Furong

October 9th – Furong Ancient City (also known as the Hibiscus City). This town's history spans over 2,000 years. The distance from Fenghuang to Furong is 117.8 km, and we traveled by train. There's an entrance fee; I booked a ticket through Trip. (Ticket required, city open: 7:30 AM to 11:00 PM) The ancient city isn't very large, so you can enjoy it without much effort. Following the main trail, you can reach all of the following sites if you're interested: Tuxi Square: This is a gathering place for the Tujia people to worship ancestors and celebrate the harvest festival. Tuwang Bridge: This bridge offers panoramic views of the ancient city's stilt buildings, located on both sides of the river. Yuyang Palace: Also known as Tuxi Palace, it's located next to the waterfall and has now been converted into a hotel. It overlooks the waterfall and the surrounding cliffs. The teahouse and viewing platforms inside are ideal photo spots, offering a bird's-eye view of the cascading eaves of Tuwang Palace. Waterfall Viewpoint: This offers panoramic views of the ancient city of Furong. Waterfall Furong: This waterfall, over 60 meters (197 feet) high, can be seen from afar, up close, and even from behind. A stone path allows visitors to walk to the back of the waterfall for some great photos. Uli Slate Street: This winding street runs through the ancient town, lined with shops selling traditional food and traditional buildings. It ends at the Furong Wharf and the town gate. The town is beautiful, but most of the buildings are rundown and out of order. Several observation decks are closed. The cafe overlooking the waterfall is closed. Plan on three leisurely hours for the walk (there's not much else to do there). #furong #furong #hibiscuscity
