Embalse de Lanuza amazed me with its serene, blue waters and stunning mountain backdrop. It feels like a hidden gem, even though it’s close to the charming town of Sallent de Gállego. Surrounded by the Pyrenees, the lake offers breathtaking reflections on the water when the light hits perfectly. I took a walk along the shore and ended up sitting for hours, simply watching the clouds drift over the peaks. It’s incredibly peaceful, with no sense of urgency. People were kayaking and paddleboarding, which looked like a lot of fun. If you enjoy relaxing outdoor activities, this place is perfect. There are picnic spots, and during summer, they sometimes host concerts and small festivals by the water, which sounds fantastic. Pack some snacks, maybe a blanket, and soak in the view. Embalse de Lanuza is one of those tranquil places where you can unwind and truly breathe.

Spanish Pyrenees Hike ~ Huesca (Region) Huesca has a rich cultural and natural heritage that attracts thousands of tourists every year. A few kilometers from the capital is the Guara Canyons Natural Park (Cañones de Guara), a natural area suitable for outdoor sports such as canyoning. The Aragonese Pyrenees offer countless tourist attractions. Their most characteristic landscapes are those formed by mountain peaks and green valleys, such as those of Ansó, Hecho and Tena, the latter of which has been declared a Biosphere Reserve. The Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park is one of the most important protected areas in the Pyrenees for its fauna and high ecological value. Therefore, Monte Perdido was declared a World Heritage Site. At the foot of the mountain is Bielsa’s Parador Hotel, a cozy mountain sanctuary on the banks of the River Cinca. The highest peaks of the Pyrenees and the southernmost glacier in continental Europe are located in the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park and Pico de Aneto (3,404 m). The Aragon Way is a branch of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela that passes through Huesca. From France, the trail crosses the summit of Mount Somport (1,632 meters) into Spain. After leaving Candanchú and Canfranc, we arrive in Jaca. The most striking feature here is the castle, a fortress built in the 12th century. In the historic medieval center, you can admire the castle, built in the 16th century on the orders of Felipe II, and the Cathedral of San Pedro, declared a National Monument. Spanish Pyrenees Hike ~ Huesca (Region) At the end of the 13th century, Jaime I began to build a Gothic church on the site of the Misredah Mosque. The cathedral faces a small square, which is modest in size compared to the grand square of the temple. The late Romanesque portal is quite instructive (and seems very much restored to me). The polygonal plan of the bell tower softens the view. The fulcrum of the Gothic interior is the retractable table in the central apse: a work carved in alabaster by Damian Forment (author of the retractable table in the Basilica of Pilar in Zaragoza). Although the work still draws on medieval motifs and backgrounds, it has experimented with stylistic features typical of the Renaissance. #AprilDestinations2025 #SpainTravel #Aragon

Spanish Pyrenees Hike ~ Huesca (Region) It was founded as a Benedictine monastery in the late 11th century. Its main entrance is in Romanesque style. The interior of the church has three naves, a transept and three apses. The choir stalls are Gothic. However, its most outstanding feature is undoubtedly the Romanesque cloister. Spanish Pyrenees Hike ~ Huesca (Region) The Beulas Foundation’s Center for Art and Nature (CDAN) is located in a building designed by architect Rafael Moneo on the outskirts of Huesca. Since its opening in January 2006, the center has strived to become an international reference point for all topics related to art, nature and contemporary culture. CDAN has two major collections: the collection left by José Beulas and his wife María Sarrate, which includes their collection of Spanish contemporary art from the second half of the 20th century; and the Art and Nature collection, which exhibits land art and public art by internationally renowned figures such as Richard Long, Siah Armajani, Fernando Casáems and Alberto Carneiro. The second group of works are not centrally located but rather scattered across various sites in the province of Huesca, as they are works designed specifically for specific locations in the landscape. CDAN's activity is mainly based on temporary exhibitions of its two collections and reflections on contemporary art and nature. Its exhibitions are complemented by international programmes, such as the annual Thinking Landscapes, as well as conferences, seminars, competitions and research grants. A journey through the Pyrenees of Spain ~ Huesca (Region) The university, established in the late 19th century, is housed within the old Sertorian University, a Baroque-style civil building. Archaeology and fine arts are the museum's pillars, with collections ranging from prehistoric times to medieval sculptures. It also preserves relics from the ancient Roman cemetery of Coscujuela de Fantova and Iberian artifacts. Additionally, it features canvases from the 15th to the 20th century. Noteworthy are the Gothic paintings and panels, Goya's lithographs from the "Bordeaux Bulls" series, and the complete works of Ramón Acín. The old royal palace building next to the museum is used for temporary exhibitions.

The hotel is in an excellent location, a 5-minute walk from the train station and within walking distance of the city center. The hotel is well-equipped, clean, and has good service and a great value for money.
