Huguan is located in southeast Shanxi and is under the administration of Changzhi City, Shanxi. The name Huguan means “Kettle Pass.” The county got this name because its county seat is surrounded by Baigu (“Hundred Valleys”) Mountain in the north and Shuanglong (“Two Dragons”) Mountain in the south, with a space in between. The contour of the mountains gives the appearance of a kettle with a pass as its mouth. The Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon Natural Scenic Area offers supreme beautiful natural surroundings, unique for their natural majesty, strangeness, steepness, and remoteness. Huguan also offers attractions like the impressive stone carvings of the scenic Wanfo (“Ten Thousand Buddhas”) Temple, ancient tombs, and an ancient memorial gateway.

Getting There - Went there on a road trip with my husband who was the designated driver. May also take the high-speed train to Changzhi station and from there travel by taxi/rental car.
Attractions - You will see the amazing view of the mountainsides. See the canyons by the river while enjoying the boa- ride. Hike up the mountain. Ride the cable car over the mountains. See the gorgeous and historical pagodas at the top. And go down by the glass elevators at the side of the mountain.
Hotels - There are small hotels available for those who plan to stay overnight, though be advised to make reservations to make sure there are available rooms.
Food & Restaurants - At the main entrance, you’ll be greeted with lots of restaurants and shops that serves local food and drinks
Shopping - There are shops that sells souvenirs, hats, fns, shirts etc

Book a nearby guesthouse in advance for 150 yuan, stay near the scenic area at night, high budget guests can stay directly in Daxiagu Town, ⚠️During National Day, the scenic area opens at 6:30 am, if you don't want to queue, be sure to catch the first wave. Self-driving tourists can navigate directly to P2 parking lot🅿️, if you arrive late and there are no parking spaces, you may need to move to P3, so if there are spaces on the roadside, park directly (villagers will ask you for 20 yuan to park your car near the guesthouse). We left the guesthouse before 7 am, and there was already traffic congestion at the parking lot.
Park the car at 7:20 am, take the free scenic area shuttle bus directly to the scenic area gate, ticket inspection starts at 7:40 am, choose route B, it seems to have less people than route A, electric car to the elevator at 8:00 am, continue walking to the aerial bus at 8:30 am (save time and energy by spending an extra 20 yuan), take photos at the top of the mountain, leisurely walk to the cable car station at 9:00 am, no queues, go directly up, arrive at the canyon at 9:30 am and start taking photos, walk 2km to the boat dock, Eight Springs Heart is at the boat dock, leisurely take photos while walking, around 11:30 am take the boat, boat ride is about 10 minutes, walk a section of the time tunnel after disembarking, take the electric car back to the scenic area gate at 12 pm, basically no queues throughout the journey (the electric car station already has a long queue at 12 pm), not tiring to play, have lunch in Daxiagu Town at noon, visit Qinglong Gorge at 1:30 pm, about 2 hours.

This will save you money and avoid climbing mountains in hot weather. Specifically, the entrance ticket is 90 yuan, the round-trip boat ticket is 60 yuan, and the small transportation is 10 yuan, for a total of 160 yuan. The full pass costs 280 yuan, plus 20 yuan for the air bus, for a total of 300 yuan. In comparison, choosing the entrance ticket + boat ticket combination can save you a lot of money.

: The double land pass for two people costs 159, which is quite cost-effective. If adults are just accompanying children without playing any attractions, they only need to buy the 9.9 Night City ticket. Children between 1.2m and 1.5m can buy a children's ticket, and those under 1.2m can enter for free but need to be accompanied by an adult with a ticket to play.
: Taking the bus from the city, especially from outside the city, is not very convenient. It is recommended to take a taxi or drive yourself, as parking is easy. However, if you play until seven or eight in the evening, it might be difficult to get a taxi. Driving yourself or renting a car is the most convenient, and parking seems to be 10 yuan without a time limit.
: It's too hot and stuffy, not recommended in summer, but it looks good in photos.
The adult version is too high; you can go to Adventure Island to play the children's version of the triple-loop roller coaster. The small log flume ride is also on this side.
: Children love the Adventure Island area the most. Right at the entrance, there are a carousel, spinning fruit cups, indoor pavilion, obstacle course, small train, bumper cars, and more. The pass allows unlimited play, and my child played almost everything twice. However, the drop tower is a bit scary. After riding it, my child didn't dare to challenge the giant swing, adult drop tower, or adult roller coaster that they had been excited about. The flying chairs are also fun, but there's a weight limit, so very small children can't play.
: Some attractions may be closed for maintenance, and some may close temporarily due to rain. You can take a photo of the daily attraction availability at the entrance. On the day we went, there were still many attractions open.
: There are many dining options. If you enter around noon, you can eat at the food street before playing. If you enter right when the park opens in the morning and the children don't want to eat, there are places selling cold drinks and sausages next to almost every attraction where you can buy instant noodles. But there are many meal options at the food street, including stewed noodles, biangbiang noodles, meatball noodles, hot dry noodles, stone pot bibimbap, big plate chicken, and various rice dishes.

