Wat San Pa Yang Luang, Lamphun Province
Wat San Pa Yang Luang
Wat San Pa Yang Luang is located in Ban San Pa Yang Luang, Tambon Nai Mueang, Amphoe Mueang, Lamphun Province. It is one of the 5 most beautiful temples in Thailand. Inside Wat San Pa Yang Luang, there are exquisitely carved stucco patterns, especially the Phra Khong Khiao Shrine, which has detailed and exquisitely carved stucco in the shrine. Even the gable corners, the ceiling of the roof in the front, sides, and back, as well as the pillars of the shrine, are carved with gold lacquer. Even every door and window is covered in gold. Phra Khong Khiao Shrine was built in 2548 and enshrines the Green Jade Buddha, which was brought from the Mekong River. The full name of Phra Khong is Phra Phuttha Anyarat Mahanathi Si Hariphunchai, which is similar to the current Phra Phuttha Si Sakya Kodom. There is also a large Buddha statue below Phra Khong Khiao, which is a replica of Phra Phuttha Maitreya, which was taken from Bodh Gaya when Phra Phuttha Kottama attained enlightenment and became the Sammasambuddha.
When viewed from the front, Phra Kheaw Khong Temple has a 5-tiered roof and 5 gables, which represent the 5 Buddhas. The 3 at the back represent morality, concentration, and wisdom, which represent the practice of the Buddha to attain nirvana. The 5 front and 3 back total 8, which means that one must practice the middle path, which is the Eightfold Path, to attain the Middle Way. The middle path is 9, which is the supramundane Dharma. In the middle of the roof, there is a swan boat and an umbrella, which represent supramundane Dharma or nirvana, the calmness and coolness of desire. Below is a statue of Phang Pradeep, which is like a crow's nest and a white crow sleeping in the nest. The four-faced Brahma sitting on a crow's back represents the origin of the Phang Pradeep legend. In addition to the beautiful temple, there is also a beautiful white jade Buddha statue in the reclining nirvana posture. #JapanTip #Mooncake #PlacesToVisitNearBangkok #CafeReview #RecommendDeliciousRestaurant
