Southern Fujian's cultural landscapes are far superior to its natural ones, with all three of its World Heritage sites being cultural heritages, while Fujian's two natural heritages are located in Northern Fujian. However, Southern Fujian also boasts a world-class awesome natural landscape: the Nanding Island in the sea outside Zhengmei Village in Zhangzhou. The entire island is composed of uniformly shaped pentagonal or hexagonal columnar basalt, with a total of 1.4 million columns, the most in the world, far exceeding the 200,000 columns of the Giant's Causeway on the coast of Ireland. In 2021, it became one of China's first batch of geological parks, and it is also the only marine geomorphological volcanic park in the country. If you want to see volcanic landscapes, you can go to the neighboring Zhangzhou Xiaobing Island Gangliao next to the Nanding Island pier in Zhengmei Village, where you can also see large expanses of black volcanic rock.