Baqian Gorge Travel Guide
I drove to visit Baqian Gorge in Changzhi, Shanxi, and now I am sharing the guide for those who want to go in the future. Although it was already the end of the holiday, I still underestimated the popularity of Baqian Gorge. For those planning a one-day trip, you must arrive a day earlier and stay at a hotel at the foot of the scenic area. I arrived around noon and chose to stay. We went to Hongdou Gorge and found a homestay in the gorge. The environment was average, but you can experience a paradise-like feeling. To clarify, the tickets for Hongdou Gorge, Qinglong Gorge (I didn't go for rafting due to lack of time), and Baqian Gorge are sold together and are valid for three days. Hongdou Gorge can only be considered a resort, not a scenic spot. The scenery is very beautiful, just quietly enjoy its beauty, very peaceful. The homestay owner can take your car inside. The next morning, drive to Baqian Gorge (20 minutes, you must get up early). There are two routes for visiting Baqian Gorge, A and B. Route A is the most energy-saving, with a small shuttle taking you to the pier. Sit on the left side or the stern of the boat for the best shooting angle. After getting off the boat, you will reach the Baqian Heart check-in point. Follow the signs and don't miss it. After checking in, you can enjoy the mountain and water gorge scenery. The water is extremely clear, and you can see fish swimming everywhere. Walking to the end, you will reach the cableway, which takes about 20 minutes. It is generally thrilling, and I was too scared to look at the scenery. After getting off the cableway, you will reach Yuhuang Palace. After checking in, you can choose to take the aerial bus down for 20 yuan. If you feel energetic, you can walk down the mountain, which takes about 25 minutes. Route B is the opposite of Route A and is more physically demanding because you climb the mountain first. Personally, I think Baqian Gorge is worth visiting. It truly has high gorges and flat lakes. You must get up early and enter the park at seven o'clock. It takes more than three hours and is quite cool. One more thing to add, because the Taihang Line is under construction, you need to detour. The road to the mountain is winding, so be sure to follow traffic rules. The services at the foot of the mountain are complete, and the prices are not high. It is only open for more than three months each year, so if you have the chance, go and check it out. That's all.

Baquan Gorge has only one route. The difference between route a and b is that the scenic area uses them to manage the flow of visitors. Route a starts from low to high with a boat ride first, while route b starts from high to low with a cliff elevator ride first.

Hongdou Gorge in the Taihang Mountains of Shanxi
Hongdou Gorge Natural Scenic Area, a beautiful and magical tourist destination, is located within the territory of Huguan County, Shanxi, China. It is a premium scenic area of the Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon and is also recognized by experts as a world-class natural scenic area. It is named for the naturally growing rare tree species of the southern category, the Chinese yew, within its bounds. In the deep folds of the canyon slopes, due to unique geographical and climatic conditions, there are more than 20,000 natural southern Chinese yew trees growing in clusters, which is quite rare in the northern regions of China; the Chinese yew, a shallow-rooted plant with no prominent main root but well-developed lateral roots, is recognized worldwide as a naturally rare and endangered anti-cancer plant, a relic from the Quaternary glaciation, with a history of 2.5 million years on Earth. Due to the slow growth rate of the Chinese yew under natural conditions and its poor regenerative ability, there has not been a large-scale yew timber base formed anywhere in the world for a long time. China has classified it as a first-class rare and endangered protected plant, and the United Nations has also explicitly banned its felling.
Baquanxia Homestay Recommendation, Banxia Homestay, one kilometer from the scenic area entrance
Banxia Homestay is located at the entrance of the 5A-level scenic area Baquanxia, at a particularly close distance. The house is newly renovated this year and looks particularly nice.
Baquanxia is in Changzhi, and the highway is not very convenient. Driving requires passing through villages, following a loop of mountain roads along both sides of the reservoir, and the scenery is also very good. Along the way, you can see the continuous mountains, which are slightly different from most of the mountains in the north, with a bit of a Yunnan feel, more graceful. You will also see large areas of terraced fields, layer upon layer, like an oil painting spread down along the mountainside.
The homestay is not far from the entrance of Baquanxia, very close to the scenic area. Moreover, around the homestay, the mountains are already directly in sight. The rooms at the front of the homestay all have an open-air balcony, where you can enjoy the mountain view and the breeze. The rooms at the back have large glass windows, right next to a cornfield, where you can see the rural houses and courtyards, and further away are the thriving mountains, very majestic, giving a bit of a sense of a paradise.
Banxia Homestay is fully smart-home equipped and also has central air conditioning, which adjusts the temperature quickly and makes people more comfortable.
