The Centennial History of the Tokuso Office: From a Japanese-era official residence to a local cultural hub

Built around 1931, the Tokuso Office was a symbol of local administration during the Japanese colonial era. The wooden frame, stone-washed walls, black-tiled sloping roof, and ventilation corridors reveal architectural elements from the Showa period. After the war, the building was converted into a government office and police station. After years of inactivity, it was restored thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Culture and local authorities. Old House Restoration: Preserving Historical Textures and Infusing Living Soul The restoration process adhered to the principle of "preserving the original appearance, restoring the old as it was." From the wooden beams and columns, Japanese paper doors, stone-washed facades, and stucco ceilings, every detail was meticulously restored to its original character.
