Zhangzhou Tulou: Off the Beaten Path
Fujian Tulou is known as a "mythical mountain building" for its long history, large number, grand scale, unique shape, and distinctive style.
Eryi Building: Located in Dadi Village, Xiandu Town, Hua'an County, it is the "King of Tulou" and the largest single building, known as the "Southern Mural Museum." Eryi Building has a unique architectural style, consisting of a four-story outer ring building and a single-story inner ring house, with a total of 52 rooms. It is well laid out, highly defensive, and aesthetically pleasing.
Tianzhongfu Tulou Cluster: Located in Tianzhong Village, Shuyang Town, Nanjing County, it consists of 7 ancient tulou buildings, dating back to the Tang Dynasty, with a long history and rich cultural heritage. Recommended visit time: 2 hours.
Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster: Located in Tianluokeng Village, Shuyang Town, Nanjing County, it consists of square, round, and oval buildings, forming a unique landscape. It is one of the filming locations for the movie "Big Fish & Begonia," and is perfect for photography and sightseeing.
Hekeng Tulou Cluster: Located in Hekeng Village, Shuyang Town, Nanjing County, it has 13 tulou buildings listed as World Cultural Heritage sites, with different ages and shapes. It is highly recommended to visit the Lion Mountain Observation Deck opposite Hekeng for a spectacular view of the tulou buildings.
Taxia Village: Located in Shuyang Town, Nanjing County, it is known as the "Zhouzhuang of Southern Fujian" and the "Taiji Water Village." The village has the Zhang Family Ancestral Hall, Deyuan Hall, and the Shilong Flagpole Group, which have a history of over 400 years and are well worth a visit.
