After traveling to 40 countries, I finally found my favorite travel destination!
Friends often ask me: "You've been to 40 countries, which one is your favorite?" I never had a definite answer. 😳
First, I live in Iceland, a country that many people call the ultimate travel destination, so my travel threshold is very high. Second, there are very few travel destinations that have all five of these elements: reasonable prices, beautiful scenery, good security, delicious food, and a pleasant climate.
But this year, I found my favorite travel destination, and that is Austria 🇦🇹. By chance, I traveled to Austria five times, each time for 10 days to half a month. Each trip refreshed my understanding of this country.
Thanks to the invitation of the Austrian National Tourist Office, I packed my bags again, said goodbye to the cold nights of Iceland, and flew to Austria. ✈️
This is my second vacation in Austria this year, and I chose Salzburg again. This land, which combines the beauty of history and nature, is like a never-fading painting. Whether it is the solemnity of the old city, the elegance of the royal hotel, or the tranquility of the lake district, it attracts me, a traveler from afar.
The ancient city of Salzburg is like a bright pearl, inlaid between the green mountains and rivers. This is the cradle of Mozart, where notes float in the air, and the outlines of the buildings seem to tell ancient stories. 🏰
If Salzburg is the elegance of humanity, then the lake district not far from Salzburg is the sound of nature. The emerald lakes hidden in the green mountains are like a few bright gems.
I also chose one of the only two Rosewood hotels in Austria as my base for this trip. The hotel is located by the lake, and when you open the window of your room, you can see the lake and mountains. It is truly a secluded paradise. In October, it was awarded the highest honor of the "Michelin Star Key" rating - "Three Star Key". It used to be a castle where royal family members came to escape the summer heat, and it was also the filming location of the movie "Sissi". 👸
Hiking is the best way to explore the lake district. The lake district is composed of lakes of different sizes and small towns built by the lake. Towns such as Gosau and Wolfgang are worth visiting. Walking along the lakeside path, your steps are light, and you can only hear the whisper of the wind and the chirping of birds. The sparkling lake, the majestic snow-capped mountains, and the quiet forest are truly a magnificent painting! 🏔
If you are looking for a place to escape the world, you can't miss the lake district of Austria. Wash your body and mind in the lakes and mountains, and find a place for your soul in the tranquility.
The mountains and rivers are silent, but they are enough to comfort every traveler who is looking for a place for their soul. 🍃
[Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, Salzburg, Austria] Prestigious Lake View Suite.
The Rosewood Schloss Fuschl in Salzburg, Austria, which only opened in July, was converted from the 15th-century Austrian castle, Schloss Fuschl. Surrounded by mountains and standing by the lake, it is a paradise for a secluded vacation. It's really beautiful.
The hotel is small, with less than 100 rooms, and rooms with lake view terraces are relatively scarce. The room is compact, but the interior decoration is very grand, and the bedding is very comfortable. But the bathroom and cloakroom are compact.
The hotel has several restaurants. The main restaurant, Schloss restaurant, offers breakfast and fine dining, with the best lake view. The restaurant Vinothek and the bar Schloss bar both offer fine wines and light meals. There is also an indoor afternoon tea Sisi Teesalon and a terrace cafe Seeterrasee, so you can rest assured to choose in the hotel. I will write another note about dining.
The hotel also has two indoor and outdoor constant temperature swimming pools. The fitness area and sauna area are also large. After breakfast, many people start to exercise and lie down.
Unfortunately, the weather was bad for the first two days. Finally, it cleared up on the last day. The magnificent and charming lake view finally appeared before my eyes. It was a worthwhile trip.

Fuschl am See
Overseas self-driving tours often encounter an embarrassing situation. Sometimes it takes a long time from check-out to new check-in. It doesn’t matter if the journey is far, just drive slowly and take a break at the coffee service area along the way. When the distance between two scenic spots is very short and it happens to be noon, you don’t know where to go? Going from Salzburg to Hallstatt, check out at 11 am and check in at 4 pm. The distance is less than 100 kilometers. There are no service areas and cities along the way. I really don’t know how to arrange it. Search on Google maps and pass by Fuschlsee Lake Fuschlsee. There is a village by the lake, which is shown on the map as "Fuschlsee". I feel happy when I see the pronunciation of the letters. No wonder everyone on the western plateau of China calls it "Fuschlsee". Plateau lakes are called "sea", and this "See" may be "Sea sea". Perhaps humans initially had the same understanding of larger bodies of water, namely the sea.
Lake Fuschl is located in the Salzkammergut, to put it simply, southeast of Salzburg. The water area is not large, 4.1 kilometers long and 0.9 kilometers wide. The water quality is crystal clear. The surrounding vegetation is well protected and the environment is beautiful. It is said that there are more than ten kinds of fish growing in the lake. It was already known during the period of the Principality of Salzburg, and the catch was offered to the archbishop. At present, Lake Fuschl is a popular tourist resort where people can enjoy hiking, swimming, boating and other water activities.
There is a small village by the lake. There is a huge paid parking lot at the entrance of the village, and the tourist information center is opposite. It was almost noon when I arrived, and there were almost no people on the street except tourists. Occasionally, there were people in front of some houses who were busy cutting lawns, washing cars, or doing some cleaning and maintenance work. Judging from the architecture, most of the buildings in the village are B&Bs. The snow on the Alps in the distance has not completely melted, and there are already people rowing boats on the lake for water sports. Along the lakeside, it is basically impossible to get close to the lake, and it is divided up by various B&Bs. The whole town is quiet and quiet, maybe it is the off-season for tourism here. I believe that skiing or snow viewing in winter and paddling in the water in summer must be very popular. Whether it is sunrise or sunset, it will bring you unexpected visual enjoyment. Afterwards, I found out on the Internet that this is a very popular tourist attraction and it is impossible to find accommodation in the peak season without booking in advance.
I passed by in a hurry, and I fell in love with this quiet environment and beautiful lake after just one glance. Maybe when the weather is calm, the reflection of the snow-covered mountains on the lake is more exciting. Maybe I will stay in Austria's lake area for a long time. Spend a day enjoying this beautiful feast.
Schloss Forsch Hotel Salzburg, a Luxury Collection Hotel
The main filming location for the first part of the movie "Sissi" is a landmark building built in the 15th century, located in a five-star hotel in the Salzburg Hof area in Austria. In the movie, it is the tower on the right side of Figure 6 of the hotel that often appears, while Figure 7 shows the outside part of the tower facing the lake. The tower later became part of the hotel kitchen and was known as "the most beautiful kitchen" (Figure 10).
The hotel has a museum that collects the personal belongings of Princess Sissi and her husband Joseph, including the clothes that Joseph and Princess Sissi once wore or used.
In 2022, the hotel plans to undergo redesign and renovation, and is expected to reopen in 2024 and be positioned as an ultra-luxury hotel and resort.
