reality and took a tour around the mountains and waters near Handan, including the eastern Taihang Mountains and Jingniang Lake scenic area.
The eastern Taihang Mountains and Jingniang Lake are not far from each other, both located within the territory of Wu'an City in Handan. The eastern Taihang Mountains are named for their location on the eastern foothills of the Taihang Mountain range and share the Danxia landform with the Grand Canyon in the United States. The slopes on the east and west sides of this area are relatively gentle, while the north and south are steep. The mountain ridge rises from south to north, with the peak of Sengshan on the north side reaching an altitude of 1428.2 meters. Streams on both sides flow down the mountain, embracing each other and converging into Jingniang Lake.
Jingniang Lake, also known as the Koushang Reservoir, is known as the 'Three Gorges of Taihang' and the 'Heavenly Pool of North China'. According to historical records, the story of Zhao Kuangyin sending Jingniang a thousand miles took place in this area, hence the name. The scenic area is connected to Xianling Gorge in the east and Jingniang Gorge in the west, where two clear streams flow like a beautiful 'person' standing upside down, forming a high gorge and a flat lake!
