If you’re planning to visit #zaanseschans , you don’t need to book any expensive group tours, it’s super easy (and cheap!) to get there on your own from Amsterdam Central Station. Take Bus 800 from the second floor (upstairs) of Central Station. This bus goes directly to Zaanse Schans, requires much less walking than the train, and you can tap your bank card directly on board. The ride takes around 20–25 minutes and drops you right by the windmills. There’s also a train option (about 17 minutes), but it involves a 20-minute walk after arrival, so personally, I recommend the bus. Once you arrive, I suggest starting your visit with a walk through the nature path behind the museum, on the right side of the #windmills . It’s a lovely, peaceful route with great photo spots from a distance: green fields, canals, and people strolling by the windmills. The path eventually brings you to the end of the windmill row, and from there you can loop back toward the main area, getting even closer for more photos. After exploring the windmills, you’ll find plenty of cute Dutch-style shops selling cheese, chocolate, pancakes, and souvenirs. There are even sheep and cows grazing nearby, which adds to the countryside charm. You don’t need a ticket to enter the area, but going inside the windmills does require one, though honestly, the outside views are more than enough. Overall, you can enjoy everything here in about 3 hours. It’s a perfect escape from Amsterdam’s city vibe; calm, green, and truly local. Highly recommended! 🌿🌷
