A two day trip from Xiamen, organised by Stephen, an English speaking Tulou guesthouse owner. This is the itinerary he made for us and picture 5 is his family home. Stephen organised a driver for us to and from Xiamen and to the different villages. The food at his guesthouse is amazing and some of the best I've had in China. He also has a great selection of local tea, if you want to relax and talk about the history of his family, the Tulou and local area. "Welcome you and your friends to come to my house. Our old house is 140 years old, Hakka traditional architecture, 7,000 square meters, 168 rooms (20 rooms in our hotel room). I arranged the trip, you can see many beautiful village, this is a special trip. From Xiamen you will go Tianluokeng 、Xiaban 、Taxia villages, then will return to the our hongkeng earth building folk custom culture village, will live the Fuyulou changdi inn. Hakka Tulou Village

Hakka Tulou village is a very nice place to take a closer look at special Tulou round earth buildings. After the park car will drop you, by left side of the road behind the public toilet there is a patch to the viewing point from where you can see the entire village just need to climb a little bit for it and then can go down to the village to see it from inside. The park ticket will cost you 65元、 but it will also allow you to go inside of the main building, which well renovated and open for visitors. It can be a nice place to take some photos and also know better the way how buildings are designed inside, since this one is for tourists only and nobody leave there. Otherwise at others buildings you can see people who really is leaving there. It also a nice part of the trip to watch the local people way of leaving and also try their local herbal tea with them. At some buildings you also can find available rooms to stay for some nights to enjoy the peaceful time and escape for your crowded city life routines. There is also a river which is going through the village and which bring refreshing air.

The place give a chance to have a little camping experience, but at the same time with hotel comfort. The tent has a standard hotel bathroom and a small balcony from which you can see the river and the entrance to Yongding. Especially at evening time guests can see a part of the light show. The river’s sound can disturb some sensitive during night people, but give joy to others to listen it. BBQ grill also available to rent here for self cooking, which also can be nice camping experience.

It’s all about community in the Fujian tulou; these rural dwellings are an incredible traditional feature of Fujian province, where both round and square earthen structures seemingly rise from the ground. Built between the 12th and 20th centuries, they’re usually large and enclosed buildings with only one or two entrances, and can house up to 800 people! We suddenly decided to book a high-speed train 🚄 to Xiamen for the weekend, and took my parents to visit the Fujian Tulou. From a 15-square-meter shop opposite Dongfeng Bridge in Longyan East City to the Dongfeng Beef Offal Lianhuashan Store, it has a history of 30 years. When you think of tulou, you think of "Big Fish & Begonia." I did a lot of research and they were all similar, so I chose Chuxi Tulou, which is more primitive and less crowded. 🩷First, I recommend going to the observation deck, as it requires more physical strength. You need to climb 542m up the mountain, and it takes about 7–8 minutes to walk slowly. 🩷The observation deck is a great place to take photos, with a great view! You can stick your phone out of the railing for a great shot, just be careful not to drop it. 🩷After viewing, you can admire the tulou up close. You can see a small stream and listen to the sound of the water, which is very relaxing. 🩷Ji Qing Lou requires a second ticket check. There are three floors in total. If you want to listen to the explanation, you can ask the villagers to show you around. If you have time after visiting the tulou, you can come to Xiayang to try some local delicacies: Yongding beef balls, taro buns, and stone flowers are all good and affordable! It's only about a 30-minute drive. Photo tips: Remember to bring sunglasses for great photos! Brighten your view and start your visual journey. Xiamen : From UNESCO heritage sites to World class Towers

