Heidelberg, the famous cultural and tourist capital of Germany, a city that 'steals hearts
'
On July 16th, the twenty-eighth day of the European tour, we arrived early in the morning by train in Heidelberg, Germany. The beautiful Heidelberg is a cultural and university town on the banks of the Neckar River. Winding and quiet alleys connect the ancient castle and the small river, full of poetic and picturesque charm. Nestled among green mountains and clear waters, Heidelberg's stone bridge, ancient castle, and old town buildings with white walls and red tiles are filled with romantic and enchanting colors. Heidelberg is the epitome of romantic Germany. The castle is located on the Königstuhl hill by the Neckar River, a reddish-brown ancient castle that is the remains of an ancient imperial palace.
The Heidelberg Old Bridge is a stone bridge with nine arches, spanning the north and south banks of the Neckar River. It was built between 1786 and 1788 by Elector Karl Theodor. On the southern bank, a bridgehead tower stands majestically, echoing the ancient Heidelberg castle on the hill.
There are indeed many reasons to love Heidelberg; it is a city that 'steals hearts.' The poet Goethe 'lost his heart in Heidelberg,' and Mark Twain said Heidelberg was 'the most beautiful place he had ever been.'

Go to Heidelberg to study seriously
📍Once again in Heidelberg, once again at Heidelberg University, I happened to catch a small class, learning about the achievements of this university from history, and taking notes with pictures:
👍56 Nobel Prize winners, mainly in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, and biology
👍Here emerged Kirchhoff, a German physicist, who made significant contributions to the fundamental principles of circuits and spectroscopy (with Kirchhoff's laws named after him in both fields), coined the term 'black body' in 1862. The two circuit laws he published in 1847 developed Ohm's law and had a major impact on circuit theory.

Heidelberger 2022🎅
I was here once back in 2019, and thought to myself I need to visit this city again. Heidelberg is such a unique love place in Germany specially right now!! with the magical touch of Christmas 🎄 make it much more wonderful. If you plan to find something to eat in the Christmas market, I suggest you to go there a bit early (18.00 maybe) because I found out that the more late night the less appetizing the food look. But other than that nothing to complain.
Enjoy your trip and don’t forget to put the Christmas market’s cup from each town to fulfill your souvenir collection 😉

I was on a business trip to Karlsruhe Germany. Thus, when I had the free time, I went to the nearby city Heidelberg with my colleagues and customers to explore different parts of Germany.
Heidelberg is a city in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, situated on the river Neckar in south-west Germany. When I reached there, I was captivated by it. The sight of the historic buildings made the whole scenery so so beautiful. The most notable landmark there is a castle called Heidelberg Palace. We don't get to see such sights in Singapore and this I felt really blessed that I was here to witness this sight.

Great quality food, great service and lovely atmosphere. I really enjoyed lunch here. It was a raining day and we requested for warm water. The staff are attentive and friendly. They specially made us 2 glasses hot water with lime. We ordered Pad Thai and fried pork with basil leaves. Excellent food. Everyone was really happy to serve us. We loved it. Very authentic, and the prices are about right. Please do visit it when you are in Heidelberg.

Schloss Heidelberg (Heidelberg Castle) 🏰
Heidelberg Castle is located at Heidelberg, which is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany! 🇩🇪
It was built in Year of 1214 (808 years old).
Mark Twain said of Heidelberg Castle that "A ruin must be rightly situated, to be effective. This one could not have been better placed." Built of red Neckar sandstone on the terraced hillside nearly 200 meters directly above Heidelberg's Old Town, this 16th-century castle is one of the best examples of German Renaissance architecture.
After its destruction by the French, who devastated the Palatinate in the 17th century, it has remained the largest and most picturesque such ruin in Germany.
The castle is the site of many festivals, most held in its evocative courtyard, where there are also frequent theater performances, concerts, and firework displays. One of the most popular events is the Heidelberg Castle Festival from June to August, which features an eclectic mix of theater, choral music, chamber orchestras, jazz, folk, and opera.
Heidelberg Castle can be reached by the Bergbahn, a funicular railway running from the Kornmarkt, or via a 15-minute walk from the Old Town.

