Tamansari, which means beautiful garden, was originally a garden or palace garden of the Yogyakarta Palace. This complex was built in stages during the time of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I. Construction began in 1758 AD, marked by the candra sengkala "Catur Naga Rasa Tunggal" which refers to 1684 Java. Sengkalan which can be interpreted as "four dragons of one taste" can be found at the Gapura Panggung. Important parts of the building complex were completed in 1765 AD, marked by candra sengkala "Lajering Sekar Sinesep Peksi" which refers to 1691 Java. Sengkalan which means "flowers sucked by birds" can be found in Gapura Agung and ornaments on several walls of the building. Tamansari has an area of ​​more than 10 hectares with 57 buildings in it. The buildings are in the form of buildings, bathing pools, suspension bridges, water canals, artificial lakes, artificial islands, mosques, and underground passages. The park is nicknamed Water Kasteel because of the pools and water elements that surround it. Also known as The Fragrant Garden because of the fragrant trees and flowers planted in the gardens around the building. Tamansari's design was based on the idea of ​​Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, while the technical drawing was done by a Portuguese national who allegedly came from the Gowa region, Sulawesi. This Portuguese architect is known as Demang Tegis, a name that most likely derives from his nationality.
