Trains run infrequently, so it's important to check the train schedule in advance. Snapping a photo with the red tourist train, the "Iyonada Monogatari," is also popular. However, priority is given to passengers on this train when taking photos nearby! Be sure to listen carefully to the explanations given by the station volunteers. If you're visiting by car, you can use the free parking lot near the station, but please be aware of narrow roads and follow traffic rules. Simply turn on the tap to fill your glass. The differences in color and aroma are immediately noticeable, and once you take a sip, the distinct sharp acidity, gentle sweetness, and lingering aftertaste of each variety become clear. I opted for the shop's recommendations: Natsuumi, the trendy Shiranui, and the intriguingly named Kiyomi. Starting from Songshan Station, it takes about fifty minutes to reach the most beautiful unmanned train station, Xiatan Station. The buses here cannot use transportation cards, so you have to buy tickets on site! After getting off the bus, you can take a few photos near the station (there are a lot of people). Walk along the road on the right and you will see a small rocky beach. I went down the stairs toward the beach and after a short walk you can see the railroad tracks. There are three in total. There are fewer people here than at the station, so you can take more photos. There will be many students sitting together in the car after 3 o'clock. It will be more convenient if you drive yourself. 📍Ehime Prefecture We spent two days and one night touring Ehime Prefecture. We planned to fulfill my niece's request to ride the Anpanman train. However, the hot springs are fun for adults and children alike. Here are the places we visited. ⚫︎Anpanman train The train was filled with Anpanman. The kids were in a good mood and it was a happy memory. ⚫︎Dogo Onsen streetscape A retro station building that retains the atmosphere of the Meiji era. There are many photo spots such as the "Botchan train" and the clock tower. 📸 A must-see spot for eating and buying souvenirs. ⚫︎Enmanji Temple Enmanji Temple is located near the main building of Dogo Onsen. The colorful love luck item "Omusubi ball" is photogenic and cute. ✨ ⚫︎Shimonada Station A popular spot for watching the sunset. 🚉 I learned that it was a filming location for the drama "HERO", so it's a must-see spot for my generation. The shortest route connecting Kyushu and Shikoku! Boarding time is 1 hour and 10 minutes. [National Route Kyushu Ferry]🚢 Did you know that you can go directly from Kyushu to Shikoku, and from Shikoku to Kyushu? You can actually cross in a flash✨ It connects Saganoseki, Oita Prefecture, and Misaki, Ehime Prefecture. What's more, even though it's a boat, it's treated as a national highway😊 It's a national highway that is a series of roads, including over the sea⭐️ You can board the boat if there is space available without a reservation, but if you make a reservation online, you can get your ticket by just holding up the QR code! The great thing is that if you purchase a round-trip ticket, you can freely change your return trip after the ticket is issued! First time in Ehime! So, I'd like to introduce some recommended spots in Ehime Prefecture, which I visited for the first time✨ There are many tourist spots such as Dogo Onsen, Saka no Ue no Kumo Museum, Uwajima Castle, Imabari Castle, etc.! If you visit the castle tower, you can also visit the turret. The weather was nice, so the Shimanami Kaido was clearly visible from the castle tower. At the turret, we were able to learn how attacks were made from the castle during wars. ・ Clouds Above the Hill Museum The Clouds Above the Hill Museum is based on the novel "Clouds Above the Hill." You can explore the museum while learning about the culture and history of the Taisho period depicted in the novel. If you like modern times, you might be hooked! 【Food】 ・Sushiemon Sushiemon is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant with its main store in Uwajima. There is also a store in Matsuyama city, but we went to the main store in Uwajima! It was refreshing to be able to eat nigiri sushi made from fresh fish caught at the fishing port 🐟✨ ・Original Uwajima Taimeshi "Marumizu" If you search for taimeshi, you will definitely find "Marumizu". It is written as "Marumizu" and pronounced as "gansui". I heard that there is a restaurant near the ropeway to Matsuyama Castle, so I had it for dinner on my last day in Ehime! Shimanami Kaido is located in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. Seven or so islands are connected between Imabari and Hiroshima Prefecture via large bridges, and cycling is recommended! The spots with the large bridges on the prefectural borders are particularly impressive! There is a lodging near Omishima Island in the middle, and since it would be tough to cycle the whole way in one day, we stayed there. The Sadamisaki Peninsula in Ikata-cho, Ehime Prefecture, is one of my favorite view spots. The beautiful sea, the mountains visible on the opposite shore, and the windmills on top of them. It's a special view that can only be seen here. The breakwater that the high school students were in the middle of drawing was also a cool design. "Oriko no Sato" in Ikata-cho, Ehime Prefecture, is a traditional culture experience facility that uses a building that was once an elementary school. This is a travelogue from Minetopia Besshi and the Tonaru District, where you can experience the history and heritage of Ehime Prefecture's former Besshi Copper Mine! [Minetopia Besshi] As a roadside station, it offers souvenir and dining options, as well as hot springs. And, best of all, it's a mine tour! You can actually ride a locomotive and enter the old mine. This locomotive ride also offers a sense of adventure while enjoying the beautiful scenery! Inside the caves of the old mine, exhibits that show the workings of the mine in the past are scattered like attractions. The moving mechanical dolls are also a must-see. There is also a video viewing area where you can watch actual footage from the past. It really gives you a sense of what it was like working there, risking your life. [Former Besshi Copper Mine Tonaru District] About a 20-minute drive up the mountain from Minetopia Besshi, the Tonaru district lies at an altitude of 750 meters. It was once a prosperous town, and is said to have been called the Machu Picchu of the East. There are still remains of some buildings, and you can see what they were like. Seeing the remains of this once prosperous area evokes a sense of romance and a touch of loneliness. At the museum, you can see documents and videos of life in the past, and I was amazed to learn that some people spent their entire lives at such a high altitude. It really shows that there was culture here. [Information and Warnings] - Minetopia Besshi mine tours require a fee. - Inside the cave, there are sensor-activated machines that activate when someone passes by, which can be a little eerie when there aren't many other tourists. - Note that the road to the Higashinaru area is closed in winter, making it inaccessible. - The roads to the Higashinaru area are narrow, so driving by car is difficult unless you're a confident driver! If you're not confident, we recommend taking a tour bus.

