Mosfellsdalur travel guide and discussion

The Golden Circle is a captivating 300-kilometer (190-mile) route in southern Iceland, encompassing some of the country's most stunning natural wonders and historical landmarks. Here's a glimpse of the must-see spots along this iconic trail: 📍Þingvellir National Park (Thingvellir): A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Þingvellir is a geological marvel where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet and drift apart. This dramatic rift valley is not only visually striking but also historically significant. It was here that the Alþingi, the world's oldest parliament, was established in 930 AD. Explore the Almannagjá gorge, witness the Law Rock where the lawspeaker recited the law, and delve into Iceland's rich heritage. 📍Geysir Geothermal Area: This geothermal wonderland is home to a multitude of geysers, hot springs, and bubbling mud pools. The star of the show is Strokkur, a geyser that erupts every few minutes, shooting a column of hot water high into the air. Wander through the otherworldly landscape, marvel at the raw power of nature, and capture unforgettable photos of Strokkur's eruptions. 📍Gullfoss Waterfall: A majestic waterfall on the Hvítá River, Gullfoss plunges down two tiers into a rugged canyon. The sheer volume of water cascading down this "Golden Waterfall" is awe-inspiring. Take in the breathtaking views from various vantage points, feel the mist on your face, and witness the raw power of Icelandic waterfalls. Beyond the main stops: 📍Kerið Crater: A striking volcanic crater lake with vivid blue waters, Kerið offers a picturesque setting for a leisurely stroll and photo opportunities. 📍Secret Lagoon: A more secluded and intimate geothermal pool compared to the popular Blue Lagoon, the Secret Lagoon provides a relaxing soak amidst natural surroundings. 📍Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal Baths: Another excellent option for unwinding in geothermal waters, Laugarvatn Fontana offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The Golden Circle is a journey through Iceland's captivating landscapes, where you can witness the forces of nature, delve into history, and immerse yourself in the country's unique culture. #outdooradventure

11-Day Norway, Iceland, and Denmark Trip Cost Breakdown Here's a breakdown of my trip to the three most popular Nordic countries during the Lunar New Year. First, I should mention that I went with a friend, so the prices are split between the two of us. I consider myself to be quite frugal, so we stayed in hostels and shared rooms in all three countries, trying not to waste a single penny. 1️⃣✈💰CNY 9,625 for three countries. We went during the 2025 Lunar New Year, but booked in May 2024. The price of flights doubled after that, so we saved CNY 6,000–7,000. 🎫 I recommend booking flights to European countries in advance. It's actually cheaper to travel abroad during the Lunar New Year. The flights to these three countries were quite cheap. 2️⃣Hotels 🏨 I mostly booked hostels or budget hotels, which cost around CNY 100 per person per day. The prices in the photos are for two people, so divide by two. I shared a room with a few friends in Iceland, which cost CNY 500 per person per day. We could also cook together, which saved us some money on food. Iceland > Norway > Denmark. Any room in Iceland costs over CNY 1,000, and they're very small. I highly recommend the Fossil Hotel, which is right outside Stop 12. All the tours meet here, so it's very convenient and not expensive. 3️⃣Food + transportation, CNY 500 per person per day. Prices are highest in Iceland and Norway. Prices in Denmark are about the same as in China. We spent over CNY 1,000 on food every day. A taxi ride in Norway costs CNY 500, so try to use public transportation as much as possible. Public transportation is free for locals in Norway. 🆓 We took the bus a few times and no one checked our tickets. 4️⃣Tours. The most expensive part of the trip was the one- and two-day tours. The whale 🐳 tour cost CNY 2,000, and the two-day glacier lake tour cost CNY 4,000. Other one-day tours cost several hundred, such as the aurora, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and Golden Circle tours. We spent over CNY 20,000 on fixed costs before we even left for Northern Europe. Once we got there, we could only eat expensive Western food every day. I regret not bringing instant noodles. Luckily, we cooked with our friends at the hostel in Iceland. The smoke alarm even went off. We roasted chicken and lamb ourselves. Chinese food is the best. We spent a total of CNY 27,000. Compared to the CNY 50,000–100,000 trips to Iceland I saw online, I think I did a good job saving money.

