Week 20: Hiking the one-day route of the Tra King Trail in Ailao Mountain ⛰️Hiking Guide 1️⃣Route: Located in the "Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve", the hiking starting point is opposite the west gate of the Jinshan Primeval Forest. Because the route is in the primeval forest, there are many dangerous factors, so you need to find a local hiking guide. 2️⃣Diet: 2L water and a road meal 3️⃣Equipment: bag, hiking shoes (waterproof), sun protection clothing and hats, raincoats, jackets and pants, alcohol or old-style pest killer (sprayed on shoes is very useful for leeches, from Learned from the guide), trekking poles, headlamp ⛰️ Date of hiking: August 24, 2024 ⛰️ Details of hiking 1️⃣ Location: Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province 2️⃣Highest altitude: 2777m 3️⃣Route: The crossing line is 12km. The entire route travels through the virgin forest. This line is a small part of the Tea King Trail. It is a relatively safe route developed by the local outdoor team. The section we went to is still in the virgin forest. Periphery (last picture). There are leeches in most places along the route during the rainy season, and there are quite a lot of them. Remember to take protection in advance. Fortunately, our guide has a way to deal with leeches, that is, spraying pest killer on the shoes, and no leeches were sucked along the way. Moreover, there are many dangerous factors in the primitive forest, such as fog, bears, poisonous snakes, etc. The fog in the primitive forest has visibility of less than one meter, making it easy for people to lose their way. 4️⃣Climbing: The overall climb is about 700 meters 5️⃣Time taken: about 8 hours 6️⃣Climate: When we went there, the temperature in the forest was similar to that in Kunming, but it was very hot in Gasa. 7️⃣Communication: No mobile phone signal 8️⃣Supply: There is no supply throughout the whole process, but there is water. ⛰️Nearby hiking routes: Ailao Mountain Yanziya Waterfall 🚗Itinerary guide Day1: Go to Xinping Gasa Town or stay one night near the hiking point the night before hiking. It takes about 2 and a half hours' drive from Kunming to Gasa one way, and about an hour's drive from Gasa to the starting point of the hike (it is a national highway, the distance is short, and there are many detours). Note: 1️⃣It sometimes gets foggy near the starting point of the hike, and the visibility is so low that you can barely see the road. Fortunately, we had Brother Xiao, a driving expert who had driven the Sichuan-Tibet line six or seven times, otherwise we wouldn’t know if we could drive to the inn. 2️⃣There are almost no shops near the starting point of the hike. Remember to buy supplies in Gasa Town in advance.
