It was built since the time when Thailand still counted years as "Rattanakosin Era" or in the R.S. 112 era, which if compared to the year B.E., it would be B.E. 2436, more than 127 years ago. Along with Chicken Dung Prison, it was originally the location of the Phikhat Pajjamit Fort, which was built during the reign of King Rama III. Later, when the French occupied Chanthaburi, they demolished this fort and built the Red Building to be used as accommodation and the French military headquarters. Later in B.E. 2527, the Red Building was renovated to be used as a library building and non-formal education center of Laem Sing District and was discontinued. Until now, the Red Building is open to tourists without charging an entrance fee. "Chicken Dung Prison" is an ancient prison used to hold Thai male prisoners, but it has never been used. And built with the Red Building, the upper floor of the prison is a place for raising chickens, where they will defecate on the prisoners' heads. However, some historians argue that this building was not built as a prison, but was built to be an observation tower alongside the Red Building, called the French Fort. Chicken Dung Prison is a square fort made of bricks, located not far from Laem Sing Beach and the Red Building. The prison itself has remained the same since 100 years ago, without any renovations. Only the area for walkways and the garden around the outside has been decorated.