Heidelberg, city, Baden-Württemberg Land (state), southwestern Germany. The city lies on the canalized Neckar River where it emerges from the forested hills of Odenwald into the Rhine plain. It was first mentioned in 1196 and was the capital of the Rhenish Palatinate (Pfalz) and the residence of the electoral counts palatine until 1720. It was devastated in 1622 during the Thirty Years’ War and almost completely destroyed by the French in 1689 and 1693, so most of its important buildings are in the Baroque architectural style (which prevailed until the late 18th century) rather than Gothic medieval. It passed to Baden in 1802 and experienced considerable growth in the 20th century.
The University of Heidelberg (Ruprecht-Karl-Universität), the oldest higher educational institution in Germany, was founded by Rupert I and chartered by Pope Urban VI in 1386. Its Geological-Paleontological Institute houses the Heidelberg jaw, a fossil jawbone, probably 500,000 years old, that was found in the vicinity in 1907.
University Library, part of the University of Heidelberg.
Heidelberg remains primarily a university and residential city, but it also has developed a significant industrial base. Manufactures include machines, precision instruments, and leather, tobacco, and wood products. The main business, however, is the tourist trade; several million people visit the imposing Heidelberg Castle every year. Although devastated by the French in 1689 and 1693 and then struck by lightning in 1764, this magnificent red sandstone structure, 330 feet (100 metres) above the river, still dominates the city. Construction began in the 13th century, but the most notable work was done in the Renaissance and includes the Otto-Heinrichsbau and Friedrichsbau. In the cellar of the Friedrichsbau is the Heidelberg Tun (1751), an enormous wine cask with a capacity of 49,000 gallons (185,500 litres).

The famous Heidelberg Old Bridge. The old bridge was built in 1788 and the official name is Karl-Theodor Bridge, the name of the electorate who built the baroque stone bridge in 1788. This is the ninth bridge in this position since ancient Roman times and the oldest bridge on the Neckar River in Heidelberg.
This bronze monkey statue is not small. It is said that the monkey's left hand mirror and the left foot ring symbolize vanity, the naked hip symbolizes lust and ugliness, and the right hand extends fingers to block people's evil sight. The copper monkey in this position also appeared in the 15th century. At that time, it was a symbol of ugly, shameless, desire and vanity. It was used to satirize the bridge fee and also expressed the meaning of equality among the people inside and outside the bridge. Legend has it that the person who has held the right hand finger of the monkey will return to Heidelberg in the future. Those who have touched the bronze mirror of the left hand of the monkey will have good luck, so at a glance, the bronze mirror has been touched by the pedestrians.
Looking up at Heidelberg Castle on the top of the throne from the old bridge in Heidelberg, it is an extraordinary momentum. The two 28-meter-tall bridgeheads at the southern end of the old bridge are the oldest part of the old bridge. They were built in the 15th century and used as part of the bridge. The bridge gate was originally used to collect the bridge fee.

The architecture of Heidelberg Castle in Germany is constantly changing, forming a wonderful mix of Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance styles. You can walk through the promenade to a viewing platform, which also overlooks the city of Heidelberg.
No wonder the poet Goethe "has lost his heart in Heidelberg".
Mark Twain said that Heidelberg is the most beautiful place he has ever been.
Come here is really attracted to the romantic atmosphere of Heidelberg. Heidelberg in the green mountains and green waters, I like the stone bridges, castles and white walls and red tiles of the old town buildings. Every place is full of romance and charming colors.

Heidelberg Old Town, Germany.
Heidelberg is located in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, on the banks of the Neckar River, which flows from the Oden Valley to the Rhine Valley. Famous attraction: Heidelberg Castle, located on the top of Königstuhl, is a representative work of the German Renaissance, combining Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles.

