Roaming the grounds of My Son Sanctuary, so many beautiful ruins around. Some are being rebuilt carefully as they don’t want to destroy or diminish the original ruins of this huge temple. When visitors also come to visit, they are careful not to touch or deface any of the structures. The sanctuary is huge and surrounded by nature, it was really nice to see the structures even in their destructed conditions. Here is another introduction to Vietnam's World Heritage sites☺️ In April this year, I went on a motorbike tour of seven of the eight World Heritage sites🛵🛵🛵🇻🇳 The sites I'm introducing this time are about an hour's drive from Da Nang or Hoi An (I went about two hours by motorbike from Hoi An🙆‍♀️🛵) My Son Sanctuary (World Heritage Site, 1999), a sacred place for the Hindu god Shiva in the Champa Kingdom My Son Sanctuary was discovered in 1885 and research and preservation activities were carried out, but it was bombed by the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, and many of the ruins were destroyed, and some ruins look as if they are about to collapse at any moment, so restoration work is still being carried out. At the last rest area, there is a traditional Cham dance show Every day, from 9:15, 10:45, 14:00, and 15:30, You can watch it for 20 minutes at your leisure🥺 I was able to watch it from 14:00😊 In Group G, there are some kind of shows twice a day, at 10:00 and 14:45🙄🙄 (According to the sign, it says it depends on the weather. Location: Duy Phú, Duy Xuyên District, Quảng Nam, Vietnam About 45 mins drive from Hoi An old town, we came to visit the ruined Hindo temples that were constructed between the 4th and the 14th century by the Kings of Champa, an Indianized kingdom of the Cham people (according to Wikipedia :) I have been to a number of Hindu Temples, of which Angkor Wat being the greatest, Bali as well as Thailand Ayutthaya, there almost resemble some similarities in somewhere or what not. My Son Sanctuary was considered a smaller scale with 7 sites, (B,C,D is the biggest complex of the ruins) if I could compare, but it's still worth a visit. Tickets cost 150.000 VND for adults and 40.000 VND for children. There are few ways to get here, but we have hired a local driver that makes our time more flexible to travel from one place to another. I mean, it's UNESCO world heritage, so obviously a must see. We booked a private tour with pick-up from Hoi An. Expensive but worth it to have a local guide that can explain everything. We also went very early (8 AM) which is definitely a good idea! No hundreds of tourists disturbing the peace but rather enjoying the sereen environment where My Son is situated. Also the sun was burning already like hell so we were very happy we didn't go any later in the day. the site itself is big with plenty of temples. While all dedicated tot he same god there are differences between them. Lot's of international cooperation to restore the temples which makes it easier to imagine how they would've looked. A real shame that the war damaged so many of them. It would've been amazing to see them while still in one piece! #bucketlistreboot

From HoiAn hotel, we chartered a private car which took about 1.5 hours journey. My Son Sanctuary is a complex of ancient Hindu temples dedicated to the worship of Shiva, built between the 4th and 14th centuries in Quang Nam province. Strolling leisurely around, it feels as if you're immersing yourself in history. Taking photos here makes you feel like you're stepping into an ancient scene. 🇻🇳The Harmonious Hoi An🇻🇳 A lot of the My Son temples were lost then it was overtaken by the jungle, and the natural world swallowed the remains of the culture that had thrived for almost a millennium…and today these are what remains of this historical ancient place. After being lost, My Son was finally rediscovered by the French in 1898. They then embarked on a restoration project, realising the significance of the site. Fast forward to August 1969 when much of this restoration work was undone, and in just one week, American B52s carpet bombed the site during an intense period of fighting during the Vietnam War. The section of My Son with the largest temples – the most impressive and most holy – was turned into a pile of rubble. 🇻🇳The Harmonious Hoi An🇻🇳 This is one of the main ruins in My Son Sanctuary and continuing on to my story in my previous posts… Because the Champa people faced threats from the Khmer Empire in Cambodia, other ethnic groups in Vietnam, and even from the Chinese, they needed protection to defend their kingdom. In the end, though, it was the Vietnamese who gained control of this region in the 11th century and forced the Champa to move south, closer to Nha Trang, although their leaders managed to maintain the temple complex for a couple more centuries. It was the central worshipping centre for the Champa people who had five kingdoms in the surrounding areas. The Champa had come from Java in Indonesia and brought with them their Hindu religion. My Son was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The god Shiva was the bringer of the wishes of the Champa people and the thing they wished for most was fertility. When it comes to scenic spots with Chinese and Vietnamese characteristics, in addition to the often-heard Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue There is a world cultural heritage about an hour's drive from Da Nang and Hoi An, which is My Son Sanctuary. It is known as Vietnam’s Little Angkor Wat, and the park is a world heritage site of the Champa Kingdom. In addition to the buildings, you can also see Cham dance performances when visiting the park. Although the English name of Meishan Holy Land is My Son, the pronunciation is not my son, but pronounced like Mi Son. It was listed as a World Cultural Heritage in 1999. Therefore, it is recommended that you come here with a group to get there easily. It only takes less than 1 minute to walk from the parking lot to the entrance.

My Son Ruins. About an hours drive from Hoi An. Ancient ruins. Absolutely stunning! Built with many influences involving, Khmer, North Vietnamese, South Vietnamese, West Vietnamese and Roman. Some of the ruins were damaged by bombings from the Vietnam War. This just adds to the eeriness and ambience of the site. Highly recommended 🙏

My Son Sanctuary dates from the 4th to the 13th centuries CE. It is located in the mountainous border Duy Xuyen District of Quang Nam Province, in central Viet Nam. The My Son Sanctuary is a remarkable architectural ensemble that developed over a period of ten centuries. It presents a vivid picture of spiritual and political life in an important phase of the history of South-East Asia. It will take two hours to drive from Da Nang.

Best to get a tour guide around the place since it is almost 1hour car journey from the Old Town and is rather big. Will be good to have some background history of the place rather than just walking around aimlessly
