The 'Dajing Gate', one of the four major passes of the Great Wall

Dajing Gate is located at the northern end of Qiaoxi District, Zhangjiakou City. It is a famous pass of the Ming Great Wall and one of the four major passes of the Great Wall. Dajing Gate, as the only famous pass along the Great Wall named with 'gate'. Different from the common 'building a tower on the gate', there are no buildings on the platform on top of the Dajing Gate, which is integrated with the Great Wall. The arch in the center of the city gate, with a huge size of 13 meters deep, 12 meters high, and 9 meters wide, sets the record for the largest gate of the Great Wall. Above the two wooden iron doors of Dajing Gate, there is a huge plaque with the four characters 'Great Rivers and Mountains' written on it. This was written by Gao Weiyue, the then commander of Chahar in 1927, and has now become a symbol of Zhangjiakou. This plaque also has the artistic feature of palindrome. Not only does it read 'Great Rivers and Mountains' in a profound sense, but also 'The Rivers and Mountains are so Great' when read backwards, which has a unique charm. Great Rivers and Mountains
