When you visit Yuncheng in Shanxi, you must firmly press the gas pedal to see this lonely Tang Dynasty brick pagoda

Master Panzhou's Pagoda, the loneliest and most beautiful pagoda I encountered on this trip — located on the ruins of Baoguo Temple in the north of Siqū Village, with the adjacent temples and mountain gates no longer in existence. It took some effort to find a small iron gate that wasn't locked, and with a gentle push, it opened. This is a very well-preserved pavilion-style circular Tang Dynasty brick pagoda, and it's just the pagoda. 📍📍📍 The base of the pagoda is very beautiful, made of brick into a cylindrical shape with very smooth lines. On top of the platform is a sumeru base, which then connects to the brick-built circular pagoda body. The body of the pagoda is hollow, with the main entrance facing south, and the threshold, door jambs, and lintel all appear to be made of stone. 😊 The waist of the pagoda is carved with pointed lotus leaves and decorated with diamond patterns between the upper and lower owls. Zooming in on the carvings of the doors and windows above and the ornaments of the pagoda spire, they are all surprisingly intact, having withstood the wind and rain for over a thousand years. ♥️♥️ According to the books, Master Panzhou's Pagoda is currently the only existing example of a circular Tang pagoda and is unique.​ For this reason, the trip, despite its twists and turns, was very worthwhile.
