Hitachi Seaside Park Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jul)
The Most Beautiful Blue Hill in Japan
If you arrived in Japan on late April and still wanted to see some cherry blossoms or any other flowers blooming, maybe you have to go to Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki Prefecture. Getting there from Tokyo is easy peasy. I went there around 11 a.m and return to Tokyo before sunset. I get on the train from Ueno Station to Katsuta Station. Once you exit from Katsuta Station, you'll find a ticket counter to Hitachi Seaside Park. You'll get return ticket bus and entrance ticket. There are a lot of flower blooming in late April at Hitachi Seaside Park. Cherry blossoms were also still blooming meanwhile you can't find one in Tokyo. But everyone come to Hitachi Seaside Park not only for cherry blossom or tulip, but there's a hill covered with blue nemophilia. I swear it was the most beautiful place I've ever been. It was my last day in Japan and I didn't regret coming to Hitachi Seaside Park. You gotta see with your own eyes.

This is the Hitachi Seaside Park located in Ibaraki prefecture. It is abit far from Tokyo but I think it’s worth the trip. You can either take a straight highway bus from Shinjuku station or take the JR line to Katsuta station and take a bus to the park. During peak seasons they will sell the return bus trip and entrance tickets as a package at the bus stop which is cheaper! The park is really big and you can even have a picnic there ~
Kochia at Hitachi Seaside Park
You can visit this 200 hectare Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki Prefecture in all seasons. It is home to a variety of flowers that bloom throughout the year. Particularly popular are the fields of densely blooming Nemophila (baby blue eyes) in the spring and the kochia (summer cypress), which turn from green to bright red in the fall. You can enjoy exploring the park on a cycling course (rental bicycles available) or on the cute Seaside Train. This was the view when we went in October 🤩
Access:
From JR Katsuta Station (JR Joban Line), take the Ibaraki Kotsu bus bound for Kaihin Koen Minami Guchi (17 min). Get off at Kaihin Koen Nishi Guchi stop.

Casual strolls and one-day trips around Tokyo for the May Day holiday!
❤ I've finally arrived at the other side of the 'Anywhere Door' —— Ushiku Daibutsu!
🌟 Ushiku Daibutsu is a giant Buddha statue located in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. It is the third tallest Buddha statue in the world and the tallest structure in Ibaraki Prefecture.
👍 The Ushiku Daibutsu stands 120 meters tall, with the statue itself being 100 meters and the base 20 meters. Its official name is Ushiku Amida Buddha, and it was constructed in 1989. It is a building of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Pure Land Buddhism, specifically the Eastern Main Temple of the sect. The materials used include one thousand tons each of copper and iron.
❤ The exterior of Ushiku Daibutsu is impressively grand, and the interior of the statue is open to visitors. Inside, you can climb to the highest point of the statue to enjoy the scenery of Ibaraki, offering a unique experience. On clear days, you can see Mount Fuji and Tokyo Skytree.
✅ The first floor of the statue is the 'World of Light,' showcasing a space that represents the Pure Land. The second floor is the 'World of Gratitude and Repayment,' where sutra-copying activities are held every Saturday. The third floor is the 'Lotus Treasury World,' where about 3,400 golden Buddha statues are displayed. The fourth floor is the 'Mount Gridhrakuta Room,' where the relics of Shakyamuni Buddha are enshrined for worship.
🖼 The area around the Buddha statue is planted with various kinds of flowers, allowing visitors to enjoy different flowers throughout the year, from cherry blossoms to hydrangeas, from peonies to moss phlox, and the vibrant cosmos flowers, among others. The flowers here can be picked, and visitors are allowed to pick them in moderation according to their needs. During the summer's Magnolia Bowl Festival, there are also light shows and fireworks displays, with the entire Daibutsu immersed in a festive and joyful atmosphere.
🚉 Transportation: Take the JR Joban Line to Ushiku Station. It's very convenient from Tokyo. After exiting the station, transfer to a bus at platform 2, and it takes 30 minutes to arrive.
📍 Address: Kunocho, Ushiku City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
💰 Fee: 800 yen for adults, 400 yen for children.
🕙 Opening hours: 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
A giant Buddha in Ibaraki

This is the tallest Buddha statue I ever saw. 120m in height and and made in bronze which is incredible. An elevator takes visitors up 85m to an observation floor where you are able to see the surroundings up to few KM away. The museum inside provides the history of the statue with in details of construction. You never feel that you are inside one of the top 5 tallest statues in the world. We spend more than an hour inside. Beautiful gardens with verities of flowers make the place a heaven. Highly recommended...
In 2024, I want to visit this place.

Kairakuen Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jul)
Cherry Blossom in Japan
Decided to head to Kairakuen so we drove and parked next to the park. It was a lovely day, sunny and windy. Lovely swan posing elegantly next to the cherry blossom tree. During the season, all you need to do is just find a park and walk in, you will find yourself surrounded by lovely flowers.
Anyway it was until the very end of the walk that we realized we have not entered the Kairakuen which requires entrance fee. We have thought the park that we walked was Kairakuen. 😅 Blur me who did not do the research well. Hoping I will get another chance to visit Japan in the cherry blossom season and go back to Kairakuen!#japan

Plum tree garden in March
It was a lovely park. 1-2 hours are kind of a rush through walk. Would recommend 3 hours and more. There are tea houses and panoramic areas. There is a restaurant inside and a gift shop too. Ume (plum) gift selection is not as many as I thought it would be.
Lots of stalls selling food during ume festival. There are restaurants outside too. Located on the outskirts of Mito City, you can go there by bus or taxi, and you can also take a train during the flower season. The adjacent train station will only open and stop during the flower season.
Kairakuen, one of the three famous gardens, mainly uses plum blossoms as its biggest selling point. Unlike Kenrokuen, which is famous for its pine trees, there are quite a lot of plum trees here, and even the labels on each tree can explain its origin and variety.
