Off-Season Gansu Non-Self-Drive Seven Days Six Nights Experience | Dunhuang Edition
Main itinerary: Dunhuang-Zhangye-Lanzhou
Now Gansu is overall in the off-season for tourism, the climate is not very stable, some areas still have snow, and the vegetation has not really sprouted. Locals say it will be more comfortable starting from late April (but there are also fewer people during the off-season)
Day1
Shanghai-Lanzhou-Dunhuang✈️
Transferring at Lanzhou Airport is quite convenient, meal vouchers are provided, p2 is beef noodles and apricot peel tea ordered at Anboer (the egg was brought by myself), it is recommended to add another portion of beef.
p3-5 are taken on the way from Lanzhou to Dunhuang, very spectacular, strongly suggest not to sleep on this part of the flight
Day2 Mogao Caves➕Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring
📍Mogao Caves
I decided to come to Gansu at this time for the off-season discounts of Mogao Caves and Mingsha Mountain, but now (after April 1) the promotion has ended, 280 yuan to see 8 caves, Mingsha Mountain also returned to the original price.
External vehicles can only drive to the Digital Center, where you use your ID card to get tickets, watch two movies (the second one is on a spherical screen, very impressive) then take the scenic area bus to Mogao Caves. You need to queue up and follow the guide into the caves for a visit, each group's route is random. Note that photography is not allowed inside the caves‼️
The visit takes about two hours, if interested, you can buy tickets for special caves, or follow other groups to see the ordinary caves you missed. There is also a museum outside the Mogao Caves worth visiting, and finally take the bus back to the Digital Center to return to the city.
📍Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring
You can see Mingsha Mountain (p9) from the city. It's cheaper to buy shoe covers outside the scenic area, but they don't seem to be very useful as the sand gets everywhere... Fortunately, the sand is very fine and does not hurt your feet. You can ride camels here, but you can't walk to the top of the mountain, you have to walk up to see Crescent Spring.
It is strongly recommended to climb the sand dunes using the ladder (p11), otherwise, it will be very tiring. Even with the ladder, there is a steep section where you need to use hands and feet (I was very scared at the time), it took me about ten minutes to climb up, overall ok. It is recommended to start climbing one hour before sunset, there is about a two-hour time difference between Dunhuang and the East China region, it will not get dark until around eight o'clock.
📍Shazhou Night Market
A place selling various souvenirs. You can also check out Lanzhou Lane nearby, it might be cheaper.
🏨Near Shazhou Night Market
Dunhuang city area is very small, staying near Shazhou Night Market is convenient.
🚘Transportation
There is a bus right outside the airport that takes you to the city center, 10 yuan per person.
Taxis in Dunhuang are very convenient, they are almost instantly booked, and there is a high proportion of female drivers, so it is very safe for girls to come here alone.
You can take bus number 3 to Mingsha Mountain from the city center.
🛍️Outfit
The wind at Mingsha Mountain is a bit strong, it's best to wear a hat and a windbreaker. The sun in Dunhuang is quite strong, pay attention to sun protection and moisturizing.
🍜Eat
Ga Liu Lamb
Recommended signature lamb and braised lamb with bread, apricot peel tea is also good.
Beisong Ice Boiled Lamb (p13)
The taste is okay but a bit expensive.
Si Lu Apricot Peel Tea (p14)
Ordered the iced rose fermented rice drink, incredibly delicious! Missed it dearly after leaving Dunhuang
pps The people in Dunhuang are very friendly and enthusiastic, the service attitude is comparable to Haidilao, rarely seen elsewhere
Lanzhou Airport Guide | The beef noodles for 8 yuan are a conscience price
My stomach misses it very much 🥰 haha
Lanzhou Airport, T2 terminal, on the far right side 👉 there is a snack street. I initially got left and right mixed up, the left side 👈 leads to T1 terminal, and the opposite direction is the snack street 🍽️
The first shop is Jing Mulan, which is said to be very famous. When I was searching for tips before, countless people were recommending it, and it is said that airport staff also eat there. When I went, I indeed saw many people in uniforms.
💰 Price: 8 yuan for a bowl of beef noodles, but it only includes noodles, no meat, meat 🥩 is bought separately. I recommend buying a set meal, 28💰 = a bowl of noodles 🍜 + a portion of meat + a yogurt + a pastry + a side dish, enough to fill up two people.
You can also buy beef separately, you can see the portion in the picture 👀
First go to the front desk to buy, then give the ticket to the staff 👩💼 They will help deliver the meal to the table, very considerate 💗
To be honest, it's really delicious 😋 and really filling!
If you don't eat spicy, make sure to remind the server several times‼️
After eating your fill, you can go to security check 🛂 and board the plane.
A few more words about the airport information 📝 There is a place in the airport hall to buy bus tickets, you can take a bus 🚌 to the city center, or take a high-speed train 🚅, the high-speed train costs 20💰, the bus 40💰, both have timetables, the high-speed train's can be checked on 12306, the bus departs every hour on the dot from 8-16~
🛂 After going through security, there are also some food options, like McDonald's 🍔 Sichuan cuisine, etc., and there's also a place to buy yogurt (I wrote another note specifically on how to buy yogurt)
Lanzhou One-Day Tour - The World's Largest Pear Orchard (Shichuan Pear Orchard)
Located in an ancient town to the northeast of Lanzhou, Gansu - Shichuan. Shichuan Town is about 20 kilometers northeast of Lanzhou, with the Yellow River running through it. The area is famous for its melons and fruits, and is commonly referred to as the 'Little Jiangnan' of the borderlands. What is most breathtaking is the largest pear orchard in China, spanning over ten thousand mu, known as the 'World's First Ancient Pear Orchard'. The orchard covers an area of more than 12,000 mu, with most trees being over three hundred years old. There are over nine thousand ancient pear trees that are over a hundred years old, covering an area of four thousand mu. In 2013, it was officially recorded in the 'Guinness World Records'. The pear trees in the orchard are of various shapes and forms, presenting a spectacular sight, and are acclaimed as 'China's Number One Wonder'. A Japanese botanist called it a 'miracle of the world's plant kingdom', a rare 'living plant specimen' globally, and a precious 'pear orchard museum'. This weekend, let's take a boat to the ancient Shichuan Pear Orchard to enjoy the flowers and check in.

Lintao Wolong Temple
Wolong Temple, built in the late Tang Dynasty, has a history of a thousand years through the Five Dynasties, and became a famous temple during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, Zuo Zongtang, the governor of Shaanxi and Gansu, once donated a stone Buddha to Wolong Temple and handwrote a couplet 'The Dharma wheel turns itself in the sea of Bodhi, and the pure land flows long in the spring of merit.'
Wolong Temple, in the long history, has experienced vicissitudes, several ups and downs, and has been rebuilt, making the ancient temple of the past reappear its majesty.
