Zurich, the Swiss financial center

Zurich is the largest city and financial centre in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zurich. It is located in north-central Switzerland, at the northwestern end of Lake Zurich. As of 2011, the Zurich metropolitan area had a population of 1.83 million. It has the country's largest airport and busiest train station, making it a hub for rail, road, and air traffic in Switzerland. Zurich was originally founded by the Loma people and has a history of more than 2,000 years. However, archaeological research has revealed that early human settlements dating back more than 6,400 years have been discovered on this land. In the Middle Ages, Zurich gained an independent and privileged status directly under the Empire, and in 1519, under the Swiss Reformation leader Huldrich Zwingli, it became the main center of the Protestant Reformation in Europe. There are many museums and art galleries in the city, including the Swiss National Museum and Art Gallery.