I hope it can help everyone. Of course, if you haven’t sorted it out, you are welcome to add it~ 1️⃣Consumption in Iceland is very high, 💰The currency is measured in Icelandic krona (1000 Icelandic krona ≈ 48 yuan) 2️⃣ Iceland is a Schengen country, so apply for a Schengen visa (2-3 months in advance) 3️⃣ You don’t need to bring any cash in Iceland💰, you can basically pay by credit card 4️⃣ Keep a certain distance from the black sand beach and don’t get too close to the sea. After all, there have been precedents of being swept away by waves. 5️⃣ In Iceland, only Reykjavik has public transportation, not other places, so you can travel by yourself or in a group 6️⃣ You can fly drones in Iceland, but you need to know in advance which areas you can fly. 7️⃣ Icelanders speak Icelandic, but most of them can speak English, so communication is still very convenient. If your English is not good, you can use translation software 8️⃣ You need to prepare a waterproof and windproof jacket when going to Iceland. It’s windy outside in winter, so wear thicker clothes to keep warm. 9️⃣ Hotels in Iceland do not provide toiletries, so remember to bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, slippers, etc. 1️⃣0️⃣ The whole of Iceland is located in the aurora belt. It is sunny during the day and you can basically see the aurora at night. 1️⃣1️⃣ The tap water in Iceland can be drank directly. There is no hot water. If you want to drink hot water, you can prepare a folding kettle. 1️⃣2️⃣ Stores in Iceland will only open at noon, so prepare some instant noodles, biscuits, bread, etc. in advance for backup itinerary Day1: Reykjavik-Golden Circle-Vic Day2: Vik – Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon – Blue Ice Cave – Vik Day3: Vic—South Coast Scenery—Reykjavik Day4: Reykjavik—Snaefellsnes—Reykjavik Icelandic specialties ✔️Icelandic Lamb Soup ✔️Icelandic yogurt ✔️Iceland hot dog

#outdooradventures My outdoor adventure along Iceland's Golden Circle was unforgettable! 🗺️ Starting in Reykjavík, we set off on a road trip to explore some of the most stunning natural wonders the country has to offer. First stop: Thingvellir National Park, where I walked between tectonic plates – such a surreal experience! The entrance is free, and the views of the rift valley are breathtaking. Next up was Geysir, home to Iceland’s famous erupting hot springs. Watching Strokkur spout boiling water into the air every few minutes was so exciting! 🌋 Then we headed to Gullfoss Waterfall, a majestic double-tiered cascade that left me in awe of nature's power. Make sure to bring a waterproof jacket because the mist is intense! What I loved most about this adventure was the proximity to each spot. The whole circle can be done in a day, but there's plenty to explore if you take your time. Don't miss the nearby Kerid Crater – it's a small entry fee, but worth it for the vivid red volcanic rock and turquoise lake. Iceland’s Golden Circle is a must for any outdoor enthusiast. #trip #GoldenCircle #IcelandAdventures #OutdoorExploration #Geysir #Gullfoss

This trip to Iceland was truly healing! But first, a small downside: the weather in Iceland is really unpredictable. One moment it's sunny, and the next it might rain or snow. However, these little surprises don't affect my love for this magical land at all. 😍 Here are some moments I want to share with you. [First Impression of Iceland] As soon as I got off the plane, I was amazed by the colorful houses in Reykjavik! The air was fresh and crisp. 🌬 In the evening, we went to the famous Harpa Concert Hall, where the lights reflected on the sea. It was absolutely stunning. [Golden Circle, Nature's Masterpiece] Exploring the Golden Circle, I was awestruck by nature's masterpiece! 🌋 The geological wonders of Thingvellir National Park, the eruption of geysers, and the grandeur of Gullfoss Waterfall left me in awe at every turn. 😱 [Blue Lagoon, Where Ice Meets Fire] I also experienced the famous Blue Lagoon, where ice meets fire! 🧊🔥 Soaking in the warm blue waters while surrounded by a snowy world is an indescribable feeling! 💧 And the silica mud mask at the Blue Lagoon made my skin super smooth. Ladies, you must try it! 🧖‍♀ [Glacier Hiking] Our guide took us glacier hiking. Wearing crampons and walking on the glacier, every step was filled with the unknown and excitement. Although it was a bit tiring, standing at the top of the glacier and overlooking the whole of Iceland made all the fatigue worthwhile. 💪 [Northern Lights Night] We went to see the Northern Lights! The green light danced in the night sky, as if we were in a fairy tale world. At that moment, all the waiting and anticipation turned into awe. The beauty of nature was so overwhelming that it brought tears to my eyes. 💚

#magicalxmastrip #iceland Iceland in winter is a land of contrasts—where snowy landscapes meet volcanic terrain, and the aurora borealis dances across the night sky. A day exploring this incredible island during the colder months promises unforgettable adventures and stunning beauty. Start your day early in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, where winter mornings are crisp and the streets are dusted with snow. After a warm breakfast at a local café, head to the Golden Circle, a popular route that takes you through some of Iceland’s most famous natural wonders. First stop: the Þingvellir National Park. Here, you can walk between the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia, a unique experience you can’t find anywhere else in the world. The park looks even more magical in winter, with its icy rifts and snow-covered landscapes. Next, drive to Geysir, where the active Strokkur geyser erupts every few minutes, sending hot water high into the cold air. The steam contrasts beautifully with the winter chill, creating a surreal atmosphere. Afterward, visit Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall, where icy conditions create an even more dramatic scene, as frozen mist swirls around the powerful falls. In the afternoon, continue your adventure towards the south coast. Stop at Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, two stunning waterfalls that take on a magical, icy beauty in winter. If you’re feeling adventurous, walk behind the curtain of ice at Seljalandsfoss for a truly unique perspective. As evening falls, find a spot to watch the Northern Lights. With luck, you’ll witness the vibrant green and purple auroras illuminating the night sky—a perfect end to an unforgettable winter day in Iceland.
