Zijing Pass of the Inner Three Passes of the Great Wall

The Zijing Pass of the Great Wall is located on Zijing Ridge in Zijingguan Town, Yi County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, 45 kilometers southwest of Yi County. It was first built during the Warring States period and was called Shanggu Pass during the Qin and Han dynasties, Wuruan Pass during the Eastern Han dynasty, Jinpo Pass during the Song and Jin dynasties, and Zijing Pass after the Yuan dynasty. It is collectively known as the Inner Three Passes along with Juyong Pass and Daoma Pass. Located at the seventh pass of the 'Eight Passes of Taihang,' Puyin Pass, it has historically been a crucial traffic hub for entering and exiting the Taihang Mountains. It is ranked as the fourth of the 'Nine Passes Under Heaven' and has always been a strategic military location. In ancient times, Zijing Pass was a stone city with nine gates and nine passes. To the east of the city is Wanren Mountain, to the west is Rhinoceros Mountain, to the north is Juma River, and to the south is Loess Ridge, making it known as the 'First Mighty Pass South of the Capital.' The existing Great Wall at Zijing Pass has 12,000 meters of wall and three gates, mostly built during the Ming dynasty. The stone plaque above the gate is inscribed with 'Zijing Pass.' Located between Juyong and Daoma Passes, it is one of the important passes of the Inner Great Wall. On November 20, 1996, Zijing Pass of the Great Wall was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as part of the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
