My first trip to Xinjiang, and today I visited the Tianshan Grand Canyon and Heavenly Lake. To be honest, I used to think of Urumqi as a very chaotic and backward place. Many of my friends in Taiwan questioned why I would want to travel to such a backward place as Xinjiang. But you really have to experience it yourself to understand the beauty of Xinjiang! One of my Favorite Mountains in China, 天山

If you ever head to Xinjiang, Tianshan is a must! Whether it’s winter or Summer it’s beautiful all year round. I prefer the snow so I decided to go in the Winter and the lake is frozen so you can explore even more. The park is huge and about an hour from Urumqi so, you can spend the day here. The lake is located an hr outside the city. we missed a bus at 8:30am from peoples park which take you directly to the site. In the end managed to get a didi/taxi to the site. At the car park you get out and head for a police registration for all foreigners. This took about 20 minutes. in the end they give you a piece of paper which says you buy tickets. The ticket line was short and it’s 150rmb entrance. the first shuttle take ls you to an area of restaurants. The food is cheap and there is lots of options. From there you take another shuttle bus. then there is a short walk to the lake. There is a 5k walk around the lake and you can take a boats across also. A great site to visit.

God of mountains: Tianshan

Tian Shan Mountains, also called Tien Shan, Celestial Mountains or Heavenly Mountains, is a large system of mountain range situated in the Eurasia hinterland. The highest No. 4 viewing platform can be shoulder to shoulder with Bogda Snow Mountain. If you are with a one-day group, or if you don't have enough time, It is recommended to rush directly to the highest No. 4 viewing platform to see the snow mountain. Take fewer photos when climbing the ladder, and the aerial view of Tianchi is not as good as the shore. Looking at the surrounding continuous snow-capped mountains is like entering a fantasy, this distance, not far or near, just right. beauty. Although the sense of existence is lower than Mayashan, I personally think that the scenery on the top is worth climbing. And the road during the climb also feels more like wandering in the forest. I don't like the well-built artificial stone steps of Mayashan, which are a bit boring to climb. And there are more deer here than Mayashan during the climb, which adds a bit of interest.

Tianshan Tianchi: Climb to the top of Mayashan and touch the Bogda Peak.

Personally, if it weren't for the reputation of Tianshan Tianchi, Mayashan would not be famous, but it would not lose to many famous mountain scenery, and even slightly better, it is really worth climbing to the top!

You Must Go to Heavenly Lake while it’s not yet crowded!

We just booked a a return tour bus using trip app and the tour guide on the bus just helped us purchase the entry ticket and all the activities you will do inside the forest park. There are available boats if you want to experience the lake by boat or you want to go on top of a mountain and see the bird’s eye view of the lake. You will need to take a cable car to get there which is probably included in your payment. It is 2 hours away from Urumqi and the temperature there is a colder than the city so make sure to wrap up . Tents were available near the lake at the end of the northern road that runs south from the North visitor center. The 12km + round trip had only one challenging ascent but the views along the way we're breathtaking!!

Tianchi is located in Fukang, Xinjiang, not far from Urumqi. The tourist flow is quite large in early July. There are many shuttle buses inside, and the distance to go up the mountain is relatively long. The entire scenic area is centered around Tianchi. The waterfall in the picture is Feilongjian, and a beautiful rainbow was captured 🌈. The water is very clear. Further up, you need to take a cable car to see a corner of the Tianshan Mountains. There are many steps here, which takes 2-3 hours. As you walk higher, the full view of Tianchi gradually comes into view. It is still very beautiful, just a lot of steps.

Tianshan Tianchi

Tianshan Tianchi, also known as Tianchi National Geopark, was historically called 'Yaochi'. The first destination in Urumqi is always the Tianchi (Heavenly Lake) in the Tianshan Mountains. Tianchi is about 50 kilometers from Urumqi city. Self-driving visitors need to park their cars in the parking lot and transfer to the scenic area bus to enter Tianchi. The scenic area bus usually takes about forty to fifty minutes from the main gate to the Tianchi scenic spot, which is a relatively long time, so visitors need to allocate sufficient time. Tianchi's water comes from the clear snow water of the Tianshan Mountains. Under the blue sky, Tianchi looks like a transparent emerald embedded deep in the Tianshan Mountains, with beautiful scenery. From the Tianchi scenic spot, visitors can continue to climb higher, first by cable car and then on foot, reaching an altitude of about 3,000 meters. Overlooking Tianchi from this height offers a different view. The last bus from the Tianchi scenic spot to the main gate of the scenic area ends at 9:30 pm, so pay attention to the return time.

Xinjiang Second Stop - Tianshan Tianchi

I came in April and directly bought a one-day round trip ticket from Urumqi International Passenger Station to Tianshan Tianchi. The bus fare is quite cost-effective, but the ticket + shuttle bus round trip is not cost-effective, as it only includes the first section of the shuttle bus. The second section of the shuttle bus and the cable car require additional payment. The scenery of Tianshan Tianchi in April is generally average. The scenery along the way is relatively dry, except for the initial stunning view of Tianchi, the snow-capped mountains, the frozen lake, and the snow-covered pine forest. Other than that, Tianchi is under maintenance and you can't walk around the lake, you can only visit half of it. The Wangmu Niangniang Temple also requires an additional fee. To reach the final snow-capped peak, the cable car fee is about two hundred yuan for a round trip, which is a bit expensive, especially since the ticket is already nearly four hundred yuan. The cost performance is quite poor. Overall, it is not recommended to visit Tianshan Tianchi in April. It would be better to visit in summer or autumn when it is more beautiful.