Heidelburg Castle is a must do if in the area. Only a short trip from Frankfurt and offering amazing views of the Rhine. If you like history then I’d recommend the tour to access areas others aren’t able to go to.

The most romantic city in Germany must be the "heart-stealing" Heidelberg.
Heidelberg, once considered a microcosm of romantic Germany, is famous for its ancient university, magnificent castle, and picturesque Neckar River. The poet Goethe visited 8 times and encountered love in Heidelberg, writing the verse "I lost my heart in Heidelberg"; Mark Twain said Heidelberg was "the most beautiful place I have ever been to."
Heidelberg has one of the oldest universities in Europe - Heidelberg University; the unique history of the student prison; Heidelberg Castle, which is represented by Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance architecture; the Philosopher's Path where philosopher Hegel and poet Goethe have walked; the world's largest wine barrel, and it is also the representative city of the world's printing press production.
Heidelberg is located on the Neckar River and belongs to the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The name Heidelberg officially appeared in historical documents in 1196 and is a classic on the route of the German Castle Road.

Unbelievable Heidelberg with amazing view from castle!
A sun-drenched summer day atop the historic Heidelberg Castle is nothing short of magical. Perched high on the Königstuhl hillside, the castle offers a breathtaking vantage point overlooking the Neckar River. As the sunlight bathes the ancient stone walls in a warm glow, the view from the top unfolds in all its splendor.
The lush greenery of the valley below contrasts beautifully with the shimmering blue of the river, which winds its way gracefully through the landscape. From this vantage point, you can see the charming town of Heidelberg spread out below, its rooftops and narrow streets imbued with centuries of history.
Gazing out, it's easy to imagine the stories and events that have unfolded in this very spot over the years. The castle, with its imposing towers and ruins, stands as a testament to time, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
In this moment, the beauty of the natural world and the rich tapestry of history converge, creating an unforgettable experience that leaves you feeling both awed and inspired. The view from Heidelberg Castle, with the river stretching out before you, is a sight that lingers in your heart long after you’ve descended the hill.#heidelberg

Romantic Castle Ruin, Heidelberg Castle!
#traveldiaries
Nestled in the hill 300 feet above the city of Heidelberg stands the breath-taking Heidelberg Schloss (castle). The castle is a combination of several buildings surrounding an inner courtyard, put together with a haphazard look. Each building highlights a different period of German architecture.
The castle has a history almost as old as the city itself. The first parts of the castle were constructed around 1300, but it wasn’t before Prince Elector Ruprecht III (1398 – 1410) that the castle was used as a regal residence. Until it was destroyed by lightning in 1764 leaving it permanently uninhabitable, the castle was the residence for most of the Prince Electors. In 1800, Count Charles de Graimberg began the difficult task of conserving the castle ruins. Up until this time, the citizens of Heidelberg had used the castle stones to build new houses.
Getting there🚃: easily reachable with the funicular railway from the old town.
💰Average Price per Person: €9 which includes the entrance fee to the castle and round trip funicular ride.

