Construction began in 1971, was partially completed in the 1980s, resumed construction in 2002, and was completed in 2009. The Grand Staircase is composed of multiple steps, connecting the lower and upper parts of the city. The vertical drop is about 118 meters. The entire building is 302 meters wide, with a total of 572 steps. The stairs are composed of multiple terraces, each terrace is decorated with fountains, flower beds, sculptures and other decorations. The top is easily reached from the bottom via a series of escalators in the centre. The highest platform at the top overlooks the entire city of Yerevan. Very spectacular.