A tofu set meal that's a big hit with women! Not only is it cute to look at, but the taste and quantity are satisfying too. You're eating something healthy, and the cake is healthy too, so no guilt! ✨ A shop that makes its own stone-ground tofu, and the breakfast is all tofu. I was blown away after just one bite! It was completely different from the tofu I usually eat....so sweet!! As the only one of Japan's Twelve Ancient Castles to retain its original Edo-era appearance, Matsuyama Castle is tucked away atop Katsuyama in Ehime's Matsuyama. My spontaneous, unplanned visit allowed me to appreciate its unique charm—a blend of historical richness and everyday charm. At the foot of the mountain, small shops selling mandarin oranges are dotted everywhere. Ehime's abundant production of mandarin oranges is juicy and sour, and freshly squeezed juice is a refreshing and refreshing treat, perfect for ascending the stone path. The climb isn't steep, the stone slabs worn smooth by time. Lush vegetation flanks the sides, and birds occasionally chirp. When tired, rest against the Edo-era stone walls. These rough stones are stacked in a staggered pattern, their crevices wedged in moss, feeling moist and cool to the touch. It's hard to imagine how the craftsmen, without the aid of machinery, could have carried the massive stones up the mountain to build the castle. Along the way, I often encountered locals strolling and students visiting, and their friendly greetings made the climb particularly enjoyable. As you approach the castle tower, the wooden stairs creak under your feet, mingling with a faint woody aroma and a light dusty odor, a sense of age washes over you. Inside, antique armor and swords from the past are on display. Though slightly rusted and faded, the armor's patterns remain intricate, and the swords' sharp outlines remain. Simple guide signs detail the castle's construction and the stories of its successive guardians, allowing you to easily understand the city's past without searching. Climbing to the top of the castle tower is a must-do. The moment you open the door, a panoramic view of Matsuyama City and the Seto Inland Sea unfolds. Modern buildings contrast with the azure sea and green mountains, while the black tiles of the ancient city walls act as a natural frame, skillfully blending the past and present. Later in the tour, I sat on a stone bench by the castle wall. The drooping pine branches nearby blocked the scorching sun, and the breeze carried the fragrance of the trees. Looking up, I could see the outline of the castle tower and, in the distance, a glimpse of the azure sea, a truly soothing experience. Dogo Onsen, located at the foot of the mountain, is the inspiration for the hot springs in "Spirited Away." After exploring the ancient castle, soak in the thousand-year-old hot springs and savor a local mandarin orange dessert or chewy Sanuki udon to rejuvenate. Hotel Tsubakikan is an 8-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station. 📍〒790-0836 5-32 Dogosagiyamachi, Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture FAX: 089-943-1743 Parking: Available, 60 spaces, 880 yen per night (tax included) We stayed in a Japanese-Western style room. The room was very spacious and clean. ✨ The hot spring water is a simple alkaline spring, and there was also an open-air bath. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. ♪ The hairdryers in the women's bath were all from ReFa! Meals were served buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner. It gets crowded during peak times, so I recommend going right at the start of the meal times! There were many local dishes, and they were delicious! At night, there was a live performance of the Suigun Taiko (naval drum) in the 1st-floor lobby starting at 8:40 PM (with some non-performance days). We were able to enjoy the traditional art of Iyo, the Suigun Taiko, performed live! It was powerful, and everyone was watching! The hotel also has a gift shop, and for an additional fee, there are karaoke and table tennis areas available! Being close to the Dogo Onsen shopping street made it very convenient. I would love to stay at this hotel again.

📍Trip Overview Exploring Ehime by car! 🚩Route First, we parked the car at the ryokan before check-in and walked to the Dogo Onsen area! We enjoyed street food, browsed souvenirs, and strolled around. At 3 PM, we checked into the ryokan and relaxed. After dinner, we went back to the onsen area—the nighttime atmosphere was lovely. The next day, we visited roadside stations and JA markets by car, ending the trip at Poeme Park! We enjoyed freshly made Poeme sweets and ice cream. You can also see how Poeme is made! 🏖️Instagrammable Spot The shop in the third photo, where orange juice flows from a faucet, is very photogenic 🍊. You can try various flavors! 🚇Transportation Dogo Onsen Station is nearby, and the Botchan Train runs there! Be sure to check the schedule in advance. 📷Recommended Photo Spots Everyone was taking pictures of the Botchan Dango 🍡. You can choose three flavors yourself, and they’re not only cute but also delicious. 🍜Must-Try Gourmet We noticed a restaurant called Marubune serving tai-meshi (sea bream rice). We went without a reservation but managed to get in! You can choose between wild or farmed sea bream. It was so delicious that we couldn’t stop eating the rice (you can get refills). 🏠Recommended Accommodation We stayed at Tsubakikan. It’s a historic ryokan, but the renovated rooms were very clean. The onsen water is sourced from Dogo Onsen, and the open-air bath was very relaxing ♨️. The buffet meals were also delicious! 💡Tips Even if you don’t stay in the Dogo Onsen area, you can park and still enjoy it fully! Note that some souvenir shops close a bit early, so check their hours in advance!
