Visited Kamikochi on October 27, 2024, by booking a direct bus ticket from Matsumoto at 5:30 AM, arriving at Kamikochi around 7:05 AM. The weather was great, beautiful, and impressive. Initially, the weather forecast predicted rain because it had been raining the days before, so I was prepared for that. However, on the actual day, it didn't rain, the sky was clear, and the sun was shining. It was really beautiful. Around 10:00 AM, it started to get crowded. An important note is that you have to take your trash with you as it's hard to find a place to dispose of it, and there is a 100 yen fee to use the restroom.

Kamikochi is a popular tourist destination in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The only way to get there is by bus because cars are not allowed to drive there. However, there are many buses available. If you have a chance to visit Japan, don't forget to visit Kamikochi. This is a beautiful valley on a plateau in the Hida Mountains, located in the western part of Nagano Prefecture. Let me tell you, the view is stunningly beautiful, 10/10. The weather is cool and comfortable. You can walk all day. The view along the way is very beautiful. Before reaching the destination, we stopped to take pictures at almost every spot. 🏔️🌲☁️ If you are going during any period, please study the weather carefully before going. Really beautiful mountain range also nicknamed "Japanese Alps", there are buses going from Tokyo as well as Matsumoto and other cities I guess. Your visit can be extended to multiple days if you book a stay at a local Ryokan of which there are many in the area. Book your stay in advance though, or plan the trip for one day with the easier hike options. We stayed for ~5 hours and walked from taishou pond through the bus terminal area and up to myoujin pond. The route on the left side of the river (facing upstream from the bus terminal) will take you along the river streams close to the water, while the right side is more of a nice forest walk. I came to Kamikochi in Nagano Prefecture, which is designated as a cultural asset of Japan (special place of scenic beauty and special natural monument). The weather is very good and the air is very clean.
