✈️ Review of Thai Airways Royal Silk Bangkok to Jakarta
✈️ Thai Airways Royal Silk Review
BKK → Jakarta
TG435 | Airbus A350-900
This short flight of approximately 3.5 hours showcased the true meaning of Business Class, especially when flying with Thai Airways Royal Silk on the Airbus A350-900.
Many might consider the 2-2-2 Business Class configuration outdated compared to competitors who have largely switched to 1-2-1, but after actually experiencing it, I must say this seat configuration has advantages that many might overlook.
🛋️ Cabin & Seat
Royal Silk on the A350-900 uses a 2-2-2 seating configuration, which naturally means that not all seats have direct aisle access.
However, the trade-off is "spaciousness."
The seats are very wide, with ample legroom, and when converted to a bed, they are surprisingly comfortable.
For those who prioritize relaxation over the privacy of a private suite, this seat configuration still performs exceptionally well.
🍾 Welcome Drink & Beverage
Shortly after boarding, the cabin crew began serving drinks.
What I liked was the comprehensive beverage selection, standard for Business Class:
🥂 Champagne
🍷 Red Wine
🥂 White Wine
🥃 Spirits
☕ Coffee & Tea
🍹 Soft Drinks
Those who enjoy alcoholic beverages will be pleased, as they can be paired with meals throughout the meal.
🍽️ Royal Silk Dining Experience
Even though it was a flight less than 4 hours, Thai Airways still served a full-course meal.
It started with an appetizer that immediately became the star of the flight:
🦀 Crab Meat & Salmon Tartare
The opening dish exceeded expectations.
The taste was refreshing, the texture was excellent, and the presentation was beautiful.
It felt like the chef put more effort into this dish than I anticipated.
Honestly, this was the best dish of the meal.
🥖 Bread Service
A variety of breads with butter were available.
Served warm, as per Business Class standards.
🍤 Main Course
My chosen main course was:
Grilled Prawns with Dill Cream Sauce, served with linguine.
The sauce was creamy and easy to eat, and the pasta was well-cooked.
However, the shrimp was slightly overcooked, resulting in a less bouncy texture than expected.
Not bad, but "decently tasty."
Compared to the appetizer, the main course didn't quite live up to the same level of impressiveness.
🧀 Cheese Plate
Following the main course, there was cheese, fruit, nuts, and chutney.
This was another element that enhanced the in-flight experience, making it feel more complete.
☕ Dessert & Coffee
Finally, there was dessert and a hot drink.
Overall, it was a full four-course meal for a short-haul flight.
👩✈️ Service
The cabin crew remains a strong point of Thai Airways.
The service was polite, friendly, and attentive to passengers throughout the flight.
The timing of food and beverage service was efficient. Not too slow and not too rushed.
⸻
👍 Pros
✅ Very spacious seats
✅ More comfortable bed than expected
✅ Delicious appetizer, a highlight of the flight
✅ Full course meal served
✅ Champagne, Red Wine, and White Wine available
✅ Excellent cabin service
✅ The A350 cabin still looks good and is quiet
⸻
👎 Cons
❌ The 2-2-2 seating configuration is becoming outdated compared to competitors
❌ No direct aisle access for all seats
❌ Less privacy than newer seats
❌ The main course wasn't as outstanding as the appetizer
❌ The in-flight entertainment system seems outdated compared to leading Asian airlines
⸻
✨ Conclusion
Royal Silk on the Airbus A350-900 may not be the most advanced business class on the market, but it is still a very "comfortable" business class.
Highlights include the spacious seats, comfortable beds, warm Thai-style service, and meals with peak moments like surprisingly delicious appetizers.
If you're looking for a short-haul regional flight with comfortable seating, good food and drinks, and plenty of room to relax, TG435 Bangkok – Jakarta is definitely one of the most impressive flights. ✈️💜
