[More worth visiting than Jungfraujoch] Zermatt Gornergrat Observation Deck

When it comes to traveling to Switzerland, most people’s focus must be on the Jungfraujoch, and I am no exception! On the contrary, I decided to add Zermatt and the Gornergrat viewing platform to my itinerary only a few weeks before departure... I feel very lucky because I almost missed this unforgettable attraction! Zermatt is a car-free town that attaches great importance to environmental protection. The only local means of transportation are electric cars and horse-drawn carriages. As soon as I left the train station, the first thing I saw was an electric taxi, and then I saw the Gornergrat Railway ticket office which was very close to the train station. We bought tickets on site using the ticket machine, which was very easy to use and we could pay with a credit card. It was around 9:30 in the morning and the mountain was already crowded with citizens preparing to go skiing. Although it was already spring in April, there was still thick snow on the mountain. Moreover, the weather was nice today. It was the best day since I came to Switzerland. The locals also took advantage of the weather to enjoy their vacation! I didn’t do any research before setting off, I just knew that I could see the Matterhorn and Switzerland’s highest mountain – Dufourspitze – from the Gornergrat viewing platform. When I stepped into the carriage with excitement, I suddenly heard a familiar language! A Chinese uncle said to his family: "You must sit on the right side to see the Matterhorn!" Hahahaha! Thank you so much for your information uncle! We immediately took seats on the right side, and during the 33-minute ascent, we didn’t even rest our eyes! From the foot of the mountain, to the mountainside, to the final station, every place is a beautiful sight. As the train travels to different levels, you can appreciate the Matterhorn from different angles! [Some tips for first-time visitors] 1) There are lockers at Zermatt station where you can store your luggage! If you are moving to Zermatt from another city with luggage and will not be staying here that night (for example, our itinerary was to go to the Gornergrat observation deck and then go straight to Zurich), you may need to find a place to temporarily store your luggage like we did. There is a locker down the stairs on the right side of Zermatt Station. It is very easy to use. First, put your luggage in the locker, and then pay with a credit card at the machine nearby. 2) The observation deck is located at an altitude of about 3,130 meters. The possibility of causing altitude sickness is not too high, but it is recommended to walk slowly after reaching the mountain to give the body time to adapt to the high mountain area.
