Reyedale Folk Museum is awesome 🇬🇧
#folkactivities
I recently visited the Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-le-Hole, North Yorkshire, and it was such a charming and enlightening experience! 🏡 This hidden gem is nestled in a picturesque village, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the North York Moors. The museum is an open-air treasure trove of rural history, offering a glimpse into how people lived and worked in the region over the past 500 years.
The entrance fee was very reasonable, around £8 for adults, and it’s worth every penny. The museum spans over six acres and features more than 20 preserved buildings, including a Victorian schoolhouse, a blacksmith’s forge, and traditional thatched cottages. Walking through these buildings felt like stepping back in time; they’re filled with authentic artifacts and period furniture that really bring the past to life. 🔨
One of my favorite parts was the Iron Age Roundhouse, which is a fascinating reconstruction. The volunteers were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, sharing stories and insights that made the experience even more special. If you’re visiting with kids, they’ll love the interactive exhibits and the chance to see the farm animals on site. 🐑
After exploring the museum, I recommend taking a stroll around Hutton-le-Hole itself—it's one of the most beautiful villages I’ve ever seen, with sheep grazing right in the village green! Nearby attractions include the stunning Rievaulx Abbey and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, both perfect for a day trip.
If you’re in the area, Ryedale Folk Museum is a must-visit. It’s not just educational, but also a peaceful escape into the past. I left feeling like I had truly discovered a piece of Yorkshire’s rich heritage. 🌿
