Have you heard about Donglin Big Buddha?

Accidentally stumbled across this when deciding what to do with my day, and I’m so glad I did. Never heard of it before, but wow it was just breathtaking. 48 meters high gold statue, countless stairs but worth every step. Definitely worth a trip if staying in Jiujiang! From Jiujiang, there’s a bus at 10am leaving from the bus station which takes about 1hr to get to the Big Buddha. I missed that unfortunately as I wasn’t aware, and the lady at the bus station (which talked English!) suggested I took a bus to somewhere near (didn’t catch the name unfortunately) and then took another bus to the Bug Buddha. Just be aware that to go back to Jiujiang the last bus is at 4pm. I missed that and had to go to De’an by bus, then from there catch a train to Jiujiang. At the bottom of the statue, there’s a short street filled with restaurants and drinks, perfect after the hike!

” Xunyang Tower is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River, outside the Jiuhua Gate in Xunyang District, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It is named after the ancient name of Jiujiang, Xunyang. The tower was originally built in the Tang Dynasty, and the current building was rebuilt in 1987, covering an area of 2,800 square meters, in the style of Song Dynasty architecture. The design of Xunyang Tower was inspired by the illustrations in 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival' and 'Water Margin', featuring the architectural style of tea houses and taverns in the Jiangnan region during the Song Dynasty. The name Xunyang Tower first appeared in the poem by Wei Yingwu, the governor of Jiangzhou in the Tang Dynasty. One of the highlights was taking a boat cruise down the Yangtze, marveling at the dramatic cliffs and lush, forested shores that lined the river. In the evenings, I would stroll along the lively Jiujiang Bund, taking in the illuminated skyline across the water and sampling delicious local cuisine. The people of Jiujiang were incredibly warm and welcoming, eager to share the history and traditions of their beloved city. Overall, my trip to Jiujiang provided a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The temples that locals in Jiujiang must visit

Jiujiang Donglin Temple is located at the western foot of Mount Lu, about sixteen kilometers away from Jiujiang city center. It is 50 kilometers away from Guling Town on Mount Lu, and since it is situated to the east of the West Forest Temple, it is known as Donglin Temple. The history of Donglin Temple is very ancient, having been established during the Eastern Jin Dynasty in ancient times. It has withstood a thousand years of vicissitudes and has undoubtedly become one of the oldest temples on the world-famous Mount Lu. Nowadays, many tourists come to visit Donglin Temple in Jiujiang for sightseeing. People reflect on the past and appreciate the beauty of nature, cultivate their moral character in this pure land, making it a delightful and fulfilling journey. Donglin Temple was founded by the famous monk Huiyuan during the ninth year of Taiyuan in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (384 AD), more than 1,600 years ago. With its interlocking beams and pillars, and its red and green reflections, 'its grand scale is fit for the residence of ten thousand monks,' and it is one of the eight major Buddhist practice sites in China. The temple's environment is very beautiful, with a large lotus (lotus flower) pond in front of the Heavenly King Hall. The lotus represents purity, beauty, and Buddhism. The lotus and the Buddha's advocated transcendental personality are seamlessly integrated. The season to see and record a lotus in front of the Buddha is around July-August, and bringing a telephoto lens is key. At least a 70-200mm focal length is required. Donglin Temple is about 20km away from Jiujiang Railway Station. There are buses that reach near the temple, but a walk is required. Many pilgrims had arrived early, and as more people came, the blogger left, so it's best to go early if you want to visit. The temple is open from 8 am to 5 pm. It is said that praying for a fortune at Donglin Temple is very effective and free of charge. Listening to the sound of Buddhist scriptures here can relax the mind, and sincerity brings spirituality. You can spend 1-2 hours in the morning and then go to the Donglin Big Buddha. Donglin Temple and Donglin Big Buddha are not in the same place, but they are close, about 20km apart.
