street of Genova
Genoa (Genova) is a port city and the capital of northwest Italy's Liguria region. It's known for its central role in maritime trade over many centuries. In the old town stands the Romanesque Cathedral of San Lorenzo, with its black-and-white-striped facade and frescoed interior. Narrow lanes open onto monumental squares like Piazza de Ferrari, site of an iconic bronze fountain and Teatro Carlo Felice opera house. #genova #italy

Christopher Columbus House
The Christopher Columbus House in Genoa, Italy, is an 18th-century reconstruction of the house in which Christopher Columbus grew up.
According to historian Marcello Staglieno, the original house was most likely destroyed in the French Bombardment of Genoa in 1684. It was rebuilt in the early 18th century on the basis of the original ruins. The rebuilt structure had a height of five stories. However, the upper stories were built by placing their beams on the neighboring buildings. When the neighboring buildings were demolished around 1900, as part of the construction of Via XX Settembre, the upper stories of this building were removed, and it was reduced to its current height of two stories. Currently the building operates as a museum
Defined by many as the world’s most beautiful seaside town, picturesque Portofino intoxicates those who visit the northwestern coast of Liguria. This coastline is part of the Italian Riviera, which extends upwards from the luscious region of Tuscany to the Italian-French border and includes the enthralling rocky stretch, Cinque Terre. Centuries ago, Portofino was a traditional, small, secluded fishing village. Now, with only about 500 permanent residents, Portofino is pocket-sized and barely qualifies as a town. However, its streets and surrounding wilderness come alive in the warm summer months.
From June to September, visitors who want to sunbathe and relax in one of Italy’s most charming places flock to Portofino. The tranquil harbor is filled with gleaming sailboats and larger luxury vessels. The shore is lined with rows of quaint fisherman houses that vary in cheerful pastel colors and stylish bars and cafes. Sailing, diving, hiking, and exploring the coastline, which is filled with exquisite beaches and enchanting villages, are favorite pastimes. Hikers and birdwatchers delight in the immense natural diversity found in the area’s nature reserve, ‘Parco Naturale Regionale di Portofino.’ The vibrantly green and protected Regional Natural Park of Portofino is full of indigenous trees, plants, and animals, hiking trails, and incredible views of the gorgeous gulf and blue sea below.

The city of #genoa or #genova in Italian is one of the best cities for tourism in #italy and I think it is also my favourite there. I visited it because I boarded on a cruise ship from the port of Genoa. The city is very big with skyscrapers and of course with an amazing old architecture and narrow streets. There is also a hill that offer stunning views.

I almost forgot it if I didn't write it for a long time. I only remember that I was upgraded to the executive floor for free (it seems that there is more capsule coffee). The size and facilities of the room are similar to the previous one. A king size bed plus a Queen size sofa bed is a perfect match for traveling with a baby. There is a delicious West Point House not far from the hotel. I bought a lot of bread, cakes and snacks, and I was very satisfied.
Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace)
#italytrip
Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale is a grand symbol of the city’s political and cultural history. Once the residence of the Doge, Genoa’s highest official during its time as a powerful maritime republic, the palace is now a cultural center that hosts art exhibitions, events, and concerts.
The architecture of the Palazzo Ducale is impressive, with its towering columns, grand staircases, and vast courtyards. Inside, the rooms are adorned with beautiful frescoes, and many of them have been restored to reflect their original grandeur. As you wander through the palace, you’ll get a sense of the opulence and influence that Genoa once held.
Today, the Palazzo Ducale is a lively cultural hub. Temporary exhibitions showcase works by international and Italian artists, and the palace often hosts lectures and performances. The atmosphere of the Palazzo Ducale is one of grandeur mixed with creative energy, making it a must-see for art lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
Each of these five locations captures a different facet of Genoa’s personality, from its maritime legacy to its artistic heritage. Whether you’re strolling along the Porto Antico, admiring the palaces on Via Garibaldi, or relaxing in the seaside village of Boccadasse, Genoa is a city that invites exploration and discovery at every turn. These destinations are sure to leave a lasting impression on your #ItalyTrip!

Doge's Palace
#europetrip The queue wasn’t very long (we went there at 3pm on a Wednesday) but it was extremely crowded inside, we basically followed a line of people from start to finish and the whole experience lasted about 90 minutes. Despite all this it was still enjoyable and the architectural details, the painting and ceilings were stunning. I highly recommend buying tickets online a few weeks in advance. We overheard several people saying they wouldn’t be able to go inside because they weren’t selling any more tickets.

Rugged mountain roads, picturesque villages.
Quiet mountain hills, charming little villages. Portofino, Italy, where I visited over 20 years ago.
It was a rainy afternoon in summer, and the rain was pouring down non-stop. Suddenly, a rainbow appeared between the clouds. At that time, the gentleman was driving with me. I remember we were turning on the narrow mountain road, and I was getting dizzy from the fast turns. Time flies, the gentleman is no longer here, but I revisited the place and felt all kinds of emotions in my heart.
As if in a moment, my daughter has grown up. Watching her run up and down the hillside with an excited smile, I forget the hidden pain in my heart.
The water is blue, and there is a castle next to the small village. There is a shortcut, which is a little steep. With full strength, climb up step by step. In about 20 minutes, you will arrive at this castle. Looking down at the bay below, colorful flowers climb the walls on both sides of the path, and people walk and stop. There is no way, every step is a beautiful scenery, and tourists linger back and forth.
The speed of descending the mountain has increased a lot. When I rushed to the foot of the mountain, I found that there was still mountain spring water flowing down here. I filled a bottle with it casually.
The scenery at the foot of the mountain has a unique charm. On the slope opposite the harbor where ships dock, there is a statue of a rhinoceros, and on the fence next to it, there are six bright pink Meerkats. This is Museo Del Parco (Portofino), the Parco Museum. It is an outdoor museum founded in the early 19th century, located among the flowers and plants on the hillside. Over the past 20 years, it has collected more than 120 sculptures made of different materials from international artists from all over the world.
Walking along the coast, looking around, admiring the sculptures full of artistic atmosphere, and noticing the small harbor filled with boats of different sizes, hanging flags of different countries, as if someone had temporarily moved the United Nations headquarters here.
The shops and restaurants in the village are very lively. Laughter rises and falls, and people are completely immersed in the atmosphere of joy.
We walked and stopped, forgetting our fatigue. Walking along the winding road by the sea for less than 10 minutes, there is a quiet beach suitable for swimming and diving. Unfortunately, there were at least hundreds of people coming down from the big boat, and it quickly filled up here. But everyone crowded together and found a temporary resting place for themselves. Enjoying themselves and not interfering with each other, it was peaceful.
I invite you to come here, my friend.