Spent 48 hours discovering the city of Xiamen in October 2024. An inpromptu plan without much planning. To my surprise there are just too many sites that need more time to explore. Went to Gulangyu, which is also a World heritage sites. Other than the hassle of getting tickets which are inflated in my opinion, the sites are just amazing. The historical values are aplenty. The ferry ride was a quick 20 minutes going over, and about 6minutes on the returning trip. Be careful if you are leaving after 5:45pm as the ferry will take you to another dock, and it will be loaded with locals. It is a little over crowded in my opinion. Overall, spent half day in gulangyu was rather relaxing. It will be better to spend a night there if you have the time. Went to visit a few Toulou. It is just amazing how these traditional houses can accommodate up to 800 and more individuals at times. The engineering behind is unbelievable. Just got to see it to appreciate its mere wonders. Just be extra careful which tours you purchase as some does not come with the entrance fees. I paid extra rmb230 for three different entrance tickets on top of the transportation cost. To do a. One day trip from Xiamen is a little too rush. Spent almost 2:30hours on the road one way. The time can be better spent spending a night near the sites. There are plenty of places of stay. But to travel from Xiamen can be a little too tiring in my opinion. Overall, I am still very satisfied with the visit. Will come back again. Longyan Lianshan Temple, with its tranquil Zen atmosphere, offers a peaceful retreat.

The Place from 'New Journey to the West', Tulou Tour

This is a trip to Fujian Province in winter. Fujian Province is home to Xiamen, a city we are quite familiar with. However, the Tulou tour introduced in 'New Journey to the West' is not in Xiamen. This place is about an hour and a half away from downtown Xiamen, where you can see the traditional Chinese houses called Tulou. These houses are either square or circular in shape, and the villagers used to live together in them! Even in January, Fujian Province has weather mild enough for just a light padded jacket. I highly recommend the Tulou tour! 😊

Travel notes for Longjin Lake Park.

At 7:00 am on September 28, I took the No. 32 bus from Longsheng Community Bus Station to Tiyu Park Resettlement Community Station, and then walked 730 meters to Longjin Lake Park. The park is located between Longyan Avenue and Longteng Road. The planned area of the park is 652.5 acres, of which the water area is 235 acres. Hongfang Creek and Dongxiao Creek run through the park from south to north. The ring-shaped water system flows into the central lake area after passing through the wetland, and the water body is self-purified during the circulation process. In the morning, there are many people exercising and running along the lake. The air here is fresh, and the active streams and lake water jointly regulate the city's microclimate. At 8:30, I returned to the South Square of the railway station along the original route.

Prince of Tulou, Zhencheng Lou.

Zhencheng Lou, also known as "Bagua Lou", is a typical representative of Fujian Tulou and is known as the "Prince of Tulou" and the "Oriental Architectural Pearl". Zhencheng Lou is located in Hongkeng Village, Hukeng Town, Yongding, Fujian, and is part of the Hongkeng Tulou Group. It was built under the supervision of Lin Hongchao. Zhencheng Lou is one of the finest Hakka round buildings. Its shape is like an ancient official hat. Among the more than 20,000 Tulous in Yongding, it is more representative. Zhencheng Lou faces south to the north, and the main building is designed according to the Yi Jing Bagua, divided into Bagua. There are two floors of circular terraces in the building, and the center of the inner ring is the central hall. The hall is equipped with a gallery, supported by 4 large stone pillars nearly 7 meters long. The inner ring building is a two-story brick and wood structure of Western-style architecture, forming a unique style of "outer soil and inner ocean, Chinese and Western combined". Zhencheng Lou is famous for its combination of Chinese and Western styles and its exquisite and changeable interior space design. There are firewalls between the hexagrams, and arches are set up. The doors are closed to form courtyards, and the doors are open to communicate with the courtyards. It is divided into inner and outer rings. The outer ring building is a four-story beam structure of earth and wood. The inner ring is mainly used to receive foreign guests. It boldly adopts the principle of diversity and unity emphasized by Western architectural aesthetics, and has achieved a high aesthetic realm. It is a masterpiece of Chinese and Western combined earth residential buildings. Zhencheng Lou is the main building of the World Cultural Heritage Fujian Tulou, a national cultural relics protection unit. There is a square Tulou, Qingcheng Lou, on the side of Zhencheng Lou. Qingcheng Lou is located next to the Prince of Tulou, Zhencheng Lou. It covers an area of 1,100 square meters and has four stairs and a well. It has three floors in front and four floors in the back, implying that it is getting better and better, and one generation is better than one generation.
