Kenya | Beach camels, cave restaurants, and a mix of love and hate for Mombasa

After ending our safari, we spent 4 days in Mombasa, Kenya's second largest city, to rest. There is a historic old town by the sea, as well as excellent beach resorts. Here are a few things to do in Mombasa — 🏖️Holiday at Diani Beach Diani Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Kenya. The sea is beautiful and it's a one and a half hour drive from Mombasa city. There are many resorts along the beach, and after the safari, you can find one to lie down for two days to fully recover. We stayed at Diamond Leisure, where you can see blue 🪺 monkeys everywhere in the hotel, which is a sight in itself 😂. 🐫Camel riding on the beach Every day on the beach, there are people who herd camels for tourists to take photos. This is a very commercialized activity, but the photos are really good! African camels are very tall and gentle, and it's worth a ride if you encounter them. 🪨Cave restaurant This is a famous restaurant near Diani Beach. The environment is indeed great, located in a natural cave formed tens of thousands of years ago, and it's very romantic at dusk. However, the food is very average, mainly for the atmosphere, and you need to book in advance. 🛕Old town walking tour Mombasa's old town is undeniably charming. Influenced by Arabs for centuries, the streets are heavily Islamic. Women walk in incredibly vibrant folk costumes, the streets are crowded with various tuk-tuks, and the old streets form a very characteristic cityscape. But ❗️There are few tourists on the old town road, and you should not go out alone. We joined a free walking tour and dared to move around the city with a local guide. The itinerary includes Mombasa's most important historical site, Jesus Fort, as well as old town alleys, spice markets, and ivory gates. We met a few children asking for money and brokers trying to solicit business. If there is no guide, it is not safe, so be careful. 🚤View the city coastline In Mombasa, we stayed in the newer and wealthier area of English Point Hotel, which is relatively better and safer. From here you can see the old town across a bay, the staggered buildings and the piers stretching out from the sea surface reminded me of Venice for a moment. · ⚠️Finally, be aware of safety in Mombasa. On our last day here, we were discriminated against by an Uber driver, which was the only unpleasant experience of the trip. This place is very distinctive, but if you are not an experienced traveler, you can skip Mombasa city and spend two or three days at a beach resort.

OVERVIEW This safari covers Amboseli National Park and Tsavo East National. ITINERARY DAY 1. AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK, AMBOSELI SERENA SAFARI LODGE, MEAL PLAN IS FULL BOARD You will be met by our company representative upon arrival in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at around 06:00 and straight away be taken to Amboseli National Park where you shall arrive time for game viewing drives enroute to the lodge to arrive time for lunch. In the afternoon from 15:30 you would have game viewing drive until time for dinner and overnight at 18:30. DAY 2. AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK, AMBOSELI SERENA SAFARI LODGE, MEAL PLAN IS FULL BOARD This day you will wake up at the bulk of Mount Kilimanjora for tea or coffee and a snack then depart for game viewing drives from 06:30 until time for full breakfast at 08:00 then another game viewing drive from 10:00 to 13:00 time for lunch in the lodge. The afternoon shall be spend as well in the park doing game viewing drive or opt to visit the Masai Villa the area being the home of Masai people who are plain Nilotic. You shall revert to the lodge at 18:30 for refreshments then dinner and overnight. DAY 3. TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK, ASHNIL ARUBA LODGE, MEAL PLAN IS FULL BOARD This day you will wake up for breakfast at 07:00 then depart for Tsavo East National Park where you shall arrive time for lunch. In the afternoon from 15:30 would be time for game viewing drive until time for refreshments in the lodge at 18:30 then dinner and overnight at in the lodge. DAY 4. TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK, ASHNIL ARUBA LODGE, MEAL PLAN IS FULL BOARD Early in the morning at 06:00 you would take tea or coffee and a snack then depart for morning game viewing drives reverting time for breakfast at 08:00 then another game viewing drive from 10:00 until time lunch at 13:00 in the camp. The whole afternoon from 15:30 would be game viewing drives until time for refreshments in the lodge at 18:30 then dinner and overnight. DAY 5. KENYA COAST Early in the morning at 07:00 you would take breakfast followed by game viewing drive enroute to Nairobi City or down to the Kenya coast arriving at around 13:00. Please note that this day lunch will not be included. End of this safari. #2024wish WHITE SAND, THE BLUEST WATER On October 2023 I travelled to Diani an area in Mombasa Kenya and had the most amazing time. The hotel is next to the ocean so I would go swimming before noon and go snorkeling in the afternoon. The hotels pool was also great and since Diani is hot through the year, relaxing in the pool in the evening was one of the best feeling!

Getting There - Fly to Ukunda Airport from anywhere in Kenyan and then take a taxi or rickshaw to Asha Boutique Hotel. Attractions - The Indian Ocean in all it's glory sweeping and slapping against the white sandy beaches of Diani. Shimba Hills, Diani Monkey Sanctuary, Diani Gallery, The Sands at Nomad's.