Subverting Stereotypes of Germany (3)
🛬Wandering the Classic Castle Route
In addition to being the birthplace of the famous fairy tale "Grimm's Fairy Tales" and having a real fairy tale town, Germany is also the country with the most castles in the world and is known as the "Country of Castles", with more than 20,000 existing castles.
The earliest function of the castle was military defense. The Duke of Normandy in France "revolutionarily" invented castle tactics. Small castles in Germany were built on traffic arteries to collect customs duties from passing merchants. Today, along the Rhine River, countless castles can be seen along the way, which is a testimony to history.
⛺Heidelberg, a representative work of the German Renaissance
Heidelberg Castle is located on the top of the King's Throne Mountain. It has been expanded several times in history and has formed a mixture of Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance styles. It is a representative work of the German Renaissance. The internal structure of the castle is complex, including fortifications, living rooms, palaces and castle gardens. It was a military fortress and also the residence of the elector.
Heidelberg, a pearl in southern Germany, is quietly located on the banks of the Neckar River. The ancient and elegant stone bridge, the colorful old city, the towering castle, full of historical heaviness and years of precipitation, witnessed the vicissitudes of more than 800 years.
🚌Bamberg "Little Venice"
Bamberg has a history of thousands of years. It was once the residence of the emperor and bishop of the Holy Roman Empire, and it is also the largest historical city in Germany that has not been destroyed by war. Water is the soul of a city, and it is precisely because of water that Bamberg has become more gentle and has the reputation of "Little Venice".
🏨Bayreuth, Margrave Opera House
This is the residence of German composer Wagner, and it is also a palace city. The then living Margravine Wilhelmine was the most influential woman in Germany in the 18th century. She turned this place into a dazzling cultural metropolis, showing her attitude towards life and love for art.
Visit the "One of the Most Beautiful Baroque Theatres in Europe", the Margrave Opera House, which is luxuriously decorated, with reliefs all around, and gilded pillars. The exterior is also very gorgeous. It is the most favorite and most gorgeous leisure place of Margravine Wilhelmine.

Heidelberg, a city that touches the heart.
I first learned about Heidelberg from printing presses. At that time, a small printing factory would boast for a long time if it had a Heidelberg printing press.
Heidelberg is not only the origin of high-precision printing presses, but also has many other things to boast about - Heidelberg University, Heidelberg Old Town, Heidelberg Castle, Old Bridge... I was fortunate enough to visit them all this time.
Heidelberg has been a popular tourist destination in Germany for many years, and the city is considered the epitome of German Romanticism.
Heidelberg Old Town is built along the river and is long and narrow. The streets, alleys, and main buildings all retain their original simplicity. The main street is Hauptstrasse, which is about 1.6 kilometers long. My tour started from this pedestrian street. The street is paved with oval stones and is narrow and winding.
In the center of the pedestrian street is a place called University Square. This is the famous Heidelberg University, which is as famous as the city itself. It became a center of European science and culture as early as the 16th century, and the famous philosopher Hegel graduated from this university.
Unlike universities in China, there are no gates or plaques here. I could only stand in University Square and look up and down, carefully savoring the atmosphere of this top 200 university in the world.
The landmark of Heidelberg is a reddish-brown ancient castle built on the huge King's Throne Mountain. Originally built in the 13th century, it has been expanded several times throughout history, forming a mixture of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles. The entire castle has high walls, towers, palaces, and English gardens. It was once one of the largest castles in Europe. It was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, and most of it is now in ruins.
Mark Twain said of Heidelberg Castle: "Ruined but still majestic, like King Lear in a storm." Today, I can take a cable car up the mountain, get close to the once magnificent castle, and admire the now dilapidated beauty. At the same time, I can overlook the entire Heidelberg Old Town from the observation deck, experiencing the confluence of beauty and historical treasures on the World Heritage Site.
The Old Bridge of the Neckar River is a counterpart to the Heidelberg Castle on the mountain. It is the finishing touch to Heidelberg's natural beauty. It has nine arches and was built in 1788. On the south bank of the river, there is a bridgehead standing tall. On the left side, there is a bronze monkey statue holding a bronze mirror. It is said that touching the bronze mirror in the monkey's hand will bring good luck. There is also a statue of the goddess of wisdom on the bridgehead.
I walked across the arch bridge and looked south: a breathtakingly beautiful Heidelberg landscape of old bridges, long rivers, green mountains, and ancient castles.
Over the past 800 years, many great poets and artists have visited this place, and their biographies have never omitted Heidelberg. No world literature history book can omit Heidelberg.
Mark Twain said Heidelberg was "the most beautiful place he had ever been";
The poet Goethe "lost his heart in Heidelberg".
Before I got on the bus to leave, I caught a glimpse of a beautiful girl by the river, holding a bottle in her hand, dancing and walking forward. Drunk?
No! Heidelberg is a city that touches the heart.
