Canaima National Park is located in the southeastern Venezuelan state of Bolívar. It was established as a national park in 1962, and UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Site in 1994. Steep cliffs and extremely high waterfalls are characteristic of Canaima National Park. Canaima National Park is known as the "Land of Waterfalls" because of its many spectacular waterfalls. The most famous is Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world, with a drop of 979m. Devil's Valley is located at the foot of Angel Falls. The soil and rocks of this valley are dark red, so the Indians used to regard it as the residence of the devil. Because the rivers flowing through here are rich in iron, the deposition of iron has stained the soil and rocks red, and you can't help but marvel at the uncanny workmanship of nature. The Guiana Highlands, a World Heritage Site in Venezuela, South America, is a place where the lost world of the dinosaur era unfolds. The most famous tourist spot there is Angel Falls (Salto Ángel in Spanish). The waterfall, which flows down from the top of a table mountain boasting a height of 1 km, is famous for not having a pool because it turns into mist at the end due to its enormous length. To get there, you first travel to Canaima National Park, join a local tour, travel up the river in about half a day, and then travel to the base camp. It is common to sleep in a hammock at the base camp. From there, you can trek to the waterfall below the pool! Furthermore, if you have the budget, you can experience a sightseeing flight in a Cessna at Canaima Airport. You can book it on-site (it used to cost about $100). The view of Table Mountain from above is extremely exciting. The captain will circle over the waterfall with great enthusiasm. I stayed in Canaima for a night before heading to Angel Falls, and it was totally worth it. The town is small but beautiful, surrounded by lush jungle and scenic rivers. The local villages are so friendly, and the vibe is really relaxed. I loved how close you feel to nature there. We took a tour around the local falls and the riverbed, which was a highlight. The falls were stunning, and the boat ride through the jungle was a cool adventure. The area is peaceful, and the views are just incredible. Staying overnight gave me a chance to really soak in the area before the big trek to Angel Falls. It felt like a perfect introduction to the wild, and I’m so glad I spent that extra time in Canaima. I flew into this tiny town called Canaima in Venezuela, and right away, I knew this was going to be an adventure. First, we took a boat through the jungle—super cool but also really hot and humid. The sounds of the jungle were all around us. After a short hike, we finally reached the spot where you can see Angel Falls. When I saw the falls, I was seriously speechless. It was so much bigger than I expected, just this massive waterfall dropping from way up high. The sound of the water was so loud, but also kind of peaceful. It felt surreal being there. One of the best parts? I swam in a little pool right under the falls! The water was so refreshing, and the power of the falls crashing down around me was just incredible. It felt like I was in another world. Returning back was also fun, because we started to hike down late in the evening, after sunset. Jungle at night is a really weird place to be. It was fun though, even though it was a little bit scary. And then we spent the night at the camping grounds across the river where we slept in the hammocks. I loved the whole experience—getting there, the boat ride, the hike, and finally seeing the falls up close. Roraima mountain is an absolute must for everyone visiting Venezuela! Hiking Mount Roraima was one of the most incredible experiences I've had. It’s a 6-day trek, so it’s definitely challenging, but the views make it all worth it. The landscape is unlike anything I’ve seen—flat-topped mountains, strange plants, and unique rock formations everywhere. Roraima was actually the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s *The Lost World*, which made it feel even more special cause it's one of my favorite novels. The hike itself isn’t easy; we climbed through jungle, crossed rivers, and hiked up steep terrain. But once we reach the top, it was like stepping into another world—clouds below, bizarre plant life, and a sense of isolation that's hard to describe. One thing to keep in mind: it's not just about the physical challenge. The weather up there is unpredictable, so pack wisely, especially for cold nights. But overall, it’s totally worth it.
